    Instead of using electrical tape, slide a five inch length of electrical heat-shrink over the rope before tying. Then slide it down over the end tag. Then poor some boiling water over it. It's a neater way of doing it. Maybe even do the tape then finish it off with heat-shrink.

    I live in the most historical site in America and have access to some really exclusive waters. Already found multiple objects from the 1700s, and was with a buddy that found an anchor from Pre-Civil War era which was given to a museum. You can find the article somewhere, found in Suffolk Virginia. And this video STILL HELPED me, thanks for the great tips. I hope my finds are increased and I find some more cool stuff.

    Questions? 1) the best rope to use? and 2) best Length to use?

    • @magnethounds8683
      @magnethounds8683 Před 11 měsíci

      Lot's of answers to these questions, but I like to use a polypropylene rope that has a tensile strength a little above the magnet I'm using. So if I'm using a 500lb pull-strength magnet, I am using at least a 600 pound tensile strength polypropylene rope. In regards to length I'm using a minimum 65ft in length. That allows enough length for multiple locations off bridges, docks, etc. Of course increase that based on the location you are at.

  • @taurushipointenthusiast1306
    @taurushipointenthusiast1306 Před 11 měsíci

    Ok OK I thought the Idea was wacko, Now I went ahead and tried it, to prove to myself that it was nuts. WOW!!! I have got to say huge difference, I can just hook the carabiner to say canoe, wrap one time at waist clip, eye hook on truck OK OK SOLD I gotta admit the way I was initially taught WRONG!!, well I am snagging a lot less and if it is a single magnet more contact with out the carabiner in the way!! the positives out weight the carabiner if it makes any sense

    • @magnethounds8683
      @magnethounds8683 Před 11 měsíci

      Carabiners can be extremely weak if you don't get a good one. Just trying to help out the folks just starting out in magnet fishing and to help them avoid losing their magnet. I used to use the carabiner on the magnet eyelet and numerous times I have snagged and once busted the carabiner using come-a-long. After I switched, never had the rope break and decreased snagging. Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks for the information. I just received my first magnet that has the ability to screw the eyelet into the round side as well as the flat side. Which side would you recommend? Thanks

    • @magnethounds8683
      @magnethounds8683 Před rokem

      Absolutely, glad it helped! In regards to what side to screw the eyelet into the magnet, it really depends on the type of magnet fishing you are doing. If you are magnet fishing around a dock, pier, off a bridge or dropping in an old well (my favorite) than you want to screw the eyelet into the top of the magnet as you will be doing the drop method (just dropping the magnet off the side of the dock or bridge, etc. and pulling straight up. Screwing the eyelet on top of the magnet and doing the drop method will give you the most pull strength. If you are magnet fishing in a river or just want to throw out the magnet and drag the bottom of the lake, pond, etc. than go ahead and screw the eyelet into the side of the magnet. This will allow the magnet to lay flat as you drag it across the bottom. Either way, make sure to use locktite on that eyelet! Enjoy!

    • @magnethounds8683

      Sure, give it a try. The most important is eliminating anything under the water that can snag your magnet, so zip ties could work great.

    Carabiner is better

    • @magnethounds8683
      @magnethounds8683 Před rokem

      Respectfully disagree. A strong knot is the way to go, plus if you get a cheap carabiner its going to bend. Plus, once you get snagged on a tree branch under water through that carabiner and you are walking across the lake to find an angle to get it undone and backing up your truck to try and use force to pull it out just to you lose your magnet, you would of wish you used a knot.

    • @lecobra418
      @lecobra418 Před rokem

      I guess 3600(LBS I presume) stands for 1600kg, so a Barbarian magnet, I would suggest at least a 10mm (0.40") rope, concerning the knot, why would you take a chance to lose a good magnet with a bad knot? Go for a double bowline, secure the lose end, if possible obturate the eyelet and enjoy your magnet!
