Boat cleaners: You'll never guess what worked best! EP | 17
After trying over a dozen cleaners, including boat cleaners and household cleaners, we finally found that brought our decks back to life! In this episode, Gillian goes in hard on our awful looking decks and brings them back to looking white (well... mostly white!). Then, we apply Penofin Marine Oil to all the toe rails and our old sailboat starts looking pretty spiffy!

Installing an Electric Marine Toilet On Our Sailboat - No More 💩 in a Bucket! EP | 16

After looking at all the toilet options: manual toilet, electric toilet, composting toilet, cassette toilet, chemical port-o-potty, and the no-frills bucket toilet.... we settled on a Jabsco Compact Electric toilet for our old sailboat! I didn't get the installation done on the first try, but I eventually got it hooked up right! #jabsco #sailboatrefit #boatrenovation #offgrid #oldsailboat #cheo...

It's official... S.V. Lee Hawk finally gets a brand spanking new, traditional hand painted sign with 18 kt gold leaf gilding! We were lucky enough to get connected with Jenna from www.jennapaints.com, who stopped by the casita and showed how she creates stunning hand painted signs. The DIY carpenter is back with another project: reclaim a 'catch all' sea berth and make some proper storage cabinets that I can use to store all my tools and supplies on the sailboat. While I'm no carpenter, I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out. This episode is dedicated to Leo, my father in law, who was a huge supporter of our channel. He passed recently, and I know he would have real...

We love our new "Battlecat" inflatable dinghy we bought from Pop Board Co (www.popboardco.com). The Hangkai 4-Stroke outboard motor we ordered from Amazon arrived completely broken, so we pivoted and bought a Torqueedo instead. What a great choice! It's a great companion to our inflatable dinghy, it silent, it's light and easy to transport.... We just unlocked summer fun in the marina! #sailboa...

Our old sailboat is a work in progress. In this episode we try to figure out whether some RayMarine instruments we inherited with the boat still work or not. In this episode we learn how to catch a drone from the back of a bobbing sailboat for the first time. Super sketchy... don't recommend! Truck wash works best for me - just don’t let it touch any metal! HCL works too - same caution about metals. Both of these are highly corrosive so take precautions and don’t use them anywhere you can’t rinse properly - so watch out for cracks it can seep into.

I've just finished doing the teak on my boat. I sanded down to wood then wiped it down leaving it to dry. Then gave 3 coats of wood skin. Now all I have to do once a year is wipe down, let it dry and put a fresh coat of wood skin on.

Hello, I happened upon your channel a couple of days ago, so I have binge watched from the beginning, You have said a few times that you only want to go local cruising and local coastal cruising, Whilst I recognise that the boat is far from ready to go right now, I am wondering if you realize that you have a Moderate blue water boat that would happily take you on a circumnavigation of this wonderful planet, to me that is like having a hammer to open peanuts, I hope some day soon you put that baby to the use it was intended for, I for one and I am sure so many of your followers would love to watch your adventures. Light winds, and fair seas my friend, Keep up the good work.

Bi-carb of soda and 9% white vinegar. Scrub the Bi-carb powder into the mould and give it a few hours. Then use the vinegar with a scrubbing brush. Steam cleaner really shifts it if you can get one. Lastly the most dangerous if wearing flip flops, is to use boiling water with dish washer detergent in a large bucket and use a long handle scrubbing brush. Long handle brushes are way better as you can lean into the job and less tiring.

Green deck: Are all the chemical product useless? It looks to me that your muscel work with a brush did most of the job. Nicely done! Pressure washer works best and effortless on natural alges from my experience. I need no toxic things at all. Your deck shold handle pressure wash just fine. Even the teak can benefit from the pressure wash but there you need to be gentle to not remove the softer "summer wood". The only negativ about pressure washing is the noise and blowing the crap on to my neighbors boat :-) Very beutiful boat and you really make it shine again!

I wondered why the Oxyclean did best, and after reading learned it's mostly sodium percarbonate that dissolved in water yields hydrogen peroxide, the same stuff used to bleach hair. I think most white paints and sunscreens are made with titanium dioxide, and the TiO2 sunscreen industry use hydrogen peroxide to clean "white haze" (Ti02) that falls out of suspension in their production equipment. The hydrogen peroxide may be removing a thin layer of paint and all the grime on top then goes with it.

@andecap1325 I made one, singular, promise to Matt when we got Lee Hawk. That I wouldn’t power wash the boat unsupervised 😂 also didn’t have luck with the crazy stains without detergents. Also, the best part about this process was (and I should have chatted about it more in episode!) that I got a great view to mark the minuscule places we need to go back and do some deck repairs. But yes def recommend power washing first, esp to sailors that have the restraint to use power washers appropriately!

I’m really surprised that the mechanic from the previous video or the mechanic from the boat yard did not check and recommend that the impeller be replaced since the boat had been sitting for over a year. Impellers are cheap and easy compared to a rebuild of a badly overheated engine.
