It's the same in the US, used Range Rovers are cheap and very expensive to repair. They are not even as trong as those older models that are now classic. The newer models are huge headaches unless you know how to work on cars. Once the maufacturer's warranty expires the owner becomes a mechanic's 'cash cow' that's when people generally get rid of them. Go and check their prices at the auction they are very cheap. I would rather buy a used 450 GL, or 550 GL instead of a used Range Rover, even a used Ford Explorer is better than a used Range Rover in terms of maintainance costs and availability of spare parts; in fact, Ford Explorer gives you comparable comfort as a Range Rover. Somebody has spoken about how China started and today, they are threatening EV ( electric vehicles) market shares in North America and Western Europe with quality EVs !. Although Tesla is still the world leader but NIO & BYD ( china) are dropping some seriously competitive electric cars and reducing Tesla market share. So much so that govts in these climes are imposing higher tariffs on EVs to protect their markets. Moral of the story, let us learn to appreciate our own and sell our brands and businesses. E nor easy to do ANY business in Naija. Even the govt in most cases discourages with policies , utterance, and decisions. ' Big boy' dangote with his clout is 'almost' rueing his decision of investing 19 billion dollars in Nigeria. Ask Dr. Onyema of Air Peace, too. Just to mention a few. In Western world there are too many things that give them almost unfair advantage compared to IVM or NORD: greater access to funds, govt deliberate policies, transferred innovations, etc, . That reduces their costs while adding great value at the same time. Take design for instance, there are studios from New York to Milan that they can outsource to. Ask Hyundai how long & how much it took to get to where Genesis , Kia ( thier subsidiaries)and Hyundai to bcom serious competitors today. They have their own steel coy and shipping line, and in house designers. At huge costs, South Korean govt support. So let us celebrate IVM , Nord and others & celebrate their strengths, not dwelling too much on weaknesses. By the way, they are not where they use to be 5 years back,build quality, available tech are mostly now world standard. Just saying. Lastly rebranding does not salways suggest inferiority. Its can also be a learning curves for partners.
