My koi have always liked or not liked food spiting it out I have used all different foods trying to find one they all like and now it seems I have. I cannot understand how some fish like some food and others a different food. One point to remember is most Koi food is made by one company in China then packed in the UK under what ever name is on the container or bag. Shape plays apart as well I h...

I note that there is 3% and 12% which one do you use 1 liters per 1000 gallons
Thanks i will try this
Thanks for the update
Your fish seem really lethargic, somthing dossnt seem right, even feeding the food you think they like, try food with fish meal as the main ingredients, when i feed mine its like a pack of piranhas. What are your other water tests, ph and kh?
water tests are all fine I have used aqua food and Hikari they just wont touch it spit it out.
My son commented today ‘Dad. Your green water has gone brown’. ‘I know I said, it’s the rain’. One day it will be clear. Good luck with yours.
Yes non stop rain day after day even the water out of the taps is poor.
Is that cheap food 'Herons' brand? My fish love that too. I buy that and Coppens of Holland Koi food and my fish seem to enjoy them, both are reasonably priced yet give good results. 👍👍
At first they all looked the same however I went for Extra Select Premium because I noticed it had wheat flour in it same as brown bread.
Not very lively are they ,I would test the water
Yes the water quality is fine my problem is seagulls get hundreds of them flying over through the day the odd one sometimes drops down and circles the pond also 1 mile from big nature park and get visits from herons at least once a week. However I have a video in the next few days on how to stop them.
Dried insects and shrimp are a great food to give koi. 50% protein and they absolutely go crazy for them. I got 4 big tubs of different types for about £25 including delivery.
Yes I do give them Silkworm Pupae they dont like them , River Shrimp same again wont touch them , Calci Worms and meal worms they eat fine.
@@PondKoiTipsTricks Mine don't like the silkworm pupae much. Mealworms and freshwater shrimp (both small and large) they devour.
You put that much shite in I'm not surprised
well I have found it works small amounts through the winter and none in the spring and summer in one of my filter bays I grow cucumbers 10 ml pea gravel in a container 3 seeds drop it into the filter bay and off they go it must be the Nitrogen in the water. May extend it next year making a bigger filter and adding tomatoes see how they do.
What treatments do you do over the winter. What dosage?
Brilliant Alan. I did exactly the same 25 years ago with a bin. Never had any problems after I made it. Crystal clear water in a 4 square meter pond. The liner finally gave way this year, so a total rebuild on the go. And yes, the trusty wheely bin will be put back into action. Managed to save 25 fish before the water drained away. All crap dug out, 25 years worth. 2 one ton bags of it. New liner, new uv lamp, same old wheely bin.
Yes I have been looking at the idea of a woffal filter inside the pipe which would split the water into 4 flows making it full of more oxygen still working on how to make one.
So only use the 3% not the 6%?
You can use 6% but half it I keep to 3% in case I forget to half the 6%.
I have had mint growing in my pond just floating in a basket and it hasn't affected my water parameters.
Overstocked, under filtered. You're feeding your koi too much protein food at low temperatures. That is why they're fat. Unsure of the purpose of the video.
You didn't show the filter medium mate!!! All you've shown is sticking some plastic together...
media is first alfagrog next carbon pellets then ziolite next K1 jap matting and last filter wool
You said drain the water off and then put it into my pond? Do you mean after 2 hours just pour the boiled water into the pond?
Yes you can also do the same with barley when a farmer cuts it down ask if you can have a carry bag of the waste and soak it the same useing it every month through the winter.
Measurements wold help how much water, how much to put in pond
Its in the discription 100ml per 1000gal into the pond mix 130g to 1 lt hot water.
It should say on the bag but I do 150g to 1lt water then put 150ml per 1000gal of pond water.
Thanks mate really appreciated you sharing this information 👍🏻
If you have good filtering and air you dont need all that testing ,its find out the couse of green water
Where I live its a bad place for salt air and rain which is salty also a lot of iron gets in the rain water this all effects my pond plus I have a high count of nitrate in the tap water.
Sorry about the leg. Is it diabetes? I hope it gets better for you soon.
No doctors have no idea what it is tests show no diabetes all they do is give me tablets.
Looks like a new pond did you treat the water before adding fish
The pond is 30 years old not a problem in the past however all the rain made the pond turn black. Then More rain and it started to turn a dark green no algea in the pond.
Its a very beautiful pond that you've got. Must be nice to enjoy watching the fish. I do hope your pain improves 🙏🏽
Yes, thank you Im on a course of antibiotics and very strong pain killers which dont seem that good I was told to soak a bandage in zinc and put this on by a lady who is 97 years of age over the years she has used zinc will think about that one.
why is the outlet so low? you're missing a lot of filtration?
The water goes in at the top filters all they way down then comes up the pipe.
@@PondKoiTipsTricks aaahh
Very interesting Alan, I have just subscibed to you, best wishes, Tony, Farmoor Koi😀
Thank you for that I like to experiment and use simple things.
Ok, what's machine are you going to look at? 😅
im going to look at an ion machine checking up on them now.
🤞 your fish pulls through Alan...🤞
Poppie
So what was the product you used to treat the pond ???
its in the video blanket answer around 4 scoops in my pons which is around 1/4 dose
Great new additions there Alan..😉👍
At last we get to see more of your face on camera..😉👍
Good old diy filter. Its a great feeling when you make something cheap and it works well.
Yes been thinking of a 4 compartment brick one at the back of the pond gravity filling and gravity back to the pond.
Great video 👍

Yes its been like this now for almost 2 years nothing you can do its just got to go on its own well one day.
I've been debating giving that a go...
Does it harm plants in pond
I dont have plants in the pond but I do a pond filter veg bay which the water goes through and ive had no problems with those plants always use food grade amount depends on pond size but start with 60ml.

If you have discovered small worms in your tap water. Or your fish have been catching things. The worms that have been reported to have been found in tap water are midge larvae, flatworms, roundworms (otherwise known as nematodes), and rotifers. The typical size of parasitic worms or helmiths, such as flukes, tapeworms, hookworms, ascris, pinworms, trichina worms, and filaria worms is 30-50 microns in diameter. Nematodes have long, cylindrical bodies which have no internal segments. Nematodes in fresh water and in the soil are microscopic. Some can be up to 1 inch long and others are microscopic. They can enter the water supply via reservoirs, wells, streams, rivers or lakes. The usual response to this problem has been one of increased reactive maintenance routines by the water company. This typically involves considerable cleaning and disinfection of the supply zone and increased chlorination of the water for a period of time after the event. This often gives rise to frequent complaints about the resulting taste and odour. It should also be noted that chlorine and bleach can be totally ineffective against blood worms in particular. Worms in tap water have also been known to impart objectionable tastes and odours to water. Although totally undesirable, it is generally accepted that these are completely harmless and they have been studied for whether they are carriers of the type of disease-bearing bacteria found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals.
Wow, that looks painful..😮
You got it colder than down here. It -4.5 down here at the moment...🥶🥶🥶🥶
A great video I really enjoyed it you have a new subscriber. I am original from Nottingham England but I emigrated to Newfoundland Canada in 1990 - 2018 I decided to keep koi in my garden pond like I did in the UK but here the winter is brutal like -20 is very common so we have our own chalenges. Plus we can’t purchase equipment so I have to make everything ie filters etc. Cheers Mate.
Im having a go at bricks to warm the pond its a simple method a greenhouse heater B0BD9HL64X it has a square home made tin cover like a funnel which goes under the pond covers so the heat goes up this and blows across the pond under the covers the heater has bricks all round to stop the possibility of fire the covers keep the heat in and I found it ups the temp by around 10c.
Gave mine some food today loved it ,11c today
very cold in derby mate but no snow and pond holding at 4 degrees😢
Well load of snow going over now temp just on -4 so its going to hit you sunday or monday but it may turn to rain by the time you get it.

Im way up in northumberland and get all the bad weather off the coast thick fog ice cold wind rain if anyone gets it I know its going to be me.
Did you spot and remove those snails in the two corners at 28 seconds into the video....😉😉👍👍
The fish are probabley unsettled from the sudden drop in temp. Mine do the same..🤔
Either they are not well, or a heron has been round my fish eat it no problem,
When I put the coppens in which they normally have they took it right away can not understand it,
