In Reformed Covenant Theology: A Systematic Introduction, Harrison Perkins shows how Christ and his work are the heart of that covenant relationship. Since God lives in covenant with his redeemed people, covenant theology provides a framework for Christians to grow in their life with God, to read the Bible, and to love the church.

I am going to re-post this message as I did on Shawn's interview with Dr. Brug. """With your permission, Shawn, I will post a message for both of you. I did not know about your organization, EHV, Dr. John Brug, and interestingly enough I am also working on a revision (not a translation !) of the KJV. I am not a scholar, but I have studied some of these things since childhood. I also saw the need for some revisions of the biblical text. And my intent was to make use of the Paleo Hebrew text as much as possible, and especially the Aramaic Version of The New Testament. However there are a few other finer points that we need to make. First, however popular the idea is among scholars, and however useful it is for us today, Lord Jesus, Paul, the rest of the New Testament writers would have NEVER quoted from the Septuagint ! There is not shred of evidence of that happening. Second, I have read that the authentic Septuagint burned down in a fire at Ptolemy's library in Alexandria. Third, luckily, apparently a copy of The LXX managed to go to the Greek world, before the fire. Fourth, The Greeks "sanitized" it quite a bit, and that is why we have some strange additions to it that do not add up at all as Scripture. Fifth, and MOST IMPORTANT, The ORIGINAL Septuagint was translated from the ORIGINAL HEBREW TEXT, penned down in the PALEO HEBREW SCRIPT, which at some point is some 2500 years older than the Masoretic Text, not to mention that The MT was "sanitized" as well by the Judean scribes. HOWEVER ALL the New Testament citations of Lord Jesus, Paul and the rest of NT writers are in perfect concordance with the records of The LXX, just because it was translated from scrolls much closer to authenticity. As I said above, I am working on an edition of The Bible and I am making full use of both the records of The Paleo Hebrew, as found in a few still extant ancient translations of the Old Testament, and a few fragments found among the Dead See Scrolls, - AND the Aramaic Version of The new Testament - and in certain paces a great difference will be seen. Yes, it will look strange at first, but I am sure the honest believers will love it. It is now in a "beta" stage, I will most probably be ready by the yearend, but if you want it right now, I can send it to you both. Shawn, how about reviewing books that challenge your perspectives, particularly those you might not agree with (besides the reformed stuff)? I suggest three books you might disagree with but surely are interesting: - God is Open: Examining the Open Theism of the Biblical Authors, by Christopher Fisher - The Fire That Consumes: A Biblical and Historical Study of the Doctrine of Final Punishment, Edward William Fudge - How God Sees Women: The End of Patriarchy, by Terran Williams (not suggesting that I agree with these authors) It is often very beneficial to consider different perspectives.

I'm more than a little annoyed by this comment. I review books by people I don't agree with. Special Revelation and Scripture disagreed with me on interpretation. The End of the World as You Know had an entirely different eschatology. Biblical Theology by Witherington, I disagreed with him in many places. Crisis of Confidence by Truman - I entirely disagreed with his view on Confessional Statements. The Pirate Bible. Salvation by Allegiance Alone. After the Ball. 101 Bible Questions. Neo-Calvinism and on. I have reviewed many, many books by those with whom I disagreed.

From Exodus to Revelation, for anyone to rightly divide truth from truth within scripture, Paul gives the 3 as: Time Past, But Now, and Ages to Come. We live in the "But Now" age of what Paul also calls the Dispensation of the Grace of God. (DoG for short). If anyone can find me a singular "church age" in scripture, I've got $1000 to give them. This term was invented so soft replacement theologians can exert control over other men. To do this, they need to prove they share in the things prophesied to Israel in Joel 2 and explained by Peter in Acts 2. The Mystery, on the other hand, was given to Paul mid-way through his ministry and the proof that it was still being rejected 40 years after Christ's ascension is seen in Acts 21 by the mouth of James talking to Paul about the thousands in Judea all zealously following the law. Clearly RR continues to trump scripture with seminary fabrication's to some extent, but hey, don't stop sharing the gospel of grace.

Provisionism is not a branch of thought that refutes the monergistic gospel, because it would imply that the entire movement called Protestant Reformation was not led by the Holy Spirit, but by the Devil. If the reformers, who were serious pastors, freed us from Roman semi-Pelagianism, ancient and modern Arminianism, as well as Provisionism, do return us to semi-Pelagianism. Because they teach that in the end, it was I who chose God, through my libertarian free will. The Potter's choice is ignored, in order to center salvation on man who in the end chooses God, and not the other way around. If we look at the world of sects, all of them (without exception) believe in libertarian free will. But who is the only one who has free will, if not God himself, who is not influenced by anything outside of himself, unlike man. Man has freedom, but not free will, like God, this is clear and crystal clear in the Scriptures that the one who chooses is God Himself (Is 49.1, Jr 1.1-3, Galatians 1.15 etc etc) But for the heretics of our times it is preferable to listen to Leighton Flowers and so many others who deny the Scriptures, and the Absolute Sovereignty of God. It's another insightful and worthy review, my friend. I was intrigued by the characterization of the Sermon on the Mount as being a campaign speech. Since we are in a presidential election year, I suppose that the comparison should not be a surprise to me. It's not that I seriously disagree. Through the fifty plus years since our Lord called me to preach His Word, He has privileged me to teach/preach through Matthew's account in various venues, and most recently to a class in a local Bible college. The Holy Ghost has given me peace in teaching that the Sermon on the Mount has a triple application, although only one of them, of course, is the primary one. Although He knew that He would be rejected as King during His first advent, He made a legitimate offer, nonetheless. The Sermon on the Mount was delivered at that time to demonstrate precisely how He would administrate His kingdom. Though they rejected Him as King, the principles were inspired, perfect, and practical, even for that day: It had secondary value/interpretation during His first advent. During the Church Age, we do not look for a King or a kingdom. Yet, again, the principles are invaluable for both believers and unbelievers: It has tertiary value/interpretation for the Church Age. However, He is not returning at His second advent to take sides, but to take over. And, the Sermon on the Mount is what I call "the Constitution of the Millennial Kingdom." This is precisely (though not in complete detail) how He will administer His 1000-year reign on Earth, following His second coming: It will have its primary value/interpretation during the Millennium. This is quite close to the explanation which you presented, if I understood you correctly. Kudos on an excellent review! It sounds to be a well-thought-out book.

If we focused on the genealogy of Jesus Christ, before and after his manifestation in the flesh, you would conclude that he was not a perfect man, nor could he be God. Yet there he is perfect. The word of God is settled forever in heaven. All these linguistic champions with the original Hebrew and Greek arguments underestimate the Holy Ghost and the perfect work of translation. The scholarly stance and attack on childlike faith is an iniquity and arrogance that truly doesn’t want to submit to the absolute authority of the word of God. The contemptorary church has certainly been led astray, men leading others after themselves. Sorry, the Greek here means this, and this manuscript says this here so, what the KJV should have said is this. It is all nonsensical. It is a heart issue, and itching ears don’t want to hear. The division of the body of Christ has not been caused by the KJV only position. The issue in Jesus’s day is the same as it was during his ministry. The division was twofold: his person and his word: John 7:53 & John 10:19. The admonition was clear in Romans 16:17-18. And Paul addressed the situation 1 Corinthians 1:10 & 3:3.

Why force this to have some strained application today. As pointed out, Jesus is offering the kingdom (i.e., to restore the kingdom) to the Jews (4:17). This offer, also called "the gospel of the Kingdom" (4:23) finds further description in the Sermon on the Mount. But Jesus is not just telling the Jews what the Kingdom will be like--I think they would have already known that from the OT; Jesus is exhorting them about how they should now live because the Kingdom is coming. This is preparation for living in the Kingdom. Or, at least gives the implications of how you should living in light of the coming Kingdom. The commands in this passage seem to set this teaching in that day (not the future) although it is because of what will happen in the future (the Kingdom): 5:12, 16; 6:33 etc. Also, much of this passage is about living before, not in, the Kingdom (5:20 'enter the kingdom of heaven'; 6:33 'seek first the kingdom of God'). So I would take this passage as directly applicable to the Jews in Jesus day, but as result of their rejection of Him as their Messianic King, it will now only be directly applicable to the Jews in the Tribulation----This is because it is about how to live in preparation for entering the Kingdom. I see no real direct application to the Church Age other than the moralistic teachings that can also be found elsewhere in the Bible (just because Jesus said it does not make it more relevant). Peace Out

If you can find it, the work of Wilber Pickering on developing an accurate Greek text from which to translate is very valuable. He's comparing 300 or more extants, to come up with the most like the original. I don't think his translating ability is exceptional, but his methodology for determining what's the best in the Greek is outstanding. He considers the critical texts but shows through their own lack of internal consistancy, that they're not to be trusted. Generally they are only 66% percent consistent between themselves. Whereas the majority text is around 98%

As far as the religious side, can a nation really exist without any spiritual authority? Doesn’t scripture say that man can serve God or money? Is “no master” ever mentioned as an option anywhere in the Bible? Everywhere in the Bible, God demonstrated his authority through real power on earth. Some people can find faith from smaller signs in their own life, but I believe that most people take the world at face value. They can see what money rules every aspect of our lives, and place their faith accordingly. But as far as what you said about a ‘prince’, couldn’t it be an assembly of priests, or something like that?

You don't retire a product like that. As long as people want it they will buy it and should. It still sells more copies than all other translations ranked third and below. The fact it hasn't broken through the NIV #1 spot-- even once--in years and years and years is suspicious as all get out. The church isn't unified in any single thing where a definitive "retire it" command or consensus could be made or respected. In advocating for retiring the KJV one is simply being "Not KJV" only. It's God's word. And the translation will run its course when it runs its course. We like to manufacture everything instead of letting nature take its course. The fact it isn't faded into obscurity means it is far from doing so. And anyone who wishes it was any other way is being a partisan social engineering snob twit. There should be made a faithful update as an alternative.... One without critical text notes, one without altering the meaning of the text (like broad and "difficult." One that doesn't remove any verses. The reason we don't have a faithful modern update is because no one has done it honestly.

So the 2020 is the “ woke “ version of NASB. Great 😂😂. I like it but I don’t like changing text to what “ we think it should mean “ due the changing the text because the times have changed , I don’t agree with one bit …. I’m pretty sure I learned in seminary , we are not allowed to add too the text or change it. So saying “ brothers and sisters “ is factually incorrect my friend !! The Bible is also clear that women cannot be pastors and deacons of a church. They can teach and play all kinds of roles but not leadership. Why , because God punished us for for eternity and the end result due to Eve being NIEVE and eating the fruit. We all are now punished with death because of Eve. This is also why women are not aloud to lead churches. Although I have seen way to many churches allowing women as pastors - soley to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy rather than abiding by Gods RULES. So many churches have went “ WOKE “ Very sad that all these pastors and churches are rebelling against Gods literal word !!! Kinda mind blowing to me …..
