Dublin piper and pipe-maker Leo Rowsome plays a rousing set of marches: - The Irish Emigrant / Wearing of the Green / the Irish Rover / the Minstrel Boy. Rowsome was one of the most talented musicians to ever emerge from Ireland. He had a prolific recording career, was an influential teacher, and was Ireland's leading pipe-maker for many years when the craft had almost died out. Leo's style of ...

Due to technical problems on the night I did not manage to record the talk, so I re-recorded a more detailed version today. The talk discusses the Irish passage-grave builders, believed to have arrived in the north-west of Ireland by aroun...

Seamless. Smooth. Effortless. Powerful. Is the CD available still I wonder?
Played these 3 tunes together in many sessions ...
The Blackberry Blossom was famously recorded in New York by Sligo fiddler James Morrison.Coleman Morrison and Killoran are all laid to rest in the old St Raymond cemetry the Bronx New York as is the great piper Patrick Touhey
He was the greatest
Trying to learn this on recorder.
Played at a nice tempo, unlike the ridiculous breakneck speed of some players today
Ok boomer
Absolutely spot on
agree totally it doesn't sound rushed! I suspect there's more magic than just tempo drop --> The cadence is roughly 105 BPM which isn't a huge pile off he faster-played recordings which are typically up on 115-120 BPM. My guess -- colemans phrasing throughout is masterful; there's no notable slurring or dilations --> every note sounds crisp and clear, this in essence makes it feel non rushed. The soft guitar baseline changes up the chord every ~4 beats, so this also probably a big help (in contrast to piano accompaniment)
Lovely music! This takes me back to the time I first met Dolores Keane - when she'd recently moved to London and would play the flute at sessions in the Norfolk Arms on the Holloway Road.
Máirtín I used to meet in O'Donoghue's, Dublin...Ní fheicimíd a leithéad arís.
Anyone know when this was recorded? I have met Dolores Keane and she is one of my favorite singers.
The album, There Was a Maid came out in 1978.
