I think valuing the revpoint at 1p is better if you're an avid traveller as you can often get 1p of value per avios. I'm curious about the 2p per rev point on stays though. In theory it would actually make using stays worth using! Usually I find the hotels are more expensive than if I book directly or google search.
are these cards suitable for college student?❤
Is my calculation correct if 1 Avios point = 0.05 pence if I spent £6000 I get £300 worth of Revolut points / Avois points. Did I use the right pence value or is it 0.005 pence = £30 worth of avois after spending £6000. I hope you can help thanks!
If you assume that 1 Avios = £0.005 (i.e. half a pence), which is exactly the value you get if you spend Avios via Nectar, then spending £6000 will get you £30 worth of Avios (assuming Revolut gives you 1 point / £ spent). This is equivalent to 0.5% cashback. Hope this helps!
@@LoyaltyLlama Thanks so much! That really helped me.
£15 for lounge pass? Everytime I go is £24
Hi! I just meant £15 as the value I put on a lounge pass (i.e. if I had to pay for them, I wouldn't buy one for more than £15). But may be nowadays that's too conservative.
Agree with almost everything you say here, bar one thing: my experience of CW service has been that it can't be faulted and is, therefore, extremely difficult to improve upon. So, as you concluded, the difference between the two is very small. I think what you're really paying for might just be the exclusivity and privacy. Happy to say I now have four GUFs which I'll use next year to do this upgrade for a minimal charge.
I do like BA's CW but wouldn't go as far as saying it can't be faulted. I guess it very much depends on your bar / expectations for this product. E.g. on the one hand, you could say that not offering dine on demand is a fault. On the other hand, you could say that dine on demand shouldn't even be expected of a business class product. Anyway, congrats on the vouchers and enjoy the upgrades!
You really should stop using a fisheye lens for your recordings lol
Hm, is it that visible? I don't use a separate lens but I do record at 0.5 zoom on my phone.
IMHO - there's an aspect of bribe's/cashbacks feeling dishonest at some level.... Its changing of course - but its a different market to the U.S. Credit cards already have a fee - interest. Paying for them too - doesn't make a huge amount of sense.
To be fair, interest is the fee for borrowing money. You don't have to pay it if you pay off your card on time every month (which ideally should be the case since interest rates on most cards are ridiculous) While the annual fee is what you pay on cards that offer (substantial) benefits on top of just the basics.
Americans don't pay their bills, so pay way more interest. Companies can afford higher rewards with all this revenue.
Interest angle. But I suppose more credit card debt also represents higher risks for lenders of losing money when people don't pay.
Frustrating as the gold card in USA allows you 4x spending etc UK its 1 to 1.5.
To be fair, Gold card in the UK does have a 2x multiplier on airlines and 3x on Amex Travel (+0.5 point/£ as earn as you go bonus)
“So much behind” doesn’t sound right in English, because much refers to quantity, rather than distance. You should retitle it to “so far behind”, it will make much more sense. 🙏 👍
No one cares
I like it! It also makes the video title a tiny bit shorter. Thanks, updated!
Can you do a video on the best options within europe? For credit card and travel rewards.
Seems to be only revolute ultra right?
Do you mean best UK cards for using during a trip to Europe? Yeah, Revolut Ultra and Chase debit card are the best ones that come to mind simply because most other cards charge 3% foreign transaction fee.
Hiya mate, i was more referring to what is the best available for Europeans. I was trying to decide what my options are to try get the most out of my spending. I went for ULTRA seems to be the only half decent rewards card.@@LoyaltyLlama
I have actually seen a targeted welcome bonus in the UK via browser cookies. For me it offered 25k MR Points for the Gold and an extra £10 cashback on the free Cashback card. It also came with a warning that it might disappear when I click off the website and to not rush any decisions when taking out credit. That offer has since disappeared, wasn't that generous anyways!
Hm, when was that? Asking cause Amex runs the 25K promotion on the Gold card every now and then (I think the last one ended at some point in June / July)
@@LoyaltyLlama This was a couple of weeks ago. That was the first time I've ever seen anything like this before in the UK. It wasn't the boosted welcome bonus that they do ever so often. The Everyday Cashback Card was doing (and still is) the boosted bonus to £125 for the first 5 months. It offered me an additional £10 cashback on top of that. What was even more interesting was that it had this targetted offer on my phone when looking at the website too.
@@LoyaltyLlama I've managed to find a screenshot of it on Google. It's an older screenshot from 2022 and much more generous targetted offer. But same cookie message remains. insideflyer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Screenshot-2022-07-03-22.35.51.png

Get to the point
I just wanted to point out that the Lloyds and Santander World Elite cards don't include travel insurance - though with Santander you can purchase discounted insurance by having that card. With HSBC, travel insurance comes with being a Premier customer, you don't need to pay for the credit card.
I’ve got around 80,000 points, do you think it’s better for me to convert them? Or save them
It may be better to spend them sooner rather than later! As with any currency, points are prone to devaluation. And wow, you already managed to rack up 80K Revolut points?
Do you need to make 2 deliveroo orders to get the cashback or is one fine?
Have to be 2 transactions to use full cashback (you'll get £5 back per transaction)

Hi . I just wanted to get your thoughts on Velocity Banking. Would it work in the UK with UK credit cards? I am up to my eyeballs in debt and have a poor credit rating. Keep up the great work ..i'm just going to subscribe!! Best wishes
I don't like Finnair on long haul flights. Business is quite expensive out of HEL and with the new seats it is almost impossible to find a comfortable position for good back support, as you also mentioned. If you want lounge access and checked luggage you will have to pay a premium price. However, despite being an expensive airline, the food selection is very limited, which is in my opinion a big problem, considering the fact that the Asian market is for Finnair very important and the competition is very tough. So, in conclusion, for me is a BIG no.
I have a question. You mentioned that you have both the Amex gold and platinum. I thought you aren’t able to get the welcome bonus if you have had an Amex within the past 2 years?
That's correct, I didn't get any bonus for Amex Gold because I already had the Platinum card at the time.
@@LoyaltyLlama Okay thank you! Do you think in my case, it would be worth cancelling my regular BA amex and waiting 2 years before getting the gold or just going for it?
You could try to calculate (at least roughly) how much value the BA card would give you in the next 2 years (e.g. in Avios, vouchers) and weigh that up against the potential welcome bonus that the Gold card could give you in 2 years. Also factor in whether or not you'd get an alternative non-Amex card for these 2 years.
@LoyaltyLlama do you still own the gold and the platinum? Also you did say you got the plat card and received 85k bonus after cancellation of HSBC then you also say you got 70k for the platinum card with 200 pounds travel spend. How did you get the platinum bonus 2 times ??
@@gdotmoney96 I closed the Gold card, currently have the Platinum and BAPP. Hm, do I say I got 85K bonus (sorry, don't remember where exactly this could have been in the video)? The bonus I got on the Platinum is 70K + £200.
Thanks for the report! I like Finnair's new Business cabin, though I've only tried the new seat on short haul, they use their A350/A330 to LHR AMS and MUC, too. I like the smart "Nordic chic" design in the cabins and also at the airport. The "icy" glassware they use in Business Class was first designed in 1968. Yes sometimes you find really good long haul deals on Finnair, if you are flexible with routings. I once booked BUD-HEL-BKK-ARN to catch the best price in Business to Thailand from Europe that time.
Thanks for all the info! And yeah, BUD is usually a great starting place for cheap fares.
Nice video, I’ve flown this business class once and I really liked it. Front row has some extra leg room which is nice. One correction also, the provided headphones do have ANC, which you can turn on by flicking the switch on the left earcup, visible at @5:36
Ah, wow, thanks for the tip with the headphones! Will pin your comment so that more people can see it.
Nice video 👍
Thank you!
Thanks for the video <3 and greetings from Finland
Thank you!
NEW? LOL this is now 2+ years old.. :) Not sure what you mean by "OneWorld elite" as such status does not exists :P
New as in “the newest seat the airline currently has” OneWorld elite as a shorter way of saying “members of all OW frequent flyer program that have any status above the basic one”. Same as saying “premium cabins” instead of business class and first class.
@@LoyaltyLlama If you plan to grow your channel I would strongly suggest you take feedback more seriously, there is no such concept as OW Elite - Its just dumb as ST already uses that concept (Elite and Elite Plus)
@@studioxxswe can you be a little more polite? I am sure he appreciates constructive feedback, but this is downright rude.
@@studioxxswe If you plan to have people take your opinions seriously, I would strongly suggest to you not to be so rude. OneWorld elite status (Emerald, Sapphire) does exist. I hold a BA gold card and understand that. These Finnair seats are the latest they have, so everyone other than a tiresome pedant would have understood what he meant by 'new' too. I'm flying in that seat for the first time shortly and consider it to be new too. Thanks for a very informative report, LoyaltyLlama, you have a new subscriber. I'll be flying Finnair business class return to Bangkok soon, although I don't fancy that early departure out of Bangkok!
@@derekbryce2632 thanks for your very nonsense reply. I have been OW Sapphire from QR PLAT for 7 years and I never refer to it as "Elite"; have been *A Gold for over 20 year and don't refer to it as *A Elite - But I will refer my Sky Team Elite Plus status as Elite.
I don’t think what you said about the connecting flight is correct. If you have a connection at Helsinki, but you do not use the last, the airline may penalise you as far as I know. I came across some news about Lufthansa where they sued some passengers for not travelling on the last leg of the booked itinerary.
I’m now very curious to look up the Lufthansa thing to see how it turned out. Thanks for the callout!
@@LoyaltyLlama it can be dodgy as far as the airlines are concerned and will only work if travelling with carry on baggage.
Just found your channel. I was searching for Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy, as we'll be flying LAX to LHR next month. Our return flight will be LHR to JFK on Delta. How did Delta Premium compare to VA? Thanks for posting your review!
Hey! I enjoyed VA's product more than Delta in terms of food and service, while seats are comparable / deliver the same level of comfort. Having said that, Delta wasn't bad, VA's PE just seemed to be quite above average (at least in my experience). Lmk how your flights go! In the meantime, I'll post the video from my return flight with Delta.

Thank you for helping me solidify my decision to get the barclaycard forward as my first credit card. How long did you have this card before upgrading to barclaycard avios? And how long after getting your first card were you able to get your first Amex card?
I got my first Amex around six months after Barclaycard Forward (March -> August of 2019). Please note there's no officially recommended/guaranteed timeline here so your mileage may vary. And don't forget to do your own research before picking the best card for yourself! Barclaycard Avios I got a couple of years later since it didn't exist at the time.
Hi, Thank you for providing the information. I am currently looking to build my credit score to qualify for a property purchase. Despite having a salary of £27,500, my applications for M&S, Barclaycard, and Tesco Bank have been declined. Could you please provide guidance on how I can improve my credit score and increase my eligibility for credit cards? Thank you very much for your assistance. Best regards, Iman
Thanks, indeed valuable tips! I have earned 660 avios points from survey! I have watched your other videos, great content and thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience 😊
Nice!
Hey nice video! For the tier 1 card, it said to apply for it yoy must have lived in a uk adress for 2 years, but you mentioned you applied for is 6 months after reaching the UK. How did you do this?
Hey! This must have changed at some point. There was no such condition when I applied for the Barclaycard back in 2019. Have you tried checking at other credit builder cards?
@LoyaltyLlama I have, unfortunately it requires you to be living in the UK for a couple of years before. I personally dont have an issue as I'm in the UK rn but don't plan on getting a credit card until I'm done with uni, so I'll already be in the UK for a few years when I apply
Depends on if it’s your first card too right? I’ve seen that you can still get welcome bonus if you start with gold and then moved to BAPP card. But can’t do this vice versa
Correct. BAPP (and also the Platinum card) have the advantage of not restricting your welcome bonus eligibility for cards that earn a different reward currency.
Have you heard you can start with Alex gold and get the welcome bonus and still get the welcome bonus with The BA plus when you switch?
Which Barclaycard avios do you have? The free or fee one?
The free one. I just use it in places that don't take Amex.
@@LoyaltyLlama I saw the video. Get the bonus and then downgrade to the free one. Also I’m thinking of using Amex gold and barclaycard avios. This would be on top of my chase debit card and if needed and when needed a 0% purchase card. This I think would be a good strategy for me. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations for me?
I never knew about the e store! Game changer
Glad you learned something new!
What type of 787 variant was it?
I believe it was a 787-10
You forgot to mention a major value driver for this card - Amex offers that routinely allow you to save multiples of the annual fee with various retailers across the UK, as well as major airlines and hotel chains. I routinely get offers like “spend £300 to get £100 back” on marriott, Hilton, IHG and other chains. Additionally, one of those offers is “Amex dining” that gives you 10-20% off hundreds of restaurants across the UK and abroad.
I agree that you can get this can deliver good value but this benefit is not specific to the Gold card. I get similar offers on the Platinum and BAPP.
Are the bonus 20000 points (for £2000 spend in first 3 months) in addition to the standard 2 points per £1 spend? In other words, you'd accrue 20000 + 4000 = 24000 nectar points after 3 months, if you spent £2000?
Yes, the welcome bonus is in addition to the ongoing earning rate. However, iirc, you earn 1 point / £ on that card, not 2
Who spends £10 in an airport on food wtf
Is that too much or too little?
I am on the Metal plan, as I spend a lot of time outside the EEU, and it really saves me tons of FX fees. I received an email from Revolut talking about RevPoints. One of the things said in the email is this: "We’ve replaced cashback with a new points programme offering 1 point per €2 spent on your Revolut card as a Metal customer. Then, when you’re ready to convert them, get 1 air mile for every point. Or for discounts on holiday accommodation, you could, for example, exchange 10,000 points for up to €200 off your dream Stay." I just checked, and I am still receiving cashback for my card payments. As they are outside of the EEU, they're 1%, although there is a monthly cap equivalent to the price of the subscription, which is €18.99 in my case. I'm just wondering if I join the RevPoints program, will I lose my cashback earning abilities? Because that seems a lot more attractive to me right now.
BA is good in everything except food!
Haha, idk, I feel like food generally is on par with the rest of their service.
I have an Amex Platinum card and lounge access these cards offer is useless. Out of the 6 or 7 times I've tried to access a lounge, I've only managed to get in once. Save your money and don't bother if this is what you're after. They are a scam that you'll be very lucky to redeem.
Does that work in Ireland?🇮🇪
Hi there, sorry just a quick question... to use the flight lounge, do I need to have my flight with the company or even flying with a different company I can use the lounge having Amex ? thank you!
If you get the Amex Gold, this also gives you a Priority Pass card which arrives in the mail a bit later (or you can get a digital version right away). You can use this to enter Priority Pass lounges regardless of which airline you're flying with. The first 4 visits every membership year are free.
