It’s because men feel like they don’t need to be adults and expect the woman to take care of cleaning, cooking, planning, their health, the children etc. Once the replacement mother is gone, the man child is lost and does worse. Women do better when their partner dies because suddenly they’re free to do whatever they want and have one less child to worry about. The only issue they have might be financial, but they can go to work and be somewhat fine. It’s also completely accepted as a woman to ask for help.
