This DIY construction of video of the larger Sevtec hovercraft contains footage shot mostly in the 1990's. Useful scenes of construction of these remarkable hovercraft and their builders. Also shown is a 1400 mile trip to Alaska from Seattle up the inside passage along the coast of North America though Canadian to Alaska.

This craft was originally propane powered for water reservoir studies. It now is headed to Alaska for remote river access. A complete cabin enclosure, glass windshield with wipers were added. A stainless exhaust heater system keeps the craft warm. The new urethane skirt will last for many years.
Vanguard/Surveyor Assembly

While a Vanguard is shown being assembled, it is so similar to Surveyor that this video is usable for Surveyor, also. Surveyor two engine assembly is shown toward the end of the video. "It's No Trick to Build a Sevtec Sev" is recommended along with this video to build Vanguard or Surveyor.

A Scout hovercraft is taken through construction of the fiberglass parts, skirt, and metal work. The craft is assembled and initial runs are shown. Fiberglass parts construction is particularly emphasized in this video, and it is recommended viewing for builders involved with all Sevtec designs, as well as Scout. A basic skirt trimming procedure is also shown in this video.

This hovercraft film was first created by Barry Palmer in about 1995. It contains footage from his early 1965 hovercraft, and various others up to 1995. Included is 8mm film of the first ultralight trike and Mr. Palmer's early hand gliding experiments.

Bryan, Thank you for posting these videos...... What took you so long to do this? Sevtec needs a bigger CZcams presence. The Sevtec design is the best out there for bigger waves. I realized this the minute I got into heavy chop with my UH design. Thanks again for the videos.
I turns out I can't design new craft, build, buy materials, hire people and do SEV videos all at once.

Hi Bryan..... I purchased Mariner and Explorer plans in 2013. I'm currently considering building the Explorer. Have the plans been substantially revised for the Mariner/Explorer since 2013?. Regards Craig
No, but I have updated the drive parts, foam and resin I supply.
Nice vid! Ever have any issues with the reduction drives with those bearings?
No. I do find pillow blocks are easier to disassembled at the bench, but it adds cost and complexity.

I found the best way to lift my hovercraft without the engine going is using a air bag lift. Like they use to get 4WD's out of the bog etc.

I'll assume this is a serious question, yes. It is very flat bottomed and stable with significant free board.

The book hovercraft & hydrofoils showed 1 peripheral air jet being circulated & recirculated by multiple fans keeping the air under the craft longer before it escaped. Also, the hovercraft encyclopedia is a priceless gem of information!
This is not a peripheral jet, which does not work too well, even analytically. The forward two side by side compartments of the Sevtec design worked so well that the forward compartments were reduced to a single compartment.
I get the concept of 1&2 air cushion compartments. Where is the 3rd?
The front is divided longitudinally.

The trainee was running at a high throttle setting while moving very slowly, this caused the skirt to bounce on the smooth ice.
