I just watched William Bendix in The Time Element by Rod Serling that acted as a catalyst for The Twilight Zone. He was totally serious and rocked the part. I had heard his name growing up but that was it, and IMDB showed he was in this show, which my Mom, who grew up in the 50s talked about all the time, so I am checking it out, Boy do people look a lot different now than then. The men's faces were so angular and stone like with deep lines, and now they are rounder and more feminine and have the low testosterone to match too. Half way through this show now, and so far, I like him in his drama role better, but he is fine here. What a bunch of familiar faces from olden days tv in this episode.

This really should have sold. That way the critics would have an 'Island' to hate worse than Gilligan's!

Off the reservation with this episode - in more ways than one. Interesting that it was the final episode of the series. No Sheriff Mitch, no Clipper, and no Chubby. I guess they had already laid those regulars off.

The Soviets in the Gulag's thought they could just write Stalin and tell him how horrible the Gulag's were that Stalin would stop the brutality that was going on. Then this women writes the U.S. president to get things moving at immigration that's every bit as dumb as the Soviets thinking just write Stalin....lol

The Cessna T-50 was used in the earlier episodes. It was designed in the 1930s along with the military versions AT-17 and the UT-78 . 5422 were produced. In later episodes, Sky King moved to the newer Cessna 310

If the stamp of authorship reads "Rod Serling" then you can be certain that the TV script comes with the highest quality of writing. The Loner, a brilliant and exceptional and very different type of western series, was eventually canceled because later on the new network powers decided that they wanted to go back to the same old mundane western stereotype -- violence, stage coaches being chased down, horses and cows running wild, shootouts galore, barnyards on fire, and so on. In short, the network people did not want quality writing, no, they wanted drama productions that consisted of all noise and no depth. My understanding is that Rod Serling did not go along with this sudden and new direction that he was told to follow. Rod tried to bring characterization and plot and story line to the The Loner. And Rod succeeded until he was stopped. The network powers over-ruled Rod and destroyed Rod's plan to elevate the TV western. The "powers that be" did not care about quality writing. In my opinion, they did not care for originality, hence, The Loner was eventually canceled. Long live the great Rod Serling and the vision that he had for television. Rod Serling -- what a masterful writer and wholesome human being!

What a good program!! Is this the only episode that was ever made or are there any other ones to view? Wish it had been a regular program and not just a pilot. Fine acting by all. Wonder why it didn't make it past just a pilot TV show?

What?! It was the "colonies" led by criminals who didn't negotiate shipping taxes on their products with the English. They armed and waged a criminal war against them and have continued to do so with country after country since then. The U.S abhors negotiation , vetos useful proceedures in the U.N, has engaged in mass murder in the recent phony wars and acts like a childish whiny sociopath when the truth is pointed out.

Loved this show when I was a kid! All these years later, the memories are renewed of those long-ago days of childhood, and still, "Sky King" soars along with the BEST television series ever! I am still a big fan...even have a large model of the Cessna 'Songbird' ( Sky's second aircraft) on display in my home!

The Whirlybirds, The Flying Doctor and Sky King (brought to you by NABISCO) shaped my life. Pilot for 55 years.
