I decided to build a Tamya kit of a M46 Patton tank fashioned after the German King Tigers in the Warner Brothers Movie Battle of the Bulge. The Tank is a M46 Patton and painted up as Col Hessler's R-01 Command Tank. I am also working on an American Chaffee Light Tank fashioned after Sgt. Guffy's "Bargain Basement" (A M4 Sherman in the Movie) Chaffee tank.

Good research Bob. By the way the Airfix tank is a Centurion not a Churchill. They were just too late to see action in WW2 but did very well in Korea and in Israel. Hope you're feeling better soon.

THanks bruce., both the old lady and I got hit pretty bad, her worse than I. At least I was able to get around she was bedridden for several days. The research for the video was interesting, I learned that T Cohn (Superior) put out a lot more very cool military and western toy sets than I thought. Some of those sets are really hard to find these days, The Marine Base and the Naval Base. The Battle Ground set (The answer to Marx's Battle GRound Set) is extremely tough to find intact. They used the smaller tanks and the Monogram/Marx knock offs in green and grey, some even have the Lido Soldiers in the green and grey as well. I wanted to throw a bit more info like this into the video but my head was killing me and that nasal drip thing was just too much to deal with. Happy 4rth :)
@@robertgagne2388 Thanks for the additional info. I had not heard of the T COHN sets.. maybe it was after my time as a kid. I had the Marx BG set along with many of a the other Marx sets, like the ACW, ARW, even a Zorro set with Don Diego and dozens of Mexican soldiers.. All brings back great memories. Hope you and wife are over whatever you had, sounds very nasty. Wishing you and the family good health and happiness on this 4th of July.
Can I ask where you are able to get these models from nowadays? They must be collectors items now. Great video by the way!! I still have some of my Monogram armor models from the 70's. I've been building dioramas, on and off, ever since I discovered Shep Paine's work on the Monogram boxes. I'm just getting back into it (again) and I would LOVE to get my hands on some of these models. I'll start my research now. Any advice you have is greatly appreciated!
Hello Mike, The search begins :) I feel your pain. Ebay was me' go to place for these old out of print Monogram Models. I grew up with the white box series, so i decided that there is where I would begin. Ebay is your best shot for these. Another thing you should look for are Monogram Catalogues from the 1970's - 1980s (usually on ebay) they have some really great photos of the armor Series Plus look for the Monogram Models book band by Thomas Graham (Amazon) there are several editions out. Take your time buying these, they can get expensive. There are two (2) model currently in production be Revell that you can find at Hobby Lobby, and some other chain stores as well as better stocked hobby shops we are talking about the German Panzer Kampfwagon 4, and the USA M48 Patton.
Been using that Napoleon's Campaigns book, for any years.
It is a pretty cool book. :)
I also made a frontier for out of popsicle sticks when i was a kid.

This movie, along with a model produced around the same time, is responsible for my lifelong affection for the M47 tank ( the M46 turret was very similar to the M26 Pershing's, I believe what you are displaying is actually the M47) facing off against Chafee tanks in the battle scenes, it looked monstrous and unbeatable, actual Tigers and Tiger IIs even more so of course,, but these just looked beautiful in that color scheme, loved them

I’m getting back into casting could I make a request on how to paint figures? Like primer to order of painting ? There other people with painting tutorials, but not that many on 54 mm figurines. I’m back casting pewter 54mm but paint chips off and it’s supper frustrating. Also detail work is hard because brush loses its point because paint is thick. But when I thin the paint, it doesn’t go on very good. Watch a couple of your videos. Looks like you got a lot going on but if you could make one, it would be greatly appreciated thank you and have a good day.
Hello, Getting the paint to stay on miniatures can be a pain thats for sure. both metal and plastic miniatures may have residue releasing agents still coating them. Wash them in warm water, let dry and then prime them. Prime White if you want that high reflective bright color, Prime black if you want a darker painting scheme, and last is the mid tone primer Grey :), this is the medium color not so bright not so dark. Your primer should match your paints Acrylic to Acrylic, oils to oils, laquer to laquer. Dont mix and match you will have serious drying and paint adhering to your mini's problems. Paint consistancy is tough to get right. You are going to have to test the paint every now and then. I put a little water in a cap/cover from a jar. Very little water is needed in the lid. I then take a bit of paint from the pot and mix it in the jar lid. If the paint is to watery I add more paint. If the paint is to thick use your brush to get some clean water from your water jar and add it to the mix. See what happens and let me know if it helps. I will do a painting vid for you. Take Care

CTS "Classic Toy Soldiers" actually have there own Civil War sets not the ones you have here, They did also remake the old Marx figures using the original Marx molds!
I think they were lucky in getting some of the old Marx Molds, I believe they got the US Marine Molds, I m trying to think just off the top of my head.
@@robertgagne2388 yeah i think its great they actually went out and found these old molds cleaned them up and got them working again, and not just take the easy way and do clones! I think they did some Airfix also?....in soft plastic years before Airfix reissued sets in hard plastic, which would break easy!

When I was a kid, I really wanted to order some of those sets that were in those comic book ads. But I never had an allowance, so money was scarce for me. A $1.98 was a lot back then. A kid around the corner owned the Revolutionary War set and bought it over to my house one day. When he was called home for supper, he did not even bother to collect his soldiers but left them in the dirt, saying he would get them the next day. This boggled my mind. I did not have many toys and took great care with them. I do have one of the soldiers from that set and that figure looks like he may be lighting a fuse for one of the cannons. I still have some of those comics books and must have missed the fact that some of those sets were games that came with rules. I did buy Airfix soldier sets from a local hobby shop and later the Roco Mini Tanks. The first were one box the ACW Union and Confederate soldiers. I believe the sales tax was 6% then so I had to make sure I had $1.06 for the purchase. I do wish I have kept those as I spent so many hours playing with them back in the day.

The panzer IV by Monogram was my first tank model. The local Hobby Lobbies around me still carried it up until a few years ago but now they seemed to have stopped stocking it, probably due to some woke executive.
THat is such a great kit. I used to see that model at Hobby Lobby as well as the M48 Patton too.

Hey Bob, very good to see and hear you again. I figured you were busy with LIFE! My wife is not 'into' this hobby at either but she tolerates me!! Ha!! She is okay with it, as she figures she knows what I am doing and NOT getting into trouble anywhere else! Ha Ha.. It's all good. I just enjoy doing the research for painting and organizing my 'little armies' and watching You Tube video's like yours of others who enjoy the hobby. Very relaxing for me. So, enjoy and continue to balance the 'real world' with the hobby!! All will be good! be well.

Please tell me if possible,where can you putchase a Waterloo battle set? I am just getting nack into my Napoleonic 1/72 figure collecting and painting. Here in Toronto,Ontario Canada, hobby stores are disappearing from the landscape like bison on the prairie. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. A great collection you have brought together. I bought two at my local hobby store years ago, I got the newest version off of an ebay buy. I check out Ebay alot!!! be patient you will find a set. You can also pick up the boxes seperate as well. I can do another video showing how to do this if you wish.

One of the biggest advantages this seems to have for me is that it doesnt seem to want to melt my models. I have expensive stuff that works fairly well, but have to do one model at a time, as you're supposed to soak ot tem minutes, rhen clean it, and if its not done you can repeat it. Any more and it warns it will damage your model. With scrubbing time included, I'm looking at 30 minutes per model, not counting tanks or dreads. This stuff looks like i can dump a bunch of models in it, leave it overnight, then spend an hour cleaning them all up.
Yes you can, its very good I use a 1/2 and 1/2 solution in a big plastic container, I just through a bunch of minis in there and after sitting over night I can get the majority of the paint off. It will take a little longer for mini's that are heavelypainted.

Bob (new subscriber here) I am an Airfix collector here in the States. Read on another YT vid that one way to deal with plastic embrittlement is to apply "wood stain" with no details at all. I am a chemist so I became very intrigued by this. I have several first edition 1/32 British Paratroops that are literally falling to pieces, any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
:( Sadly once the process starts its a "Gonner", I used wood stain on my freshly opened figures it helps seal the figures and allows the paint to adhere to the figure. Once the paint jobs are finished I poly urethane. Depending on what you like Gloss coat, Semi Gloss or Satin (Flat). You can also use testers dull coat for flat finish or Gloss for the high gloss toy soldier look. Airfix rock!!!
