I went in search of the old "flume" foundation or possibly a track down by the Lerderderg river that i saw on satellite images. I'm currently on the lookout for the route of a flume that possibly we...

    A flume is a human-made channel for water, in the form of an open declined gravity chute whose walls are raised above the surrounding terrain, in contrast to a trench or ditch. Flumes are not to be confused with aqueducts, which are built to transport water; flumes use flowing water to transport materials.

    • @PlasticAssasin8
      @PlasticAssasin8 Před měsícem

      Yes, the way that the land is around there, the flume would have been built on that as a foundation

    • @stevecharman8420
      @stevecharman8420 Před měsícem

      Actually, at least in Central Victoria, flumes (sometimes called flumings) certainly transported water for domestic, mining and agricultural purposes. Usually they carried water across depressions and gullies as part of much longer channel systems but flumes also carried water along embankments when the ground couldn't be excavated to create an open channel. Along some channels, metal piping on wooden trestle bridges carried the water, but along the Coliban Main Channel, between Malmsbury and Bendigo, of the 16 flumes constructed, all were wooden troughs perched on timber supports placed on granite piers. There's plenty of historic photos of them on the Victorian State Library website.

    • @PlasticAssasin8
      @PlasticAssasin8 Před měsícem

      @@stevecharman8420 Thanks for stopping by. There was 150 miles of water race along the river and all over the area. However there aren't a lot of places where channels are dug in to form the race. Only places there are channels in the area is where they diverted water from the flume or troughs and went down in another direction. Flume, aqueduct, trough. There is a bit of crossover with each one. They built up from the river and 90 percent of what Ive found is flat which points to a flume, aqueduct, or trough running on it and i suspect they diverted the whole river in some points other than the tunnel to work the bedrock. I appreciate you checking it out.👍

Now I'm interested in seeing what is hidden in the bush out there as well, seeing the old history Like the video before it where i found the old track. So my way of thinking is that "every decent" ridge line has to have an old track on it. I am going to find out. • @PlasticAssasin8
      @PlasticAssasin8 Před 7 měsíci

      I think they put the ribbons in to link up with the gully. The gully is part of the Watties gully loop that starts from Loh's lane so i guess they marked it to make a smaller loop that connects up to Hogans track. I'm intending on putting in some ribbons to link what i did up with the grass tree track on the Hogans track side of the gully in there at some stage. That will be a nice walk.

      @mattsaint8226 I wasn't sure who or why. They have been there a long time as some are very faded. That would be crazy to try and run. Dudes are crazy, total respect for them. Left or right where I ended up losing them is part of a route. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it.

      Its a pleasure to share it. Its a lovely track, really enjoyable to walk along and would be a great one to walk back on rather than going back along the main access track and its part of a great loop either a long loop or shorter one. One of those little gems you sometimes find and the smell of it is amazing in the right weather. Possibly some sneaky spots to camp, although some is along a ridge line and its covered in rocks. I did a few detours to have a look and most of it is rocky. Its a great area to explore.

      Its a pleasure. That's why Im doing this stuff, to show what is off the radar a bit. When i started in April i took a gamble of where to go. If people know what to expect they will be more likely to give it a try. It's the first time id set it up. I knew that area was there from the previous trip so i figured why not. The is a couple of better spots to the left/ Nth but no water. The road, arggh its a painful walk along the road to there, the tracks are much nicer to walk along.

    • @PlasticAssasin8
      @PlasticAssasin8 Před 9 měsíci

      I possibly will be doing one around there but i have a bit more organising to do before i make a decision on that one. I still have a few things to get first before i do an overnighter, no big deal though. (actually just ordered 1 of them) I looked everywhere for info on walking around the Mt Blackwood side and all that was out there was short little what i call, "look at me" videos with loud music and not much substance. So after my second walk i decided to document them, maybe to help someone. I have about 6 - 8 more videos at least to do in the Mt Blackwood and Pyrete range area, i haven't even been to the Antimony mine site yet and Ive been out there 5 times. What is really nice is that some people have gone out there because of a couple of these videos, both beginners and experienced.

    • @PlasticAssasin8
      @PlasticAssasin8 Před 10 měsíci

      My pleasure. That's the aim of what I'm trying to do with these videos. Some reviews and videos ive seen either say its too hard or there isn't any info worth anything. Its a bit "off track" in a way unless you use the road shortcut/alternative i added. I went back the week after to explore and confirm that part after i saw it on the satellite maps. The only hard part really is the creek, oh and the hill before the turn off to head down to the creek from the fence line. The creek is another story. You need a lot of time and something to protect you from snakes like snake gaiters or snake boots, which Im looking at. I tried to stay out of the water and that's really the hard way of doing in. Took me almost 3 hours to get 1-2 km up the creek out of the water. But 45 minutes to get back in the water and only going on the bank when the water was too deep. Its a great walk even if you go to the creek , hop over it and have something to eat, there is a clearing there which has a HUUUGE wombat hole there.. Thanks heaps for watching😀
