RAF Police Crime Prevention Bklt 1970, Far East Air Force, Singapore
Something different this time. Not the usual vintage edition of Provost Parade, the journal of the Royal Air Force Police, but a booklet produced by Forces Publications in Singapore for HQ FEAF at RAF Changi.
At first glance the sheer quantity of adverts might suggest it was simply a wheeze to fatten the Mess Fund but the advice it offers is a timely reminder of simple steps everyone can take to prevent crime. Also, I notice that small family owned businesses like those in Changi Village were given free advertising space.
The letter that is collated into the booklet near the front suggests this copy was one of a batch destined for the Royal Australian Air Force at Butterworth Air Base, Malaysia.

Looks can be deceiving, because not one single body part of the North American First Gen Escort (1981 - 1990) was the same as our Escort Mk 3. In spite of being dubbed Ford's World Car the only things they shared was an engine and gearbox. However, on both sides of the Pond the car sold predictably well, it being a replacement for the Pinto Stateside.

They're all here, those wild little troublemakers - Billy, Dolly, Jeffy, PJ the baby and Barfy the dog - along with tormented, long suffering Mommy and Daddy. For some reason this popular newspaper cartoon didn't make it on this side of the Pond. This book was the first compilation and I discovered it in the PX in West Berlin in 1973. Part 2 to follow.

The all-new, Fox based, seventh gen Continental was a foot and a half shorter than the previous model. It had a style that was reminiscent of the Versailles which had ceased production two years earlier. As a mid-size sedan it was intended to compete with Cadillac's Seville. The bustle-back trunk design is a Marmite feature if ever there was one.

These old cartoons drawn for CR mag by Gray Jolliffe were absolute gems. Today they are completely off the radar so I intend to post any that come my way to give them a second airing. They hark back to a simple time when advertising benefited from creative minds unencumbered by self imposed political correctness and constraints on humour.

Someone once said "You're better off in a Buick" and considering the marque has almost always been the most reliable US domestic car brand it is difficult to find a flaw in that remark. Actually, there are an awful lot of people who care about the last Beverley not least Martyn Wiseman and Georg Von der Muehll who saved the last example, serial XB259, from the scrapyard in 2020. Sadly their funds have stretched only as far as dismantling the airframe for transportation from Fort Paull where it was on display. You can see it in slide 5, all laid out on the grass. UPDATE: Martyn Wiseman has offered the plane to Solway Aviation Museum at Carlisle Airport who are trying to scrape together 60 Grand to transport the airframe sections up there. Dig into your pockets, folks, this is probably the Beverley's last chance saloon!
This reminds me of an exchange exercise with the yanks a year or so earlier. I was A Coy 4 RGJ, Fort McCoy Wisconsin, Happy days.
I should say. Blimey!
It's funny how you chance across a slide show such as yours and it triggers memories. If I recall correctly, the company sent to the states was made up of platoons from across the battalion, I was asked because I was Milan platoon 😄🤔

Mit der Kamera nur in die Seitenstraßen und man hätte das verrottende Ostberlin gesehen.
Coming from the UK back in the 70's, we thought that West Germany was tidy, with little or no litter on the ground. It also seemed to have a higher standard of living, which to me seemed a bit galling, all things considered!

As someone who once drove a 1989 Crown Victoria LX, I'd say it's one of the best experiences of my life, and they are tough V8 cars.
I once owned an 84 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park LS. I would describe it as 95% Ford Country Squire, 5% Lincoln. It was such a practical car. I look back and all I can remember is driving around with fridges and washing machines in the back belonging to all my mates. Apart from the Christmas tree each year I never used the cargo space!
