This puzzle was not reset properly. The starting position the star has to rest ij those 2 slots on the top of the cube. When the video starts it is already half way solved.
Likely for brevity in the demonstration, the short form and quick explanation makes it so neither the explanation nor demonstration are extraneous
This didn't make any sense in my head until the very end where I saw that each piece had a ball attached to it
That is not reset properly. The star piece needs to be flipped 180 so that the notches rest in the slots. It needs to do a loop around the cube to flip is orientation. So its not actually 3 moves.
That's exactly what i thougt, i have this puzzle myself and knew from the start that this wasn't the right way

wouldn't be a puzzle if you can just pull it out wouldn't it?
He showed an attempt at the start of just pulling it out. The way it’s built, the large parts can slide into the slots in the gear pattern, but can’t get out. Additionally, when at a corner the hooked bits get caught on the inside corner pieces.
