    I'm 79 and bought a Harley Pan América when they first came out and rode it on and off road for a year. The bike was a monster and I enjoyed every minute riding it. The electronic rider aids really take care of you. But I sold it anyway and am shifting my adventures to sailing, because I realized I'm no longer physically able to take full advantage of the capability of the bike, and felt that that could lead me into a bad situation. Oh, and also because my riding buddies drink too much (and when I'm with them, so do I) and sooner or later that would bite me in the ass .

    I have what I consider a "Schuberth head", and my take is that the internal shape of the helmet is ever so slightly different from a Shoei that I can't get comfortable with a Shoei helmet. If Shoei generally fits you well, then that might be a reason that the Schuberth feels tight. I've worn Schuberth full face helmets for years, and the strap mechanism never bothered me, but I have the same issue with the strap seemingly being too far back with my C4 Pro. Makes me wonder if that is specific to the modular models. I actually ended up putting mine up on a shelf because my chin actually touches the inside of the chin bar and I don't feel particularly protected riding like that. Instead of ordering my C4 Pro online like you did with your C3 Pro, I should've gone to the nearest dealer to try one on, as ordering online proved to be an expensive way to save a 4h round trip in my case. Regarding your comments about the ventilation - I have found that across my multiple Schuberth helmets, they all felt like they had less air moving through the helmet when the ventilation was open. I suspect that is one of the reasons why these helmets are so quiet, but it doesn't make for a comfortable summer riding in the SE USA. I currently use an Arai full face if I don't need/want a modular helmet because it has great ventilation, but it's one of these helmets that requires the use of earplugs to protect what's left of my hearing.

    One of the things I've been doing now for a good few years when away on a longer trip is take my old phone (pop a pre-paid sim in it), sure they'll give you a few buck for it come upgrade time but you only need to skip this offer once. The next time you upgrade hand back the phone you kept last time and keep the phone you're upgrading from as your new second phone. This second phone is the one I use for all my photos and vids and as it's not your primary phone you don't need to be so precious about it, you can keep your primary phone safe and out of harm's way. The other big plus is if something should happen to your primary phone you have one with all your contacts in you can swap your sim into if it craps out or just use it with the pre-paid sim should you loose it.

    I have a Buell Ulysses and call it a mid size. My wife is shorter so lower seat height bikes appeal to her. I can't do super sport or sport position. I do understand arm chair position of Harley's. But like mid pegs to stand on. I need something that can go down 2 tracks and dirt roads. I drive a jeep no doors or top. Never had anything stolen but have had a lot of stuff left for me in the jeep.

    "This is my downsize kit, I used to carry 3 Go Pro's and a digital camera as well" "Now I just carry two Go Pro's and a 360' camera" 🤣 I'm just kidding I have a helmet mounted Drift Ghost S and Git Up2 Pro (I have a Go Pro 4 but I don't usually take that) and cannot believe the amount of 'stuff' you need to carry to 'support' such a simple set up. Doesn't matter how much you try to pare down, in my experience, if you are a 'what if' or a 'be prepared' kind of guy (which like me, I think you are) You'll always be carrying more than the next guy. Having just returned from a 22 day trip from PA to CA and return, your video makes me glad I’m not a CZcamsr! It is bad enough carrying two iPhones, two iPads, two Cardo PackTalks and the charger for them all. 😂 The main difference between your travel approach and mine is that I use credit cards for almost every purchase I can. One reason is to avoid the currency exchange hassle and cost, but the main reason is to have the record of our travel and being able to look back and see where we ate, bought gas, etc. I only pay cash when necessary or in restaurants that charge a big surcharge for credit card use - which is becoming far more common since covid. Enjoy your trip! My wife and I rode to Alaska in 2019, thankfully, before covid hit and I would like to go back, but probably won’t get the chance as too many other places we want to ride in both Europe and the USA. I’d really like to trailer my KLR to Alaska and spend a few weeks exploring the dirt road locations that aren’t as suitable for my K1200LT…

  • @LTVoyager
    @LTVoyager Před 3 dny

    Your packing regimen is very close to mine. I use LDComfort products also. I carry two sets and wash one set each evening and let it start to dry and alternate sets since in humid areas it takes more than 12 hours to dry. Alternating gives me a dry set each morning. A mesh riding jacket and pants and boots and gloves complete the riding gear, except for rain gear. I actually use the rain gear more for cold than for rain. I found that with a LDComfort shirt, mesh riding jacket and rain coat for a wind breaker, I can ride all day in 50 degree temps. Add my windbreaker over my t-shirt and I can ride quite some time down to 32 degrees. I try to avoid riding below freezing for obvious reasons. Having the rain gear serve double duty as cold weather gear, saves having to carry bulky thermal liners. My wife carries hers as she gets more wind than me, but I have never needed mine and we have ridden in temps as cold as 21 degrees while entering Yellowstone a few Septembers ago. For street clothes, I take 7 sets of socks, underwear, and t-shirts so I can do laundry every 6-7 days. I started packing Khaki pants rather than jeans as they are lighter and pack more tightly. I also take Khaki shorts for warmer days and a swim suit. I add one double-knit shirt if we decide to eat at a fancier restaurant some evening. I include a set of sneakers and a wind breaker and that completes the set. My swim suit does double duty as the separator between clean and dirty clothes. I fully unpack my bag each night of the clean clothes and then add that day’s dirty clothes. I then spread out my swim shorts as the separator on top of the dirty clothes and then repack my clean clothes on top. This method has worked well for me and makes it easy on laundry day as I just remove everything down to the swimsuit and take the bag to the laundry. My wife does much the same with her bag (we each get one saddlebag liner for clothes). We then use the top case bag for bulkier things like our shoes, windbreakers, thermal liners and our toiletries. Also, we carry our iPads and chargers in the top case. We have a bag that fits the rack on top of our top case and that carries our rain gear for ready access, the bike cover, air compressor and motorcycle jumper cables. I created foam cutouts for the bottom of both of my side cases that carry my tools in an organized way and sit under the side bag liners which helps keep the tools in place. Works well on a touring bike with two side cases, a top case and a top case rack. I also bought a tank bag early on, but found it not needed and often just got in the way of seeing the GPS and mounting and dismounting the bike. I haven’t used the tank bag in years and likely won’t use it again unless we find a need to carry something beyond our current set of gear.

Also suspected that the o-ring is not the correct one because the fit was not tight as in other bikes I had. Will follow your advice and avoid forcing the stealership to actually do some diagnostic work and getting frustrated in the process. Thanks a lot for taking the time and effort to do this and make a video about it! Safe riding!

    Not only do you have a killer beard you are right. I been doing a few longer trips this year and I’m right there with you. I wand to document the trip but putting the cameras on, keeping hot batteries (which is a pain swapping batteries every 1-1/2 to 2 hrs). Btw-insta 360 uses USB-C connection. USB A is really old tech. I am trying to make 300 miles/day as a goal. Otherwise I’m doing “forced march” mode where I drive past everything. Good job with all the videos you have posted. Really helpful and good philosophy to share with newer riders. 👍

    I have owned a Schuberth C5 since 2022. It's been great for me. I used it in March for a trip to utah from ny and May for a Florida trip. About 12k miles total. It's handled the cold (30's) and heat (90's) well, with liners at times. It was snug at first, and i did the same comparison between large and xl. The xl was a larger shell, so i opted for the large. It's broken in great. This helmet is also designed for the sena system. I mounted a Cardo Edge without too much effort. The only issue is the microphone. I have to position it before lowering the front of the helmet. I removed the microphone for my long trips as i was alone, and i don't answer calls or use voice commands. Fwiw, i rode my triumph 1200 gt pro with Puig windshield and winglets. I also used the Barkbuster Blizzard hand guards and heated vest/gloves in the colder weather. I have been very comfortable, even on 500+ mile days. This is through high winds, snow, rain, and heat. I hope this helps someone as picking products is a huge shot in the dark!
