How To Hold A Trumpet 🎺

Here's how to hold a trumpet. This is a good place to start for beginners who are just learning to play the trumpet. Hold your trumpet with your left hand. Play the valves with the right hand. The left hand supports the weight of the trumpet. Left-handed trumpet players still hold the trumpet with their left hand and play the valves with the right hand. My Website: trumpetheroes.com

Wowzers! I'm 71. I played the trumpet in band as a kid. First chair. Haven't kept it up all these years, but now in memory of my Dad, I regret never learning to play a couple tunes that he would play while sitting around the living room when i was little. Up a lazy River and the other one, to my surprise, the same tune you open up with here, by my dads favorite, Harry James. It's been a long, long , time. I've found some good links on CZcams here and have gotten some sheet music copied, but am finding I need a good refresher in order to figure out the right notes. Just trying to read the music is proving impossible. So this lead me to finding your video here, where you open up with this very song. I will be looking around at what you have here. Sharps and flats. Time signature counts and so much that to my surprise alludes me. So like the title of your opening tune. IT'S BEEN A LONG LONG TIME! So cool.
So helpful for me on my first days on my own...thanks so much ❤
Excellent first lesson. Thank you so much.
Got a super nice trumpet from my older cousin who stopped playing bc my Oma didn’t want her money going to waste and I already play 3 instruments (Baritone is my main instrument, then trombone and piano). I’ve messed around with it for a while, but decided to actually learn today!! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!
why he so mad 😭😭
Very good trumpet staff notation👌👍🌹🎵🎵🙏

Thanks for this video! Really helped me get started. Great explanation for beginners.
You really talk like a dad! This is really helpful for first timer, thank you
Thank you for teaching us Jeff Daniels
just got my first 2 notes sounded decent after watching many more videos, this video ended helping me a lot thanks for also sharing your website section "Fix a Low, Grumbling Sound", that helped me a lot
Hi. Great tutorial. What book wd you recommend ???...possibly one w a DVD.
My vintage Windsor trumpet doesn't have a slide adjusting valve
please add the brand of oil you like!
I've looked everywhere for something that could help my trumpet playing. I started two days ago and It seems like nothing else has what i'm looking for. Keep on going please!!! this is going to be the sixth instrument I know. so far, it's the easiest!! I would recommend playing the trumpet if you can't find any instruments you can play!
I love your teaching style right off the bat. As a mechanically minded non trumpet playing 62 year old who just bought one, I asked myself the questions re which viscosity grease for example, and bang there is the info. Working on your lesson one while waiting for silencer to spare the neighbours.
Thank you for your video. I am a beginner trumpet player. Actually, Im a vocalist who also wants to learn trumpet because I was forced to learn sight singing. I figured that I can use my sight singing skills to learn trumpet. It's not easy but I am doing ok with it. I like the trumpet because it's going to help me strenghten my core muscles. I am hoping that I can play the trumpet at Sunday mass. They'll let me do it if I get good at trumpet. It's pretty good but this instrument is not easy
still have my trumpet from marching band despite not touching it an almost a decade -- this is exactly what i needed to pick it back up!!! thank you so much!! im so excited to watch the rest of your lessons!
Ive going ba k to band i just had it since 6th grade
Where did playing trumpet like a week ago
It’s been a long long time. Love that song
Love your vids! Any of these considered non-toxic? I unfortunately used what came with a cheap trumpet, and could NOT get the petroleum based smell off my hands. Washed several times before trying to eat a sandwich after applying the oil. I understand petroleum based to be toxic.
Sorry, your demo is abit low on the video and I can't see it enough to be comfortable to follow you..thank you anyway..I'm moving on
Thank you.
I just purchased my first trumpet; I'm seriously about learning!
3:22 PLS HELP I DONT KNOW HOW TO BUZZ A TUNE THAT I KNOW😭😭😭😭
My trumpet doesn't slide
How can you get the clean stuff for the trumpet I am buying it on Friday
Im a clarinet player who is tryna learn how to play trumpet so I can be in jazz band 😅
Hey Jim, thank you so much. after not playing for over 25 yrs. this is the best warm-ups and explanations I've heard. great job. suggestion, maybe before we start we could talk about tuning our horn to yours. Maybe you cover this later not sure. but am enjoying this. looking forward to what more you have to share. And esp. thanks that there is no charge, I am disabled and living on a very tight budget.
Just started a few days ago and this video, along with the sheet music, is just amazing!
I have a question which, in concept, has to do with extending range. However it is not about extending range into top-C and beyond, but rather about getting a very young student to progress from F above bottom C to G. Do you have any suggestions on how to TEACH this please? I have been playing trumpet for about 45 years and have long since forgotten how I progressed from the first open note to the second. Recently I started teaching a young girl (8 years old) to play the trumpet. I play the trumpet at church each week and this led to the girl asking me to teach her. She can now get fairly decent sounds from C to F but cannot get to the G. I have tried to explain about tightening the muscles in the lips and about changing the position and shape of the tongue but this is all very theoretical and is not getting the success I am hoping for. I have tried getting her to whistle low and high sounds to get her to experience the changes in the lips and tongue, but she is very new to whistling as well and cannot vary her whistling. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get her from F to G?
Greatly appreciated JIm

My father in law gifted me his old trumpet yesterday. I was delighted to jump into this lesson. ... Unfortunately, my wife didn't enjoy the 30 minutes of 2 notes and accompanying parps. I fear the trumpet may not be meant for me.
I’m 66 years old and have a friend who can teach me. I play many stringed instruments including violin but always wanted to play a brass or woodwind instrument. ?????
How about letting the plane taking of. Pedal tones. I did not know the name.
Taking breaks is key. playing softly is what I prefer Long really low notes even before breakfast. Surprises bij r 7. The octaves. Challenging so a serious warm up. Respect 🙏 Feel relaxing… ⚓️🐄🐌
Outstanding instruction. Thanks from an absolute beginner.
I've already learned how to play trhmpet from my mididle school band i was in. Im in 8th grade but o haven't been using my trumpet and i lost rhe skills i had last year when i was in band. Trying to relearn again and be good again :)
💯
😂 I chose flute first, trumpet will be my third instrument I'm learning after sax.
You have made this more comprehensive than any other teacher I have come across. I wish I had seen your posts sooner. These practice warmups are what I have been looking for. Thank you.
Wow thanks and finally got it right❤😂
What should I do with my trumpet when I finish practicing? Do I need to take it apart and dry it each time?
