Merry Little Batman - Nightmare Sequence - Animation by Nick Cross
Nightmare sequence I made for the WB movie, Merry Little Batman. I designed and animated the whole sequence in the style of an old woodcut illustration with some German Expressionist influence in there for good measure.

Yellow Cake was completed and originally uploaded in 2009 in standard definition. I was never really happy with the final look of the film, so went back to the original edit and remastered it in HD. This film was written in 2003, and was a reaction to the geopolitical situation at the time...sadly, in almost 20 years, not much has changed. They were forced to follow a totalitarian and fascist goverment that they did not agree of, but followed anyways due to the desesperation of the town 3. And the thing is, if the cats simply negotiated for the cakes after the revolution then they'd more likely be able to still have them. The bakers would have no reason to attack the cats if not for fear of potential retaliation for ending tribute. A deal could have been reached, but the worst outcome for both sides was the conclusion.
It's so interesting to watch in the comments, how even after all this many in the comments still blame the villagers. They had built qeapons to protect from the cats, they disnt build more or greater weaponsnbecause they have less resources. Oppressed people are just that, oppressed, yet still they are blamed and the cats are convenietly not mentioned. Maybe it seems obvious that they’re the bad guys and that's why, and maybe that feeling is also protecting something deeper in the cats who watch that they can just ignore. Hell I may not be at the tip top class of the cats with what my skin color has given me in society, but I am a cat compared to the villagers. Maybe there is something for me to find as well. A less priveliged cat still has the privelige of the cats. Many interesting observations to be picked from this if we choose to dive deep.
Skin colour doesn’t seem to actually matter in people’s positions in life (Other than banks and similar things). Though it may be different in America. What with all the race politics and such. I live in England so I’m truly not familiar with those. Most peoples situations in life (usually) has something to do with their Family. For example my Father is a roofer and trained under his dad. So I am likely to train to be a roofer too. However my mother’s side (as a whole) aren’t in a specific trade. Leading to most of her side to be much poorer than my father’s side. Though I’ve noticed people coin the whole oppressor and oppressed terminology. Glueing oppressor to whites and oppressed to various minority groups, most particular blacks and Middle Easterners. Shockingly only creating more bigotry towards these groups rather than diverting it to others. Societies each have a history and built in hierarchy. Where some a valued over others for a myriad of reasons. Family, profession, wealth. You name it! Race rarely plays a substantial role in this equation. I’m done bye 👋

I also don't know why that's even the case considering people of color can be very successful and I don't need to bring any examples to prove it but I digrase As for he short itself, I do not blame th oppress civilians but rather the oppressor since despite having a good point on saving its people he also kind of lying in his teeth since he also profit from the trade with the cats. Yo put more fuel to the fire, sense they killed off that leader for being that oppressed and betrayed their trust they don't have a leader to keep them from chaos (that being either anarchy in their own village or in this case here where they planted a bomb to intentionally hurt thecats without realizing the consequences), and in result, pretty much got them wiped American style

Sadly untrue. What appears as ‘heavy-handed’ depends on what truths and narratives your view of the world already carry’s and is stacked on. Example being, just about every other modern country finds it absurd that Americans find our need to carry guns with us into a grocery store- but that’s so tightly ingrained into our history and culture that there’s much more leeway to cope and argue for it. The threshold of what you’re willing to accept for change and as standard is based on the conditions and narratives set in your early childhood and development. Unless you actually try to deprogram that and view it a little bit more objectively- and not in a way where you’re trying to reverse engineer excuses to justify absurdity. When I was a teenager I was staunchly under the beliefs that things like the development of the nuclear bomb and nuking of Japan as well as the Vietnam War were inevitable and necessary evils. These obviously senseless acts of inexcusable carnage were beliefs given and reinforced by a heavy handed education and reinforced by culture and the authority of adults around me. It wasn’t until I was given a bit of wiggle room in responsibility and had to start thinking on my own did I start pulling at different strings and realizing that I wasn’t entirely satisfied with those shallow beliefs. But even today there will be those that without any amount of actual involvement with such things will still claim the necessity of them as that was what they were given and they’re too distracted by the marathon of paying rent and watching out for yourself in life to undergo mental self-flagellation and tearing down your own ego. That’s the power of culture, especially an authoritarian one.
