MPC's Visualization Department took on the classic film challenge of designing an action packed car chase from scratch. Like our other Unreal shorts, "Hammerhead Canyon" and "The Fall of Emberlyn," this piece showed us new ways of working together using the latest visualization technology. Similarly with this short we were able to quickly world build out everything by leveraging online assets, using Megascans, pulling from our library, kit-bashing and building out bespoke models as needed. Our workflow was first to make a 'greatest hits' car chase animatic in Premiere, where we experimented with story ideas and pacing. Then we moved on to blocking and animation in Maya. Once we liked how the chase was shaping up, we used our custom built Apollo pipeline to push our shots into Epic's Unreal Engine. From there, we made our lighting and FX pass adjustments in engine, then we finally used After Effects to sweeten several shots. I'm especially proud of how this short came out, thanks to our incredible MPC Visualization team's hard work and creativity.

This is what great design is all about... two steps forward, one step back, repeat! As a design engineer that has gone full time creative, I have a total appreciation for and understanding of the previz process. Good stuff.
