Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer Lecture 2024, University of Cambridge - Habiba Chirchir
“What we know and don't know yet about skeletal gracility in modern humans” Dr Habiba Chirchir, Marshall University.
Abstract:
Skeletal gracility is the reduction in the strength and relative bone mass as inferred from bone tissue and overall bone size. In contrast to our hominin ancestors, the recent modern human skeleton is unusually gracile. In this lecture, I will examine the evidence supporting the recent emergence of gracile morphology, explore the variations in this morphology among recent human groups, and discuss the various hypotheses that have been proposed to explain this phenomenon through a comparative analysis of extinct and extant mammalian species including hominin ancestors from the deep past, reaching as far back as ~ 2 million years ago.

I loved the Gatekeeper!
awesome!
It would have been more interesting if the background music had been lower or completely non-existent. You say that it is the first film in the world in the Babylonian language... so it would have been better if the focus had been on speech instead of that accompanying auditory noise.
Prof. Mesoudi, please repeat the sizing experiment with students formally trained in visual arts; especially sculpture students, but also including arts majors who have received a classical training in drawing and painting. When I was in middle school and again in high school, I attended magnet programs as an art student. I received approximately 3 hours a day in classical art instruction for approximately 6 years. I was jarred when you said that normal people cannot perceive size differences less than 3% as I could easily tell the difference in sizes between the examples shown. Perhaps, ancient knappers would have received equivalent training in size and shape perception from a young age and would consistently and significantly outperform average modern adults in this regard. This might explain the significant difference in observed variation noted at 27:00 in your lecture.
Two thumbs up!
I like the fact that there are no blacks in this film. That makes it more historicaly accurate than f*ckin Netflix
Congratulations! 👏
Interesting language. I have not found any word similar to Armenian)))
Very nice! Saudações do Brasil
This dude’s entire career is trying to spin chicken-shit into being chicken-salad, motivated by his racial insecurity. Afro-centric nonsense.
I was curious, but had no idea it would be this good. Kudos.
At least it's better than Ted Lasso.
Globalisation and Wari State-making: Re-evaluating Middle Horizon Peru - Dr Justin Jennings 1206pm 25.6.23 the sound quality is worse than attempting to converse on my phone... p.s he has hit the proverbial nail on the head, so to speak... give me your definition of a term or the collective noun of a particular group or body and then i... or the scholarly meister can make some headway re: defining an historical narrative and comparing and contrasting historical events.

The Poor Man of Nippur - World's first film in Babylonian `12.4.23 1128am seems the gingers got everywhere back in the day. at least i can say: i have engaged with the world's first (KNOWN) film which featured the Babylonian language.
At 2:53 when the guard says what sounds like "baali" - any linguistic relationship to the word "Ba'al" e.g. the semitic storm god?
Is Babylonian Akkadian?
This was a breath of fresh air thank you for sharing.
I was expecting to see arabs in the video not white people 😅
This was incredibly entertaining! I loved every minute of it. The actor playing Gimil-Ninurta should get an Oscar or BAFTA for his wink alone! The person playing the Mayor also had laughing, especially his drunken staggering in the field. It wish there were more modern works of creativity like this that connect us to the ancient world. Great job.
Finally! A movie I don't have to use subtitles for.
Don't think so that's babylonian accent language Bullshit
I don't trust someone who claim he translated Sumerian Akkadian Babylonian language. My question is.. How? . I beg your pardon...:One of the Sumerians Akkadians resurrected? Materialised from grave like Zombie to explain letters in clay tablets or something..? B...ocks.
I live in Nippur😂❤️.iraq 🇮🇶
As a Mesopotamian from Iraq, I am telling you , THANK YOU !!
Call this Babylonian language (dialect) and using the Assyrian dialect is like using American English and calling it ancient language of Britain . You should call it first ancient assyrian movie. It is good to hear our ancient language.
Sequel: mayor repays each insult by three, insulting mayor 9 times Second sequel: poor man repays 27 times Series becomes a fad: scientists, politicians and folk would think of new repays, forgetting their everyday obligations. Civilisation falls, Babylon is no more. 3k years later somebody unveils the old story and the great loop of destruction begins. We are all doomed q.e.d.
Greetings of love from Iraq to Great Britain
What an excellent storytelling!
That was a wonderful lecture, thank you
I found out about this story a week ago when reading on ancient mesopotamia, and it was hilarious to me. To my shock, there was a short film on it, which I liked. Given how utterly niche this legend is, I didn't expect to find much about it. What I found especially interesting was differing interpretations-was it serious, or comical?
nice acting too
Надо же, как красиво звучит язык...
Well played, Dr. Whyte - quite literally.
Good
Some transliteration would be nice
This dosnt explain what happened to South American animals..all who died off at he same time.
My next door neighbour at the time, Keith Burton, worked on this project and took me along to the Ditton Walk research site to see a test model during an open day. More recently I took him to see RTV 31 at Peterborough which was wonderful, hearing about the project and their innovative spirit from him. I sometimes walk along the site of the test bed and imagine the excitement of those days .
