My dad was one of the first 20 deployed there with the United states Airforce red horse (combat engineers) they are never mentioned in the movie to my knowledge or the wiki page but he told me all about how he saw the first blackhawk go down he was there from the time the marines showed up to the time they all left the only thing I remember of the conversation we had was how he said the news was all around them and that whoever was in charge of the marines out there threatened to shoot them and I dont know just felt like its worth mentioning God bless all that have and ever will serve this country

Even within our own military services members were making fun of the losses...this was the Transportation Corps soldiers...I had just changed my job from Infantry to Transportation...had to listen to people saying that "the Rangers got their asses kicked." I didn't realize at the time that they were trying to offend me. I never understood that, because there were an estimated 1000 Somali's killed versus something like 18 US servicemen. Yeah, there are scum within the armed forces.
