Smol back guy telling me what to do for smol shoulders.... is what I'd say if I was a dweeb 😉
I agree with a lot of what your saying here, id just like to add as someone one who is particularly fond of the OHP that 1. If your goal is strength then its not non-negotiable but youd really miss out if you didnt have the OHP in your program, and 2. Its very fun.
Personal experience, but I have very good, striated and capped shoulders for a natural and I basically only do overhead press and deep handstand push-ups (which is pretty much the same thing) and sometimes lateral raises
i workout so that people can stop bullying me
Idk man my shoulders got way bigger after adding standing ohp. Worked up from 95lbs to 185lbs since jan. Working towards 225
Do you have a guide on how to not have a small back?
For everyone attention
Richard Lift-son
ohp does way more than front delts lmao
Well, it's not even that good of an exercise for the front delts. It's gonna be very lackluster in actually providing a solid stimulus to any other muscles.
what about Squat University?
Deadlift and frontsquat in this order! ❤
Its big booooi seasooooon
I like it as I feel it pretty well and it's simple
I don’t disagree but one thing with the fitness industry I don’t understand is the constant harping of pressing motions making your front delts overdeveloped. I’ve seen very little actual evidence of this and I don’t understand why people push rear delt training but not front delt considering the fact that pretty much all pulling movements hit the rear delts as much as pressing movements hit the front delts. And while back guy’s physique is very impressive it’s obviously not really evidence of anything as genetics play a major role in how developed various muscles will be and he could just have good shoulder genetics relative to the rest of his body.
Fucking back guy still delivering top tier content! Let's GOOOOO. Competition time!
In my experience on this earth, anytime a person utters “do your own research” they usually are yip yapping. Bullshitting if you will
The better reason to do over head press is so you don't have to do incline. It hits the upper pecs quite well
I had pretty small shoulders since i have the physique of a spider monkey. Doing overhead press and high incline bench has definitely helped for my shpulder development That being said do not neglect your lateral and rear delts! And they're fairly simple to work
Back Guy became jacked shoulder guy
What about upside down kettlebell overhead press? I feel it helps woth stability issues but I'm not sure which muscles I'm working
It will just be a worse version of a shoulder press. If the goal is muscle growth, a very bad exercise comparatively
@@BackGuy My goal is shoulder stability when I do KB overhead press. I feel more unstable on one side, I feel the exercise has helped somewhat.

Grizzly is 💯%♿
I do lateral raises for bigger shoulders, but sometimes I like to do overhead press for strength and for fun.
Of course it is not the best for hyperthrophy but it is a very functional movement.
I always enjoy my movements
We need a colab BackGuy and Latman (just Jake Leonard) Please make it happen! Keep up the good work 😊
Saying that a high fat diet has a strong link to insulin resistance is insane. Look into keto community and how people literally reverse their insulin resistance and diabetes before citing shady science as proof of your claims. And then you claim that protein is linked to high insulin? My guy... The most insulin is secreted when carbs are consumed. Stop with nonsense.
Love the information vids so much! Keep it up man, you're great!
I love overhead press, it’s very functional
Bro did a little flex and immediately I was like okay wow dude has them death star shoulders like Derek lol
wat? he is just average fat dude...
or you know... G E N E T I C S
Most of us will never build boulder shoulders without the special sauce, might as well take 300mg of the good stuff every week instead of debating on exercises that barely make a difference.
Genetics don't determine how you should train, rather what the results look like.
Actually when i started doing OHP my shoulders started growing, it was a missing stimulus
My hot take is that because u can generally still retract ur scapula at least 5 times after rows, they’re more of a rear delt exercise. No need for isolation. What do u think about that?
Definitely agreed, but the contractile direction and the mechanical tension when the rear delts are lengthened is not the same. The front delts will be loaded in a lengthened position with flat bench (depending on elbow positioning, but the rear delts won't be (as much). + based on experience, I've never seen someone with more developed rear delts than front delts
Also, scapula retraction isn't a primary function of the rear delts. The traps and rhomboids (and somewhat lats) do that.
@@BackGuy I mentioned that to say that when the rear delts fail on rows, the upper back is generally not yet as close to failure as it should ideally be trained.
Ur right. Rows are def more of a shortened-biased rear delt exercise, so certain isolations should be better for hypertrophy. Or the rows could be performed with lengthened partials. Side tangent, it’s a bit disconcerting to me that rows don’t take the upper back close to failure. What place do rows have in a training program if lengthened-biased rear delt isolations could train the rear delts better, and mid trap shrugs could train the upper back better?
C'est rafraîchissant de faire partie d'une communauté où les différences sont célébrées plutôt que vilipendées. C'est une bouffée d'air frais.👅
OK, but what about your back, though?😂
Not saying you shouldn't overhead press, just that if your goal is muscle hypertrophy, it's not the best alternative, similar to how flat bench isn't the best for chest hypertrophy. Lots of central fatigue for little muscular rewards. If you like overhead presses, go ahead.
As someone who LOVES OHP, yeah it is not the best for pure muscle hypertrophy for the shoulders. Face pulls + Lateral Raises + Front Raises are the best three when it comes to stimulus to fatigue ratio.
Ok mr. Wide AF Fridge but if OHP is not the best why is it so fun to do ahah checkmate
Overhead press keeping you big as hell
Cool, but I think the US needs to invade Australia
Average “you must do this and only I am right “ user vs “common goddamn sense”, who wins?
I really appreciate your ability to make quality content. Your videos always stand out from the rest. Keep up the good work!🥊😝🐎
The "carb/sugar-insulin model of obesity" has been shown to be unfounded, thoroughly debunked, and yet we still see people spreading the anti-carb/insulin misinformation all over
