I am very sad to hear of David Raeburn's death. I was extremely fortunate that my entire secondary education at B&PGS (& subsequently Langley Park) coincided with David Raeburn's entire tenure as headmaster. He was always quietly encouraging and always wanting to ensure you sought your best. This was led by his own quiet example and (I have no doubt) by encouraging the teachers to follow his own lead. As far as I am concerned (with incidentally a big nod too to both Bill Roberts and Roger Clay)David Raeburn had an enormously positive influence on my life. Thank you sir!

I was with AlanAP in the same year at Alleyn's. David was an extraordinary gift to us - lively, learned and enthusiastic, he instilled in me a love of language and particularly of verse which lives even though he is now dead. "He, being dead, yet speaketh."

David Raeburn taught me classics at Alleyn's School from 1958-1962. I've never met him since but he was a brilliant teacher, a wonderful influence and a genuine person. How special to hear him still in action. As a Baptist Minister for almost all of my working life, I am deeply grateful for the springboard David provided all those years ago for my access to New Testament Greek. I am deeply grateful.
