Katie Couric: From Tragedies to Triumphs | THE THREAD Documentary Series
Katie Couric’s unique combination of warmth, intelligence and empathy earned her the title of “America’s Sweetheart.” In this episode of “The Thread,” the trailblazing journalist -- the first woman to ever anchor a nightly network newscast -
reflects on the life lessons that have anchored her during her five-decade career in broadcasting. She poignantly describes how the heartbreaking loss of her husband to colon cancer led her to become a champion for early detection of the disease. By unashamedly sharing her own procedure on national television, Katie Couric was the first public figure to address the stigma surrounding colonoscopies - almost certainly saving many thousands of lives by sharing her painful and deeply personal story.
Katie Couric is the TV host and journalist who anchored The CBS Evening News from 2006-11. She previously was the host of the NBC morning program The Today Show from 1991 through 2006. Katie Couric worked for CNN and ABC early in her career, also reporting in Miami and Washington, D.C. She joined NBC News in 1989 and the Today show in 1990, becoming permanent co-anchor in 1991. With her perky attitude and no-holds-barred interviewing style, Katie Couric boosted the show’s sagging ratings and became one of morning TV’s most popular personalities. Her husband, Jay Monahan, died in 1998 of colon cancer, and in 1999 Couric co-founded a non-profit organization for cancer research and education. In 2001, Katie Couric signed a new contract to remain with The Today Show through 2006. When that contract ended, she announced to Today Show viewers in 2006 that she would leave the show to become the anchor of The CBS Evening News. Couric made her debut on the evening news broadcast in 2006. After five years, she announced in 2011 that she had decided to step down from the job.

I think Watergate was a coup by the intelligence agencies. Nixon was extremely popular before a novice reporter who had just left naval intelligence suddenly broke the biggest story in a decade, with information being fed to him from the fbi, who had coincidentally provided the men who conducted ye break-in.

I’m convinced that George B McClellan’s lackluster motives, snobbery and arrogance were motivated by nothing other than damn near treason… The man was so full of himself and a silver-spooned brat who had grown up in a rich family in Philadelphia. He was completely capable as a commander; graduating 2nd in his West Point class and serving with distinction in the Mexican War. He had every single advantage at his disposal in more manpower, resources, armaments and industrial capacity to wage war and defeat the confederacy early but was lazy, indecisive, cautious, and afraid to be bold and use his superior means to his advantage. I legitimately believe he wanted to become a dictator or close to it. He believed himself above everyone else, including other generals, Lincoln and his entire cabinet. When he realized that wouldn’t be able to do it with the military after Lincoln relieved him from command, he took his anger out by running against him in 1864 on the Democrat’s “Peace” Platform and ending the war negotiating with the Confederacy. I think it’s only fitting and righteous by karma or wherever else that Lincoln destroyed him in a landslide and then proceeded to sink into the abysses of American history.

Yeah, but the US protested WW1. WW2 shouldn’t be the mark by which the wars are judged, good vs evil. Tbh the more you read into WW2, the more you become shocked by the actions of the allies, but I know I’d rather live in a work where the US won, then the third reich. It’s still incredibly complex
