Some short road test to check my 88' Wartburg 353S's speedo accuracy: at 30 kmph it shows about 2-3 km/h too much, then the error gets smaller and smaller along with rising velocity. 100kmph visible at 100.8. 131 kmph@131. Prędkość maksymalna mojego Wartburga 353S zweryfikowana za pomocą GPS.
Come on, a bit more is possible*! 😂 *only with perfect fuel, copper-core sparkplugs, clean airfilter and perfect carburetor and ignition timing settings. 🤭
Effectively I had an issue with spark timing on one cylinder. After a small correction (and still, 20 000 km after I touched the ignition), there is a steady 140 km/h on flat... but the speedometer accuracy got ruined ;).
@@jann353w - defect of the flexible shaft from the transmission to the spedo? - lose connection of the flexible shaft to the spedo or transmission? - spedo defect? Do you have electronic or mechanical ignition? How did you adjust it? Which carburetor is in this Wartburg? BVV 40 mm or Jikov?

Sadly China dictates the end of use of all combustion cars worldwide. Chinas boss Darth Xi told all politicians that they wont do any business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic, airplanes or combustion based industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China to 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China...:-(((

Beautiful car. Definitely not an Autobahn car, but as a city car it's allright. One thing I know for a fact, if it's not good for speed, it's good for hauling heavy stuff.
It is going, allright, but I don't think the engine is feeling too good...
Good question actually. There is high engine speed, so already rather lower torque (worse volumetric efficiency) and smaller energy release rate per CAD. Thus, the pressure-related forces are fine, centrifugal forces should be also ok. The biggest issue are the rollers and needle bearings, and actually I am still waiting for them to give up :). Did only 10 000 km since I made this movie. After increasing the compression ration and (above all) good ignition adjustment, the car reaches 140 km/h.
Szkoda że nie montowali tam jakiegoś silnika na wzór Fordowskiego V4 1,7 jak to miało miejsce w Saab-ie 96. Masz nadal tego Warczyburga?
Mam. Jeździ odrobinę lepiej niż wtedy. Zapłon był fatalnie wyregulowany na ostatnim cylindrze.
The Saab 96 with Ford V4 1.5 is only slightly faster at 145 km/h.
Fabryka? Czy po modach? I czy da radę pojechać tym w trasę? I jak ze spalaniem "na codzień"?
Fabryka, na dodatek ze źle ustawionym zapłonem. Po poprawce jest kilka km/h szybszy. Spalanie na codzień między 8 a 9 litrów, w sumie to jakbym nie jechał wychodzi podobnie, ale mam dość ciężką nogę. W trasę da pojechać, ale głośno, brakuje piątego biegu i istnieje niewielkie ryzyko, że silnik się zatrze i stanie, bo łożyska na wale korbowym są takie, jakie wsadzono w fabryce. W bardzo długie trasy jeszcze nie jeżdżę, ale parę razy zrobiłem 400-500 km jednego dnia i było to zaskakująco mało męczące .
jann353w dziękuję za odpowiedź. Mnie od czasu do czasu będzie czekać trasa około 650km, więc mam nadzieję, że się będzie dało to wygodnie objechać.
To że jest głośno dla mnie to będzie zaleta słuchać bez przerwy 3 cylindrowego dwusuwa
mój dziadek takim sprzętem objechał sporo świata: grecja, jugosławia, turcja, co prawda nowym, którego sam złożył, ale się dało; w demoludach samochód to i tak był luksus, nikt nie wybrzydzał jak dzisiaj, że głośno, że klimy nie ma.. mało kto miał coś na czterech kołach z zachodu, ale chęć zobaczenia świata była większa niż wady posiadanego wozu.

Tényleg mentek ennyit a Wartburgok,még 140-et is,ha precízen be volt állítva a gyújtás és persze jó állapotú motorral. De 90 fölött hülyeség hajtani,zabál nagyon.

Factory max speed is 134 km/h. And about Marcus. If you step on the gas and then lift your foot from the gas, that actually oils the engine, if I'm right.
MegaZsolti huzamosabban egy gaz álláson és fordulaton mész bizonyos helyeken állandósul a keverék áramlás máshol kevésbé azzal hogy néha elveszed a gázt majd újra adsz megzavarod ezt az állandósult áramlást javítva a kenést elvileg.

Dear Marcus, I understand German well, however still make some misteks when I write, so I hope it's fine if I answer you in English. I saw some two strokes on the test bench. And test documented test results of many others. Long hours with Vollgas don't really impress them when you have enough oil in petrol. Give me one evidence for what you wrote, really. Because fuel consumption, engine work demanded to keep average speed and transmission loads aren't lower in the case you described.
Keine Ahnung zum fahren! Einmal gas dann wieder gas weg! Entweder bleibt man auf gas oder nicht das ist nicht gut für den Motor!
@keithwwalker - no, not at all, it's a combined indicator for fuel, engine temp. and current fuel economy (it measures the fuel flow to the carburator), introduced in 1984 in all Wartburgs.
