A Simple Odyssey
United States
Registrace 29. 09. 2012
The videos on this channel are a way to chronicle my adventures throughout Nevada, California, and beyond. There'll be camping, hiking, and whatever else crosses my path. I'm not a bushcrafter, nor am I an expert on the outdoors. I'm simply a guy that's tired of wasting away his life by sitting in a recliner watching the world go by. I intend to reach back twenty years and find that spark that seems to have been lost. I can't change the past, but I can shape the future.

This once thriving business now sits abandoned. Enjoy the tour.

This wide spot in the road once carried a population of around 400. It served as a refuge from the heat and the arduous journey through the vast Nevada desert. Now it stands in ruins for tourists to wander through and take pictures. I hope you enjoy the tour.

The history of Warm Springs goes back to 1866 when it served as a stopover for stagecoaches. Over time it evolved into comfortable stopover for a more recent traveler. As far as I can tell, it's demise came sometime in the 1970's.

My grandmother was born in Silver City Nevada in 1894
I’ll never be there myself, but love to see it.
Really enjoying the videos.
Thank you.
Would be interesting to hear some stats on the towns you’re visiting. (Population, average temp., crime, main business, cost of homes). Well done!! You have the perfect voice and cadence (reminds me of the Waltons), just need a better camera.
Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for watching.
Pyramid lake IS an ancient lake
Route 447 north of Nixon heading towards the Black Rock desert where burning Man is held has been of interest to me over the past several years as well. I am of the opinion that the organized looking " circles and scalloped regular structures". of tufa are influenced by blue green algae or other similar biological activity during formation. Think of the looks of the underwater "dark smokers" , geological Vents under the ocean that have regular formations from bioactivities. Lake Lahontin covered this entire area all the way to salt lake City up to approximately 13,000 years ago or so. Though not necessarily supported by the intellagence of somebody that knows what they're talking about, in my research on this area, the following speculation is added for your consideration: 😮 The Pliestocene was the prior age before the one we are in now, which ended approximately 11 ,000 to 12,000 years ago. Coincident with that era, was the rise of the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada is formed by a broken- off piece of the North American plate caused by the rapid subduction of the Farallon plate over the last million and a half years or so. The unusual forces that resulted in this huge uplift cracked off a "chunk" of the N.A. plate, resulting in a very steep eastern "face"of the imoutain range. Because the Pluestocene was so much wetter and so much colder than currently, the Eastern slope of the broken section of the internal portion exposed of the North American plate was subject to rapid erosion caused by glaciers and water flow . This resulted in many subterranean flows of water in a downward direction (of course,) which generated many of the springs which arose underneath Lake Lahontan, which gave rise to the tufa towers. It is interesting to note, and was a surprise to me to find out, that calcium carbonate is much more soluble in cold water than warm water. Therefore, the under ground springs which rose up from the floor of Lake Lahontan consisted of very cold water saturated with with calcium carbonate which had been collected by the grinding glaciers and water flow down the eastern slope mentioned above, which would surface under the water, in warmer water, and precipitate calcium carbonate in the form of the tuffa towers that's the subject of this thread. Most tufa 30:53 of significant volume was collected over periods of time measured in thousands, tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of years. Slowly. 😅 I did not know that this note was going to turn out to be as long as it is. My study of this situation a rose during a process which I have Pursued while attempting to derive a method to effect direct air capture of carbon dioxide, more of which information can be found at www earththrive.net. The accumulated alkaline materials located beneath the playas of Northern Nevada constitute enough material to entrap chemically all of the carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere , for geological periods of time. Being merely a safety engineer, I can garner no attention to the premise. Thank you for jogging my memory in regard to this matter. Those are definitely unique formations, and demonstrative of the fact that we live in a wonderful world indeed. We are all in this togerher...❤
I used to hunt Deer on McDonald Peak, east of Termo, in the early and mid 70’s…my buddies and I would stop in for a beer or two during our trip to gas the jeeps and trucks…I do remember that the general store had a beer-wine bar, and I believe it had gas pumps as well….inside the bar there was a collection of various live rifle and pistol shells on a shelf behind the bar, and there were maybe 1/2 dozen mounted deer heads…deer taken on McDonald Peak and the surrounding mountains…one of them was later measured, then entered in the Boone and Crockett Record Book as a trophy class mule deer
The original Train Depot. Was burned down several years ago.
Bonanza was filmed here.
I grew up in Gabbs. Small town living is something else. Gabbs kids were cut from a different cloth. Btw, you missed the other side of town.
Love Dayton. First capital of Nevada...
I wanna move there
My G.G.G. grandfather built the original Washington hotel (Hessel Buisman) his daughter & son in law G.G. grandparents took it over, then Great grandparents had it....haven't been there in about 20 years. Thanks for sharing
I enjoy reading personal stories such as yours. Those stories add a layer to the video. Thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 🤠👍
My favorite place in Reno.
It is a nice place to visit. Thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Love the history and feel of these old west towns!
So do I. Thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Have you ever been to Bodie? I love that ghost town but you have to be careful you don't drive over the mountain ledge driving up there. Makes me homesick seeing Daytin again. Thank you!🎉
I did visit Bodie, however, no video. It was a long time ago. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
My house was built in 1900…. You passed it 2 xs but didn’t give a shout out. 😊
I sincerely apologize. 🤠. I hope you enjoyed the video, as well as the cameo appearance of your home, and thank you for watching. 🤠👍
That's my town, I 💜 it here, for a small lil town there is a lot of events for the whole town like the county fair, the high Sierra music festival, Holiday events etc. on top of all the mountain nature activities, the people are nicer, locals know each other & when we see each other in town (even people we don't know) we actually wave & talk to each other, the local mom n pop shops are friendly, there is very low crime here, I'm originally from the Bay area (about 20 years ago) but I will never go back to live there....this town/mountain & nature living will change ya....the main downside is the fires all around!!!! Other than that please come visit, we love visitors!!!! 😊💜🏞️🌲🦅🐻🐺🦊🦝🦨🐿️🦉🦅
Thank you for all of that. I'm sure some viewers will find it useful. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks again for watching. 🤠👍
Welcome to Silver Springs. Every need a tour I'b be happy to show you around.
Thank you. I'll keep your offer in mind. I hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
It was a restaurant back in the 70 s the small garage was Bills Transmission and the small house was an old miner's
Thanks for the info. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
Old, but caught glimpse of newer finished walls inside.
Do you know the asking price on this piece of property?
No, I don't. If you're interested, call the phone number on the sign. Anyway, thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Lots of good memories here..the last to live in the house were named Jim Nelson and his wife Nancy..poker nights once a week.😎👊🏻
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Now, you've provided a personal memory to this property. Thank you for watching.
@@eagleteam6 back in the late seventies the other building was a Vasque restaurant..best food in the area..I hope someone does this property right..thanks for sharing.
There's a "Trash or Treasure" sign on the property, possibly the name of a thrift store? This might explain why they had so many of those hand bags. The restaurant/store was built in 1949 and the house was built in 1951.
Thank you for the info. That would make sense for all of those plastic handbags. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
I was a driver as well going up and down that road at least two or three times a week. Did you ever stop in Mina? and explored the old train depot they had there?
Mina is the list. I'm going to postpone it until cooler weather. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
My guess, I've been there a number of times. Navy, before the Berlin wall came down. 1980s' up to about 1998. Aviation Weapons training
Of you keep going up 49 check out camptonville. Then keep going north through winding canyons. Pretty drive. Then you will run into good years bar. Then downieville. Nice drive
I'll have to drive that way again. Thanks for the info. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
That brick makes it nice and solid!
Another wonderful video, thanks so much! I was going to drive here but don't need to. Hope you're well
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It is a neat place. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment. Have a great day.
Those Joshua trees are BEAUTIFUL, and priceless.
I enjoyed the entire property. Someone should buy it and do something with it. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment.
Where abouts are they in the timeline? Just curious what they look like.
they look like cacti. They are SUPER expensive to buy. They are like palms but with smaller tops. Google them.
Hello nice looking around I found some info looks like this place might have been called Green wave sports bar at one time some people might call it a Roadhouse =Local bar and dance place unsure what year most likely in the last 20 years ?Unsure how long it was there 🇺🇸thank you for the explore
Thank you for the info. I'm sure it's had many uses over the years. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Thank you my friend. i enjoyed the video. Regards from Ody Slim
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the comment and thank you for watching. Have a good day.
Is anybody here?
I don't understand your comment. Are you referring to Leetville? Anyway, thank you for watching.
This is one of those times that we wish we had some dollars to invest into a place like this. We really enjoyed visiting Leetville Junction. We like those cinderblocks. It reminded me of my grandparents who had a small home made with them. Looked really nice. Thanks so much for the tour. Shelley and Max
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Nevada is peppered with places like this. When I find them, I'll document them. Thank you for watching: I do appreciate it.
That church with the swing set looked like it was maybe a schoolhouse, I could be wrong lol, but my family is from small town South Dakota so I’ve seen some of the old abandoned schoolhouses and that’s what it looked like to me! Awesome explore as always 😀
Thank you for the information. I always appreciate whatever insight I can get from my viewers. Whether it's personal stories or history, it's appreciated. Thank you for watching.
You find the coolest places! I mentioned on one of your other videos that my partner and I looking to move to Nevada, and you’ve really got me itching to get out there and check some of these places out! (And of course drag him along with me 😆) though I am deathly terrified of a certain creature with more than 7 legs but less than 9 😬😬
I highly recommend that you and your partner visit Nevada. When you do, try to see more than Lake Tahoe, or Las Vegas. Nevada is a beautiful and unique place. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching. 🤠👍
Funny that I stumbled upon this. I was the fire chief in Sierra City. I also saw the one you did in Chilcoot. I grew up in that town. My father was the fire chief there, not sure if you noticed the monument outside of the fire hall that was made for him. Good job, I'll continue to look for your simple odyssey's. Take care and be safe.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I always enjoy reading personal stories about the areas I've visited. Thank you for sharing your story. Have a good evening.
Very nice, glad you made to my town. The ice box in front of the Red Moose Cafe is still intact, this was before the bear damaged it so I kinda know what day you visited, it was while I was at work for 2.5 days. The Red Moose is a good place to eat. They also have rooms above they rent which are a good deal, and it's really nice upstairs. Steve & Jenny are my neighbors. It's not usually vacant like that, you hit it at an odd time. Usually there are people walking around. We moved there due to the gorgeous view and rivers, and it's high enough in elevation which helps my husband breathe better. There is a great view of the Buttes from downtown. Thanks so much for this video :)
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It is a beautiful area. Thank you for watching.
I haven't been there in a long time. I need to go back.
Nice area looks like that was a logging town. But i heard there are a bout 100 Gold mines up in those hills and a 30 stamp mill at one time and that there are tours you can take of some mine operation when the building are open one could spend weeks exploring thank you for the walking tour p.s. and there is a cemetery that started in rhe 1850's up the hill from main road 🇺🇸🤔
Thanks for the info...I like it when a viewer adds a little history to the video. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
Like maybe a greener version of Austin, NV?
@@brookskimball48 🤣👍
What a great place to visit! Always love the map.😄 Oh, would we ever love to buy that place for sale. If only! And that park would be a cool place for a picnic. You mentioned using GPS. We can tell you from experience that it does not always play out the way it should. We put a destination in and it took 2 hours and we ended up in the very town we started in.😁 We sure enjoy these tours. Thanks so much. Have a good day our friend. Shelley and Max
It's definitely a beautiful area. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'll keep providing these video tours for as long as I can. Have a good day.
