Borgeson Power Steering Upgrade on C3 Corvette
I have a 1978 C3 Corvette and I upgraded from the leaky stock system to the Borgeson Power Steering. I haven't seen a lot of videos on this, but was able to fumble through the install. Fairly straight forward with a few hiccups along the way.
I ordered the Borgeson unit from Summit Racing. You can check it out here: www.summitracing.com/parts/brg-999032

Bought a project car - 1978 Corvette 25th Anniversary

I purchased this car from a guy who was moving and needed it gone asap. He had owned it for about a year and a half. Prior to that it sat in a field for 20 years. It is in rough shape. It runs ok, but there isn't anything that doesn't need to be touched. Planning to attack safety items first (brakes, steering, suspension). Then I'll move to electrical. Then I might move to interior and exterior...
Wow you can really see that box flexing
I am in the middle of installing my kit. I am having a hell of a time compressing my steering column. I'm going to try to heat it with a propane torch. Any thoughts?

GREAT JOB !!! HOPE TO SEE MORE VIDEOS ON YOUR CORVETTE !! JESSE VIA LAS VEGAS
Great video
lol.. if anyone ever see's this.. i bet that goes through the mind of many youtubers when they make videos. i often wonder if anyone would like watching all the stuff i get up to in my garage. Maybe one of these days ill start a channel as well. Great video sir! how hard was it to get your old steering box off? my headers seem to infringe on the space id need to get a ratchet in to loosen off the bolts. im worried theyre gunna be impossible to get off.
just about to put a borgeson unit on my 78 pace car, to date the steering has been a disaster, iv replaced everything and its still crap, fingers crossed borgeson wins the day
Nicely done Thank you for a great tutorial. 😊
Good Work! Nothing like the satisfaction of DYI.. I had my little helper help me too.. Awesome memories.....
Appreciate it. I think this is the only C3 Borgenson conversion video that shows everything. I've watched 4 or 5 other so far and nobody shows the linkage assembly after installation and one guy took it all off completely and used some flat looking linkage that I couldn't find anywhere. Got my kit today so I'm hoping to get it done this weekend!
Looking for an update!
Borgeson is a super good upgrade. If your steering wheel isn't perfectly straight, just remove it and clock it a few splines.
My up grade has a leak also.. Replaced my old system and hoped the leaks were gone. Got a drip on low pressure where it hooks into the steering box. Wrote customer service no response. slightly disappointed Borgeson Power Steering system..
The leak isn't Borgesons fault.
Good luck! I just acquired a '78 anniversary edition myself. Needs total resto.
Good Job Guy !! Probably do the same with my leaky power steering cylinder !!
I notice when you turned it lock to lock at around the 17:30 mark I could see the steering box move - I sure hope that it was the bolts not yet done up tight rather than the frame rail flexing!
Good eye, and he didn't purchase an extra mounting bracket that bolts from the from to the top of the box. I did however, have not installed the upgrade on my 81 Vette.
i noticed the same thing.. flexes when it reaches the end of travel in both directions 😬
I have a 76 I installed this kit into. It honestly doesn’t feel much different than stock. It did eliminate all the leaky parts. The steering shaft was stuck so I WD 40’d it about twice a day for a few days. That really worked. It made that part of the install so much easier. Great video. Your car is coming along.
I have an '80 I want to install this kit into, the main thing for me is that my steering box has been adjusted so much that it hardly has any return to center ability and there is still a little play in the steering. Did you find the Borgeson box to be otherwise tight and have a good return to center feeling? The ram has been replaced recently but of course it's leaking again. My option is either go this Borgeson box route or bite the bullet and spend more than double on a rack & pinion system.
@@te71se The Borgeson is very tight, no play. I did my C3 last year. Make sure all the rest of the steering is also tight or new.
Thanks for the video! Been debating about doing this ourselves on my wife's 69 C3. Definitely going to tackle this job as soon as it cools of a bit.
