New wrecks 2016
This year 2016 is generous with new objects in Baltic sea near Lithuania . Last week we managed to look at 2 objects , the first is a pontoon terribly boring one , another one is old wooden wreck , was exciting , badly damaged after hitting the bottom , but still interesting one . The first was on 58 m at the bottom , the second 63 m .

I am currently working on a scientific paper about a soldier named Heinrich Schrage who died on this warship. Would it be possible for you to send me the location of the wreck? It would really help me to reconstruct the tragic fate of this sailor.

The U-580 was a brand new U-Boot Type 7c under the command of Oberleutnant Hans Kuhlmann in november '41 which collided with a German target ship in the Baltic, west of Memel, causing the sinking of the sub. There were 32 survivors and 12 dead. U-Boot Kapitän Kuhlmann survived the accident, only to die 8 months later in the U-166 in the Gulf of Mexico. RIP.

es ist ein Denkmal, junge Menschen starben für ihr Vaterland, stellvertretend, denn dies 7C Boot U-580 war wohl nie im Kampf, sondern bei einem Unfall, es wird durch "Lula" Tauchboot schon mal mit U-581 verwechselt, letzteres vor den Azoren liegend in 856 m Tiefe, eine Jahrhundertentdeckung

Where is the sound
with the amount of provisions, preserved food and the water converter still working its quite possible the trapped sailors could survive 5 maybe even 10 years in a sunken uboat, lack of sunlight would be damaging to their overall health though. I wish there had been more of an effort in the late 40's and 50's to raise uboats and save the trapped sailors
And the oxygen they need was coming from where but still interesting though you never know

Fun fact. I live near that place, the sub is sunken beacause it colided with fisherman ship. Also my home town survived 115 days against red army, it is the record for axis side

Was it sunk in action or was it scuttled??? Where abouts is it located? Can you get inside the sub???
It entered service very late in the war and never saw any action, just a few patrols, it was involved in a collision with the target ship angelburg.

JB Robertson I'm sorry, I gave you the wrong information, the boat was built early in the war, launched in May 1941, commissioned in July of that year, did some of the usual crew training missions, but no patrols and sunk no ships. 12 sailors died in the accident in November 1941, including one man who helped 3 sailors get off the boat, but ended up going down with it himself, 32 survived. It's in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Lithuania.

Why I asked that question about going inside is I'm a picker and I always thought it would be kind of neat to go inside one of them and see what you can find but not if it's a grave site.Cheers

This ship was actualy found by latvian divers from Ventspils , we just had great oportunity to dive and film the amazing wreck .

Gyvenu šalia šio forto, vakystėj eidavom palandžioti po tunelius (nors laaabai baisau, bet ir itin smalsu būdavo), žiemą nuo kalniukų čiuožinėdavom. Kažkaip šalia gyvenant man toks tiesiog elementars objektas šis fortas buvo. Bet labiau pasidomėjus Kauno tvirtove ir į VIII fortą pradėjau kitaip žiūrėti.
