Can't beat the happy sound of a Dutch street organ. Great to see it presented with typical trailer and cover as in the Netherlands. I would so love to have one like this to take to rallies and events.

I can`t get over how good `clocks` sounded

The skills in building & maintaining pipe organs lends itself to other branches of heritage crafts like Automatons, Dioramas, Old Toys etc = I should imagine its such a wonderful craft to be involved with.

Fascinating, I love the sound of these organs, I recorded one in the walnuts Orpington in 1968!

Great video from a man who clearly lives Organs in all or most of their iterations. You David were so lucky to have had a childhood growing up around Fairground and Show organs. You have a multitude of skills even beyond most " Church" organ builders due to some of the more bizarre actions and things that are being hit, burped, or whatever! I got fascinated by organ music first at school, our first senior school teacher was a very good organist and several times a year we had some musical thing going on in the chapel of Dr Bernardo's home in Barkingside Ilford. And the Christmas carol service. I got the job of turning the pages when our teacher played a piece at the end. Unfortunately then ima family couldn't afford a piano nor the lessons to learn. My dad was a senior male nurse, but before he started his training he had served an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker in the East End of London, and encouraged my love of woodwork. So when I left school I was apprenticed to NP Mander of Bethnal Green and learnt my trade there I got out of the trade to do other things eight years after starting, but as you so rightly say the skills learned in organ building are myriad. To my mind the organ building apprenticeship is one of the finest things to set you up for life skills. While an apprentice, I did the majority of the firms metalwork as far as the hardware of the organ, making trundles, brazing the arms in, that sort of thing ( not a metal hand as in pipe making). After leaving the trade I eventually became a teacher of woodwork and metalwork and thought in a local comprehensive school. I'm nearly 70 now and am so happy I had that training starting some 55 years ago. I'd love to visit your workshop and see some things being carried out.

David, I love fairground or street organs they have fascinated me since my childhood. For my phone ringing tune I have a piece called "Calling all workers" played by the ex Tom Smith 98 key Gavioli fair organ, I always know when it is my phone that is ringing. I would love to meet you one day and hear your fine Dorothea. I have subscribed, let us hear more please, I love steam rallies and have been going for more than 60 years.
