I remember watching life with my dad when I was little and he explained it all to me about it being a true story etc and when we learned about it at school and watched it i already knew about it all up and down but didnt in any way comprehend how catastrophic and hellish it must have been for the people on board great example of the huge struggle to survive people have and the courage and fight they had to not give up hope they would be rescued god bless these people must have been an impossible choice to make to survive on the dead thats about as desperate as it gets ❤

Journalists, reporters should have shown more understanding by not asking them what did they eat. It was pathetic on the part of those a-hole ignorant reporters who asked them that. You could see from both, their faces. They were never cannibals. Not eating meat doesn't make someone dignified or cultured.

Based on the comments I have read, I was shocked to know that these people were judged by some people because they ate the bodies of their friends to survive. I am disgustingly ashamed to read all those comments! Their stories should not be focused on cannibalism but on their courage, will to survive, faith and immense strength. I cannot believe that aside from the trauma they have to endure after surviving, they had to face the public scrutiny. Shame on the people who judged them. We will never know the pain and disgust of every bite that they had to take just to survive. We will never understand. Only they knew.

2024 anyone ?

Every 4-5 years I come back to this documentary, it is such an inspirational story of what a human can overcome if they mentally are strong. Obviously these men were in their physical prime which helped as well. Most people under these conditions would give into death. I remember being a kid and seeing the movie Alive and being in awe and obviously disturbed that they had to do the unthinkable to survive. So much respect for Nando and Roberto for doing what they did. They persevered in deadly conditions, after months without food. 1:07:08 This is what people don't understand. We always need more. Yet, we don't need more than the basics to be happy. It is all in our heads and heart that an item or something externally will make us happy. I'll never know how Nando must felt having lost his mom and sister on the flight.

Nando is so right! It is TOTALLY different eating a being that died of unavoidable causes, from eating any being that was murdered so to become food. The first one doesn’t involve violence.

This story had fascinated me since day one.

There is no way I would ever resort to cannibalism. “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind”. (Genesis 9:6). It is against God's way. Respect to those that resisted the urge. And for those that partook of human flesh, God will judge you.

Here after watching the Society of the Snow on Netflix 2024. An amazing story of human endurance and resilience.

I finally got around to watching this and I'm in total awe all over again. Despite having already extensively read and seen so much about this harrowing story, I'm astounded to still be learning that it was EVEN WORSE than I previously thought. Just 99 kinds of incredible. I'd vote for this as one of the very top most amazing true stories of all time. There truly seems to be no bounds to the strength of the human spirit.

I watched the movie "Alive" when I was a kid. I was questioning why the rescue team could not spot the crashed plane for more than 70 days. I was questioning why there has been too many plane crashes in Latin American nations. But what I understood is that if they were forced to stay that way, the only thing they could survive was off the human flesh. I am truly thankful that these survivors continue to tell the story of their survival.
