From VHS tape of my brother Kevin's family and mine as we met at Lake Powell for a week vacation and renting a house boat. To our children, we loved these days of playing together with all of you at the lake.

For the family. Remembering you kids and your sweet faces and happy voices. We lived in a new place, a new house, new schools, a new boat and Jetski. It was a wonderful day. Hope you enjoy the memories

This is for our kids, this was one of the first trips we made with the new enclosed trailers. Made life much easier. Our good friends Scott and Jan Bigler with their kids are pictured here.

16mm home movie film. In 1977, my neighbor invited us to go to Pismo Beach to ride his dune buggy. We were hooked. Went home and started building a buggy from an old VW pan Dan Haskins gave me, got parts from the OC Swap Meet, rebuilt a VW 1600 engine, and saved up to buy two used sand tires. My brother, father and I drove to Glamis during the night and in the morning drove off the T trailer an...

This was filmed using a 16mm movie camera. We were having such fun driving in the dunes we tried to record what it was like. Didn't know much about how to use the camera. We were adding more buggies and friends all the time. I posted this for the family to see and remember.
Glamis dunes 1985 part 2 -- Payzant
zhlédnutí 12KPřed 7 lety
During this time we were learning to drive along the crest of the dunes and follow a natural course from crest to crest instead of driving up and down the face of a dune. This made travel easier. Dipping into the crescent allowed us to whip up to the next dune. This was the early days of improved suspension and lighter tires.
Glamis dunes 1985 part 1 -- Payzant
zhlédnutí 15KPřed 7 lety
Part 1 and 2 come from home movies on VHS tape of the Payzant family and friends during the mid-80s. Most of the buggies in our group are second generation sand rails that I built at my shop in Huntington Beach. I used Hi Jumper frames, modified VW engines and transmissions. Wheels where bought from Sand Tires Unlimited in Santa Ana. Jim Faulkner took this video.

Love the 80's porn music!! I miss the good ol' days where camping in a group meant more than just getting drunk by the fire then driving or riding like a moron. You broke down and everybody passing by would stop and check on you. Nowadays most fly right past you.

Old school toys, old school motorhomes. The good ol' days. Our camp had the Winnebago's and Commanders. A couple corvair buggies that were always breaking down and my dad's VW which was reliable as hell. Plus some 250r's and a couple 185S. Then us kids had our 70's

Awesome look back here, thanks! I first went on Lincoln’s Bday weekend 1977 and rode as a passenger in a ride to comp hill to watch the big boys of the day race the hill. I couldn’t believe my eyes at all the action. This really cool post takes me back and thanks again for sharing. Btw who is the one noob that gave this a thumbs down??

Thanksgiving of 1985 was my 1st trip to Glamis Sand Dunes. I had an '84 KX250 dirtbike and my friends had 3 wheelers. One had a Suzuki street bike engine in his 3 wheeler and it was pretty fast. My first introduction to Comp Hill, Oldsmobile and China Wall. Best memories I have to date. Thanks for uploading these.

I was at Glamis during Thanksgiving of '85. I had an '84 KX250. It was the first purchase I ever made on credit/loan. I was 18 years old then, lol. My neighbor had 3 wheelers and I was lucky enough to go on vacation with them in 85 to the "sand dunes." It was my first trip riding in the sand without a paddle tire. Those are some of the best memories I have.

This is one of the best videos I have seen. Amazing that you were out there in the "High dunes" and the moves those older heavy VW cars were making are very impressive! I still ride my ATC350x, but the entire group is in the modern side by sides and larger v8 buggies with the King Suspension set ups. You really take for granted how far technology has come... I started going again this year, I was born in 77. Your videos from the 80's are golden. Thank you for sharing!

OMG what a trip. My Dad used to take us to Glamis and Pismo ... late 70's / early 80's. He too built a custom dune buggy and at one point custom built a long trailer with a Truck Camper atop of it...to give enough room to fit the dune buggy in the rear area and a small "porch" in front of the camper to fit two three wheelers upright. Oh what a sight and treat it was to go to these places. Too bad with all the thought that went into going so many times and custom building a hauler, the thought of recording it never crossed our minds. But the memories remained ... and now i see this. thank you so much. i can't wait to show my dad these videos.

enjoyed reading your comment, looks like our families were on parallel tracks. the people of that time were helpful to all and just enjoyed the dunes together. loved seeing all the interesting machines and campsites. That and going to the airports to buy aviation gas for the buggies. We thought it made them go faster. Russ
