I work at Costa and one of the customers wanted his milk so hot that it bubbled over the top of the jug and poured scalding hot milk down my hand. This still works with an odd number of strings! Just a little tip I learned, when you start the loop, tie the odd string in with that first knot, and keep tying it in, making sure the tail doesn't stick out. Hope this helps!
