I love you Prue! Thank you for being so open and sharing! It brings tears to my eyes. As a late diagnosed autistic woman (born in Melbourne as well, but, I couldn't really handle city life) I am very grateful for other autistic people sharing parts of their journey. I am trying to figure out how to leave the house in a way that isn't overwhelming and leading to burn out. You are helping me figure this out! I will be in Melbourne in February as my (also Autistic) 18 yr old son is moving there. I wish I could meet you! Or find out about autistic people friendly places to visit down there.

Thank you. This really gave me hope that autistic people like me can find employment and fulfilment in careers even across different fields.

Photophobia, offices with fluorescent lighting and jerk colleagues are things I’m all too familiar with. I can highly recommend FL-41 tinted glasses, though they’re yet to make much of a dent in Australia, so I ordered from the US. Closing the blinds wouldn’t solve my problem, natural light is a great thing.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fought back and been in tears when I hear the judgement. We can’t get tired. We gotta keep advocating. I am so grateful for this campaign.

I've been seeing these adds pop up on tv recently (duh it's only been out a week) and all I can say is keep it up they're really good at showing some of the issues that many people face.

This ads on tv are very lovely to see And bring awareness to people with autism, thank you for putting this on Aussie tv

This doesn't make sense, the idea is to 'change your reactions' yet the two officer workers in the beginning seem to be unaware the other girl has autism, as why else would they assume she's hungover? Is the aim of this campaign to get everyone to primarily assume everyone acting a little weird is autistic?

Thank you thank you thank you for these commercials and for playing them during prime time. Such a simple message which hopefully helps so many people such as ourselves in everyday situations. Keep up the “amazing” work guys

I work in a large retail store that sells toys but also has a party goods section so I often see and hear children that cry when they can’t get the toy they want. As a father with a 6 year old who is autistic I can notice when a child is upset when they are cry and when they are scared and are not able to deal with the surrounding environment. I often see others judge the parents and child. Instead I offer to be of assistance and often will offer a free balloon which most of the time will take the child to a calm space (and often the parents) as they can focus on one thing rather than being over whelmed. I hope this ad helps some people get a different perspective on families who live with Autism. Peace ✌️

The snapshot is all very lovely and positive and I applaud the individuals who shared their story. I am disappointed that Amaze were not proactive enough to showcase the other side of autism - the challenges, stress, exhaustion and heartache. Fiona Sharkie, when you ask people to share their "voice" you are excluding non verbal children like my daughter. While I respect that Autism is something to be celebrated for those who are high functioning, and I'm all for celebrating diversity, Amaze have not showcased a diverse range of people with Autism. This is a missed opportunity to inform the community. There is a side to autism that is awful for both my daughter and our family and this project does nothing to showcase that.

I love your analogy to the Mac vs PC. :) I'd like to think we all just have a varied 'processor chip' some more finely tuned in our areas of excellence.

Not only is this disrespectful to the children as someone else mentioned, as they could be identified from this, it's also a part of a troubling and false narrative. She says she wants to have a meltdown too, but the reality is that meltdowns are not voluntary. What she's doing when she says that is implying they are like a tantrum. Because this is such a common and harmful misunderstanding, that makes this deeply problematic. We have enough problems getting appropriate supports because people think autie kids can just choose to be different, or that they are just having a tantrum to get their own way etc. Parents that day this sort of thing trivialise that experience and harm the outcomes for everyone. This also plays into the widely disliked and distasteful narrative about autie kids being a burden on their families, being a horrible thing that happens to the parent. This is not a story about autism, this is a story about a parent not understanding autism. That happens, and parents need support, but this message hurts autie people, and by proxy hurts those parents when their children have poor outcomes, are mistreated, or denied help and understanding, which the parents then need to spend far, far more effort to fight. Helping auties helps parents. This helps no one.

This video is disturbing to me, but not for the intended reason. You see, I am autistic. I had these meltdowns as a child. This video is exposing something that is very humiliating for us on the spectrum, and is done without their consent. Moreover, the focus of this is how hard it is for the family. Barely a mention of how hard it is for the kids. The family has needs, true. But what you're enduring is nothing compared to the kids who have to live in a world surrounded by people who largely just endure them.

For the first 15 years Zak needed to be held down and his hair cut with the clippers. It took years of practice for us to get to this!! The next step in for him to sit in a 'big chair' for the next hair cut. So proud of his achievement :-)
