    Celebration in style for our 100-year-old agency is the perfect way to mark this milestone. I am very proud to be a part of this outstanding agency and thankful for the opportunity. From its humble beginnings to where it is today, LACSD has played a vital role in our community, providing essential services and support, as was well shown in the presentation videos. We have grown and evolved over time, but our core mission has not changed: to make a positive difference to the community we serve. I wish the agency many more years of success and impact, guided by our core vision and mission statement.

    You need to get to picking up the trash all over the streets and near all these homeless areas. You are getting exposed on YT and it's not looking very good for you guys. Trash bins full to the brim, or are completely taped off from using, so all the trash gets put on top of, or around the bin. Not to mention the sidewalks. What a cess pool!

    Thank you for the Update. I have been looking forward to it. I have a couple of questions listed below. 1) You mention that the engineers have factored in for seismic events, but with the new data on the Palos Verdes fault zone which recently came out and stated that it could possibly produce up to a 7.8 earthquake, will they have to re-examine and possibly make some modifications in that area? 2) I see that before the segments are put in place that there is already some sort of covering or lining there. Can you elaborate a bit on that area? Like the material used and or the thickness. 3) Once the tunneling is done and the segments are all in place will there be more interior lining put into the tunnel too smooth out the interior surfaces? Those segments seem to have a lot of pockets in them where they are bolted together. Thanks

      @losangelescountysanitation1852 Před rokem

      Hello, thank you for your questions. Please see our response. 1.The PV earthquake fault was incorporated into the overall structural design of the tunnel. A steel liner (sleeve) will be placed inside the tunnel along the PV earthquake fault. This design feature will provide sufficient structural reinforcement to withstand a 500-year earthquake. 2. Each wall segment is made of reinforced concrete that is over 1 foot thick. These wall segments are erected every 5 feet inside the tunnel boring machine (TBM) housing. Once all six segments are in place, forming a ring, the TBM pushes off the ring. When the TBM pushes forward several feet, the tunnel wall is exposed to the surrounding soil. A grout is injected into the narrow space in between the outer tunnel wall and the soil. 3. The concrete wall segments are edged with rubber gaskets that, when in place and bolted together, make the tunnel waterproof. The wall segments also have pockets as part of their design. These pockets are used to insert post-tensioning cables. Once all six wall segments are installed, forming a ring, the cable is tightened. This is another way of keeping the tunnel ring intact.

    Fascinating. And the San Gabriel Bike Path that passes the percolation basins is some 32 miles long, it starts at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains on Highway 39 above Auzsa at mile marker 18, and heads South some 32 miles to Seal Beach where it empties in to the ocean. Along the way there are a small number of road crossings, but the majority of the trail is free from automotive intrusion, the San Gabriel River Bike Path was designed to have minimal vehicle intrusion. Many people bicycle North during the day and then find a spot out of the way to camp, perhaps illegally at the Water Park or, even just as illegally, within the water drainage of the San Gabriel River -- which has its own safety hazards. Then they wake up in the morning and bicycle back South. Also this project is part of the "Toilets To Taps" TTT effort which is attempting to get Southern California to rely less and less on fresh water, reusing gray water more and more simply because we must, we have no choice. About 15 years ago, someone with the United Nations said that California needs to evacuate its populace *now* to avoid forced evacuations when water sources fail without suitable alternatives enough for the large population.

    SB-1383: An anaerobic digester is more efficient at producing methane than a landfill, and the product mix is higher concentration of methane. Where organics are diverted from landfill to digester, I believe there should be a net increase in usable methane production. With regards to electricity generation, the challenge then is getting the methane to the generating facility and I'd guess the vast, in place gas pipeline infrastructure would be used.
