I like your videos I would like to know what is the weight of your trailer and what do you pull it with? I am thinking about buying a 2018 airstream Bambi I have a Toyota Tacoma and I can pull 6000 pounds I was wondering how much does your base camp airstream weigh and what are you pulling it with? Thanks so much keep up the good work, my name is Miguel. I’m from Cape Coral Florida.
@@mojimx1116 thanks Miguel. My Basecamp weighs about 4000 pounds with all the gear and everything in it. I pull it with a BMW X5 it has a towing capacity of 7200 pounds. And it does just fine. Excellent. I’ll have a video coming up on that shortly. Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words.
You didn't show the inside. We saw a couple this summer, no thank you!
Very fair comparison... If a used Base Camp hadn't come along when I was buying in early 2020, I would have bought a SOL Horizon.
@@mikestone9839 Thanks for watching and for the comment. What do you like? Best about your Airstream Basecamp?
@@StreamDreamin I've got a 2019 Basecamp 16X and I'm with you on the black out curtains... I do sometimes want to sleep during the day and they work great. I've taken it into some tight spots that other trailers would not have gone without damage done to them. I love the Truma Combi furnace / hot water heater. The fact that you can run it on electric without water is great. Very versatile. The back hatch is convenient, I've used it for hauling my bike before I added a hitch reciever and a bike rack. The other thing I like is the AC unit 9600 BTU unit will work with a 2000 or 2200 watt generator without an easystart. I did not like the solar charger they had in it, so I replaced it and then later on installed a couple of Battleborn 100AH heated batteries. Because of the size of the batteries I gave up some storage space under the sink area for the batteries and a 2200 WATT inverter. I really like the counter space of the kitchen area. To help with ventilation at night, I made a screen that fits in the bathroom hatch for the shower head to go outside. Having that open with the screen in place the the main exhaust fan hatch open with out the fan running allows a nice flow of air to come through.
The Sol's climb over bed killled it for us. Hate to admit that the Basecamps utilitarian style was probably the deciding factor: it just feels like camping. The Sol is a great trailer though.
@@scotturner3178 thanks for watching and for the comment. I agree completely.
If you can deal with 20” longer trailer you can get twin 80” beds on the Sol Dusk
I've been looking at the Intech as well because there is a price point( about 10k) difference. But, like you said, the Basecamp is more versatile (mini-toyhauler) and has a better suspension for iffy roads. Still leaning towards the Airstream but I did give the Intech a hard look at the dealer.
@@Bruce-da-Roamer thanks for watching and for the comment. There’s a lot to like about the Intech Sol. The Airstream Basecamp though is in a class by itself.
what about residual water in the pump?
That's a valid question. I reached out to the manufacturer on Thursday--prior to your question posing--but the tech guy hasn't gotten back to me yet. I will follow up with an additional response next week. In the meantime, I did used this method all winter last year without any issues. Yes, it could be a series of happy coincidences. Which is why I reached out to the manufacturer but my sense is the water pump is mounted on a slope which sets it up to drain naturally once the line is clear. More to follow.
I would love to see someone who was towing at least a 32' , 8,000lb TT that has tried an Anderson hitch give a review. Seems like every review of the hitch has been on this mini type campers.
@@tonylinkous7940 I don’t have anything that big. But I know a couple of guys who use the Anderson hitch on their Airstream Classics. And they fit that class you’re talking about. Thanks for watching.
The dometic is a great upgrade. I keep dragging my feet though because I’d really like to upgrade our battery game enough to just put in a drop-in induction. We travel with a portable induction cooktop now and love it when we’re plugged in.
@@TwelveFeetTravels Thanks for watching and for the comment. Stay tuned there’s a lot more to come.
I wonder how that would work in the 16. The sink area is sooo tight in the 16. 🤔
@@OverNoobin the cut out for the Dometic is actually smaller than the cutout for the suburban. It’s easy enough to pull out the suburban and see if you can square the corners up. best of luck. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I’m on my 2nd Anderson WD hitch. Absolutely love the performance of this design. First one was a 2” receiver second one a 2 1/2” receiver. The hookup process is much easier, also set my threads to 4 exposed. 😊

Tape and dope the fitting.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. I'm not looking for a fight, but I don't think that's good advice. The factory install did not use either and prior doing this video I checked with several qualified sources, none of which recommended either. In fact, just the opposite. Here's a synopsis: When using a flared fitting on a copper LP gas line, you should not use pipe dope or silicone tape. Flared fittings create a seal by the mechanical compression of the fitting, which presses the flared end of the copper tubing against the fitting, forming a tight, gas-proof seal. Adding pipe dope or silicone tape could interfere with this sealing process and potentially cause a leak. Just ensure that the flared fitting is clean, properly aligned, and tightened according to the manufacturer's specifications.
My issue is the non-functional bathroom. Too small and you trip because you can’t turn around.
@@Erin-Thor I had that experience with the 16 foot Basecamp. Not so much with the 20 foot Basecamp. Thanks for lunching
@@StreamDreamin - Good to know! Wait, we had lunch? 😳

The rear door is indeed an issue - and the angle doesn’t help. We made adjustments and triple checked to make sure it was fully closed, but still leaked. Nice content and high quality video production as well! I did notice about 3.5 minutes of dead air at the 6:30 mark, however. (There also seemed to be some outtakes in there at 9:17.) Did you install the replacement stove on your own?
Thanks for that! Wow. Not sure how that happened or how to correct it. I'll figure it out. And, yes, I did install the cooktop myself. Should have a video on that shortly. Thanks again.
@@roberttodd8889 thanks again. I was able to edit the video and end it where it should’ve ended. I really appreciate you taking the time to point that out.
I have been researching travel trailers for about a year now in anticipation of purchase, and every single time I see that Suburban stove, it is a red flag. They don't even look decent brand new. I now consider it a red flag for the overall trailer. It may seem silly, but I love to cook as well.
@@VHangout fortunately, it’s a relatively easy fix. Don’t let that stove dissuade you from purchasing and otherwise truly wonderful travel trailer. Instead, make it part of the negotiation. Have the dealer switch it out for you.
Think of how well you could build a cargo trailer conversion for a fraction of the cost with all high-end amentities ! Just a consideration... The airstream is beautiful but it also screams "break into me..." I want to be a slow-profile as possible...
@@StreamDreaminagree!!!
Excellent video pointing out some weak spots on the Basecamp. It’s a bit troubling though that a trailer that is so expensive cuts corners on the stove, faucet and sewer hose carrier. Sometimes I get the feeling the egos at Airstream are over riding what could be a completely awesome product.

Not all Basecamps winterize the same. Please identify what model, what year it is. On mine a 2019 16X requires to drain the Truma Combi of its water, in addition.
That’s a good point. Thanks for taking time to comment. My Basecamp 20X is a 2022 model. The Truma system has a drain lever on the inside and as I recall, it’s a little bit hidden and easily missed. Thanks for watching!
We were so excited when we got our 20x, but after 10 service visits in under 3 years, we gave up. So disappointed, as I had always dreamed of an Airstream. Our expectation of buying quality was not met at all. After about every trip, we had to go back for repairs. No heater volume on our first trip, and it went down from there. Very happy with our 2024 Intech Sol Dusk. Solid built with an aluminum frame, MUCH better features over a BaseCamp and have only had one issue in 6 months. I still love the looks of an Airstream, but I’d rather have quality. I don’t believe Thor can deliver that. Too bad they bought Airstream out.

It is very quiet and stable. I absolutely love this fan.
Thanks for the detailed videos, Very helpful,

What size ac is it?
@@shanwar9844 13,500 BTU
@@StreamDreamin that's pretty good for a honda 2200. How hot was it?
@@shanwar9844 96 degrees outside. Got down to 75 inside before I had to leave and pack it up.
I know you ran it for 2 1/2 hours, but how much propane would you use for say 8 hours of continuous use, roughly? It's really cool that you use the propane rather than the gas, like you said great choice cause you already have it on board and it's less messy than having to refill with gas. I was actually considering the 3200i for possible home emergency use but it's a lot heavier.
@@Bruce-da-Roamer Thanks for watching. I don’t think I used much. Less than 1/4 tank. I’ll do fuel economy test and report the results in another video. I too am curious to know how long a tank will last.
That's a great video. Im in Salt Lake City and have a 16x 2020 and for off-grid camping, it is nice to have the ac.

Great!
Great advice! Have all of those items on our Basecamp as well! Although a different weight distribution hitch set up. Exact fan was latest add and is a must have on the inside.

@@wallstbull1 what hitch system are you using? Thanks
Can you run the 13,500 ac unit in a 20x. With a Honda 2200i generator? No soft start?
You saw my generator in the back! So, I did test it--very briefly. I started the fan on low, then high, then kicked on the AC. It really stressed the generator but the generator did recover. I will do a video on this soon. Thanks for watching.
@@StreamDreamin sounds good, I can’t find a straight answer on size. I have a 3000 Honda, but it’s way too heavy and wanna go lighter.

@@stephenc2738 thanks for the feedback. And thanks for watching.
Looking at a 20x, 2022, what should I look for? Most problematic issues?
@@toolonthehill Thanks for watching, the most common issues are a leaky back door seal, the water heater not heating the water. The best advice I can give you is to test everything. Make the sellers show you how it works works and actually experience it.
@@StreamDreamin thanks going soon to do a walk through. Thanks for the help!
Simple improvement I would not have thought about. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Where is the Fuze for the jack? The fuse between the jack and the battery?
In my case I put it close to the battery. If you look closely at about 7:00-8:15 on the video you'll see the black tube on the red wire. That's the fuse holder. You could also splice it in closer to the jack if you prefer. I chose to put it in the battery compartment to keep it out of the weather. That's just personal preference. Thanks for the question and for watching. There's a lot more to come.
You tell a story well
