Hello!
This is a guide explaining how the 2024 PHB Origin feats work and the rules they interact with. This is meant for newer players or those who need a refresher on the rules.

Drakewarden (Fizban's Ranger subclass) is unironically really good against dragons. You can summon your drake as the same type as the dragon to get resistance to its element, the drake has a fly speed of 40ft (unless mounted), and the level 11 feature can use any dragon element and can originate from you or your drake.
This. When I ran my Ancient Black Dragon encounter, one of the NPCs had this subclass. I found it great defensively. Soaked up a ton of damage. I did find it a little frustrating that the enemy dragon was immune to the Drake’s breath. That’s the tradeoff I suppose.
@@dmofmanyfaces The 11th level breath attack can be different from the element you chose for your drake. The npc could’ve had a black drake (acid) and then breath lightning on one turn then fire on the next. It doesn’t make sense but it is clearly defined RAW.
@@jacka7275 Ah, you are correct. It appears I’ve misremembered my own stubbornness of not wanting an incongruent dragon colour and breath attack damage type. Thanks!

Off the bat, I’m guessing paladin
Druid + any heavy hitter. Not druid by themselves, but with a solid damage dealer…eeeeasy.

For those who somehow don't know, Wildheart is the BG3 name for Totem Barbarian. Also, the Monk requires concentration to fly - you're using Ki to cast the spell, but fall damage is probably negligible at worst. The only thing that allows monk to not concentrate is the new One D&D which I'd be shocked to see anyone using. Kinda stopped ranking things in my head once I realised you were using these since I'm not touching it with a 10ft pole. Still, I like the vibe of monks and rogues being the unexpected Dragon Slayers as opposed to the typical knights and warriors we see in a lot of media.
@@InfiniteEscuro Thank you for the comment! I too enjoy the Monk/Rogue Dragonslayer vibe. Just to clarify, the Totem Warrior name was also brought into the 2024 PHB and the Warrior of the Elements subclass doesn’t use Spells for its abilities anymore 👍

It's specifically elements monk that is especially good vs dragons, if we just look at the average member of each class, I would very much say the ranger has most stuff covered Also, Absorb elements is expanded content *not* legacy content if I am not mistaken, legacy content refers to content which was replaced by the new books, while absorb elements has never been reprinted, so it is just expanded content
The flight really wins monk points. Good looking out! My interpretation of legacy just means everything prior to the 2024 PHB. That may or may not stray from the designer’s chosen terms 🤷♂️
Well monk tend to run out of ki point quickly and again a dragon you hope that you beat it quickly

Unfortunately that ability does not come online until level 14 for the Wild Heart (Formerly Known as Totem Warrior)
Artificer is not a full caster. and my vote is for the Monk. I love monks.

Its worth mentioning that monks will eventually get proficiency in con saves and get a reroll on all saves, and a grappling focused build can take goliath for large form and grapple the dragon to the ground for your teammates to target it.
This is true! Maybe ill take a look at all the classes at higher levels, once I get a better grasp of this update
Guessing based on build alone and not flavor. Rogues can negate breath weapon easily, deal solid damage, and reduce damage from an attack every round as a reaction. Also getting bonus action disengage makes this a solid option to navigate terrain and avoid the dragon while still getting sneak attacks in using the aim feature from Tasha's while the dragon is airborne. No competition here at this level

I don't see a monk beating a dragon. Monk in the air is like delivery. Doesn't mean monk is close to the dragon. Then you have to assume he has trained fighting in the air. Ranger, I keep trying to think damage they will trade off. Would a dragon even stay in the air. Not a 1:1 but best balance.
Some variation will occur! Ranger and Monk are super close in my mind. Basically either could win at that point
Wizard. Everyone knows you need a Wizard to take down a dragon.
I had a ranger who only ever reached PvP 3, but whose favored enemy was draconic and whose dream was to kill a dragon one day.
I’d say Artificer Those scales just weren’t built to withstand a .50 cal AP shot And a dragon can’t 4k feet/second

Iirc I used to spam magic missiles to get around the spell resistance. It's like using a gatlin gun against Godzilla.
Auto damage is great 👍 but damage isn’t everything!
@@dmofmanyfaces correct and without watching I'm gonna guess the winner was the rogue or ranger. Not sure what rule sets you're running as I'm a casual commentator but trap effects can be amaze balls.
So going to say ranger because of flying. Rogues could be better but odds are still ranger.

Hexblade warlocks are pretty effective against dragons. I had one slay over half a dozen dragons
Haven't watched it, but it's Wizard, it's always Wizard.
I'll have to try this weekend with my rapier duelist that's ment to be a musketeer
