Im doing this swap myself and i believe i have just about everything ready but i have a few questions on wiring and ecu compatbility is there somewhere i can dm you my im doing m52 to m54 in my 97 and my adapter harness has no obd2 plug and i have a 325i ecu that i think would need remapped
Hi mate. Dm me on instagram or Facebook if you like, GaragE36_uk on insta and GaragE36 on Facebook
Nice work iv👍 it's coming along nicely
Thanks trims. Yes just some small bits and pieces to finish
@@GaragE36uk 👍
Some set up on that , I’ve seen those fuel rails do you know what the benefit over a standard one is or are they for dress up purposes ?
Yes, decent setup mate.. the fuel rails come with AN outlets so you can connect lines via AN fuel line connections. Also, there's no fuel pressure regulator attached like the standard rail. No real performance gain, tho.. but yet they also look cool 😆
@@GaragE36uk nice one mine is leaking somewhere there I was thinking about replacing with one of those nuke ones , it also does look cool haha
😍nice
Yes very nice
Big boost 👌
A great step forward with the unit dude. Let me know if you want a new sign etc 👌
Thank you mate. Appreciate it.
Garage is looking good iv fair play 👍 coming along nicely 👌🏼
Thank you Trims.

Getting there anyway
@GaragE36uk yeah it will take time iv but it's looking good 👍
Yes indeed, everything takes time. Nearly there tho, not much left.
Now that i see the Powerflex bushings... can you tell me if the metal washer that comes with the diff bushings goes on the bottom (replacing the OEM one) or goes on top in order to make the bushing sit flat on the subrame?
Hi mate, I am not entirely sure, I would need to look at a set to confirm. We use a variety of bushes in the workshop.
My vanos won't come out and I've been pulling and every bolt has been takin out. I gave up because I don't trust myself breaking anything
@@painful1342 is it just stuck with sealant? If all bolts are removed and the little torque bolts inside then it should just pull off.
Nice one looks like a lot more space for yee now , clean design with the dark walls too best of luck 🍻
@adkenzo thanks mate and yes much better space than the last place mate.

ENGINE COVERS PLEASE 😂
I didn't do this one lol. I was just fixing some issues on it..
Just did mine this weekend, although I was doing oil filter housing seal too which made access loads easier without removing the manifold, but easy enough with not removing teh manifold. Cheers for the guide
Yes removing the oil filter housing will give you some extra access. Thanks for watching, glad it helped
Horsepower and torque ????
Not been on a dyno yet. Built the engine and haven't done anything with it since. Maybe 250bhp. I will get it finished and on dyno soon
Nice review video iv👍
Thanks trims. Need to get back into making some videos, finding it hard.
I'd say so iv 👍
hello my friend I have seen a lot of videos from other mechanic technical and you are the best, thank you and a lot of greatings from Athens Greece
Ah thank you for the comment. Really appreciate your kind words. Nice to have you here.
Which ECU u running ??
Not sure, standalone tho
Think it might have been vems maybe or ecu master, was a few years ago. Would need to check with owner.
Hi. Hello from Argentina. Your job is just awesome. Congrats for your knowledge. I’m an beginner into e36 issues and I have started a project into a e36 1993 no EWS no airbags and certainly… No engine… and I decided to install an M20 engine and automatic transmission into the e36 which is originally automatic. I see your oil pan is in front and is very good explanation for my project. I have almost same front oil pan . Please let me know your thoughts about my project . Thank you in advance.
@PieroIvanMontemaggioreschreibe thank you for the kind comments, really appreciate it. Your fitting an m20 from an e30 into an e36?
@@GaragE36uk Hi . I appreciate how you let us see in detail your work. Is a very detailed and accurate description for people like me who is a beginner into this issues. Indeed I have an M20B20 engine and automatic transmission (originally from an e12 1981 520 bmw) and I have an e36 1993 originally automatic no EWS no airbags is a very basically car which has no engine and transmission. Indeed I have plans to install the M20B20 engine and the automatic transmission. I know is a low horse power engine but certainly is all I have . The prices of bmw engines here in Argentina are just impossible to afford. Anyways brother I appreciate your response to my message. God bless you all there .
@PieroIvanMontemaggioreschreibe ah I understand mate, you just have to work with what you got. M2b20 engine is a good engine, just underpowered as you say. But it would be different, not sure I ever seen any e36 with m20 engine fitted.. Goodluck with the build, if you need any advise or help just ask
@@GaragE36uk brother. I will let you know about it . Otherwise thank you for your help and all the best for you and all your projects .Indeed is a low horsepower engine but is for an easy and smooth usage . thank you for your attention. You welcome here . God bless you all i the land of Saint George.
Nice 👌🏼

I play on doing this to a 318i are there motor mounts for that and do you use the e46 5 speed?
I use standard e36 rubber mounts with e36 323 or 328 m52 engine mount arms, and I use the e36 gearbox
Hi mate, may I know where to get those adaptor, I have a spare m54 engine and a spare e36 car .
@Leelong_John hi mate. I think that was either from hack engineering for about £350, I don't use them anymore, I make my own now, we sell them for £255 posted within UK.
Nice 👍
How long did that cheap febi stuff last before you had new air leaks?
Have fitted lots of febi kits with no issues..
How did these hold up, much body roll with these
Really good ride mate. I'll do a review video soon, been very busy with moving units the last month or so.
Are they as good as the BC? Too stiff with the 9 and 11 front and rear spring rates?
Ok mate, looking get these on my mx5 you seem be only uk channel reviewing these
Does this work on my flux capacitor?
@stewartcolley1345 you could try it, but only at 10.04pm on a Saturday night..
Good evening, I also have an e36 sedan with an M52TUB20 engine. I've been going everywhere for 4 years, no problems. I rebuilt it by myself. I'm a motorcycle mechanic, but I love BMWs and I spent a lot of effort and money. factory genuine....be well stay healthy we are watching you do nice things keep going only bmw

Thanks for watching. And yes you could if you wanted.
VANOS error. Low power and eventually stalling at junctions.
@@gbrobynable you have them symptoms?
Would this be similar to an e60.
Yes if the e60 is fitted with the m54 engine

Well done boys, onwards and upwards 👏👏👏

How about traction control? Is it possible to get it fully working, or just abs is possible? Thank you!
Traction control, I'm not sure, it's done via the wheel speed sensors on the ms43 ecus from the 330, so maybe by fitting all that from the e46 you could get it to work..
I have a 316i e36 m43... I wanna put a 2.5 m54... My question is about the electrical wiring... What do i need to change apart from the engine loom
You will either need an adapter loom of make one, the m54 loom does not plug into the e36 harness
Do you mind explaining how you got your gauge cluster to display coolant temp? I know the wiring harness adapter comes with an e36 temp sensor plug but do you simply use that and leave the m54 sensor unplugged?
I don't use them looms anymore mate. They are not the best. I make my own and fit a 4 pin temp sensor in place of the m54 one.. that way it can be wired correctly to ecu and dash.
Hi. Great series of videos! Is the M54 crank a straight fit into the M50 block? And do you use the M54 rods with M50 pistons?
Thank you mate, appreciate the comment. Crank is straight fit, just need to unbolt the crank signal pick from the crank. I used m54 rods and m54 pistons
@GaragE36uk Awesome, thank you for the reply man, really appreciate it! Look forward to upgrading to this... Keep up the great content! New subscriber 👌😎

@beqaoniani1579 never been on a dyno yet, estimated maybe 250bhp
Can i put a 330i e46 engine in a e36 318i ???Without modifying the car ?
Yes, there is no modification to the chassis needed. You need other parts tho
That e36 was a 320i ?
No 328

yo man what cause the crank no start towards the end of the video, currently having that same problem. You fixed it but didn’t mention what caused it.
Hi mate. Can't remember 100% but think it was just the battery junction box wasn't connected correctly.. If you wanted to drop me a message on Instagram I'll see if I can help you out

airbox filter from m40? Thanks a lot!
Not 100% sure as it was a while ago, but I had both airbox's, can't remember if I used the top half of one and bottom of the other, for some reason that's in my head.
M54 weak af
We can't all like the same things I suppose.
what about shift linkage? e30 m40 or e36 m42 i will choose? i took transsmision from e36 m42 thank you again!
Hi. We used the m40 transmission and gearlinkage set up. Not sure when using the m42 transmission
thanks , I finally installed it today everything went perfectly! what about mount intake because with M40 ENGINE mount doesn't install it. Where did you find a mount for intake? Many thanks in advance!
What did you end up doing fuel-wise? did you keep the e36 fuel filter? Or use an e46 fuel filter?
You use the m54 filter as that has the pressure regulator there. Just run the feed to the fuel. The m54 doesn't have any return from the rail. The return is sorted via the pressure regulator on the filter. When you fit the m54 filter, you will see that you need to cut down the steal fuel return line to attach it to the return part of the filter. Hope that makes sense.
