    Thanks are in order to the YT algo for, er, introducing us. A terrific work, full of lyricism and hot licks - worth studying, and stealing from (bassist)! Never saw that time sig before, for the beginning allegretto - 10/16. And chapeau to Ms. Tokuno - that piano part's a bear! By the way, what make of violin is that? Always like to know. And sorry, what's "DMA"?

      Hi! Isn’t this a hidden gem?! The violin is an old Italian, unfortunately without a label I don’t know for sure who made it. DMA stands for “Doctoral of Musical Arts,” equivalent to PhD but since it’s a performing degree.

    • @bezuglich
      @bezuglich Před 2 lety

      @@Violinjeanius I thought "DMA" might be the school - Dubuque Music Academy LOL. Wow a nameless violin! I once played an Amati - for a minute - when I worked at the Library of Congress. And they had/have the four Strads on display in a case. Those all had labels! It's great you're knee-deep in this type of repertoire and not the warhorses (Bach excepted). Maybe try Lutoslowski next ("Subito")?

    The DNA is clearly Debussynian and ipso facto with that touch of Impressionism anyone can fairly configure. The end of the 1st. movement is (almost) brilliant. Piano´s performance in 2nd. movement is remarkable - violin cedes slowly path to piano. Unexpected but IL FALLAIT, bien sur. Thank you.

    The piece was played with passion. You can feel the intensity and emotion in it. The two of you played in harmony, almost becoming one. I can hear your violins crying. I hear the violins being confused. In all the sadness they feel, there is still a small portion of happiness. What an amazing performance.

    Bravo, both of you! It's the first time I have actually enjoyed listening to a performance of this piece. I bought the music at a yard sale in the Music Academy of the West in the summer of 1982, together with the piano reduction of the Berg violin concerto. I later faound out that professor Jerome Lowenthal had bought the exact same scores at that sale (a bit of trivia). You make sense of this sonata and manage to keep the interest all the way through, which is not easy to do in this particular work.
