Embodying Justice
Send us a Text Message. (www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2035663/open_sms)
What does it mean to truly embody justice in our daily lives and church communities? Inspired by the wisdom of Micah 6:8, we embark on an exploration of how justice can transform church culture into a space radiating goodness, kindness, and love. We begin with some personal updates, sharing the joy of summer's end and the excitement of new school routines, and we celebrate a significant milestone in Josiah's life-his recent marriage!
Anchored in the insightful book, "Church Called Tov (www.churchcalledtov.org/) ", we unravel the complexities of biblical justice beyond political lenses. We explore how justice is central to faith and relationships, drawing on the teachings of Jesus and theologians like Miroslav Volf. Through Jesus' prophetic actions and teachings, we reveal the integral role of justice in embodying God's heart and creating a loving community. This episode underscores the significance of living justly, not just as an abstract concept, but as a tangible practice that shapes our interactions and the church's health.
We're not just talking theory; we highlight real-world examples of addressing and recognizing injustice within and beyond church walls. Through powerful stories of advocacy and the necessity of empathy, we discuss the importance of transparency and proactive measures to tackle wrongs. Our aim is to inspire listeners to build relationships and cultivate a church culture that mirrors God’s justice, love, and empathy. Tune in for a compelling discussion that challenges each of us to live out justice authentically in our communities.

38:24 “There is no single passage, or even collection of passages that say everything that needs to be said about leadership”. So you’re saying the Bible and what it says is insufficient on this topic to give us a clear understanding of church leadership? This is borderline blasphemy.

35:14 at this point in the sermon, when discussing “overseers”, especially with the sermon topic being church leadership, why not cross reference and actually read it passage like 1 Timothy 3:1-7 or Titus 1:5-9? I guess those would be inconvenient as they point out that overseers (aka: anyone who teaches in front of the church) is to be a man. That doesn’t work well with your women giving sermons and teaching over the church. The noun episkopos [ejpivskopo"] appears five times in the New Testament and means overseer, guardian, bishop. It is used in reference to Jesus Christ in 1 Peter 2:25 and in other places of individuals who have a function of leadership in the church. I would say that giving the sermon and teaching for the service is a “function of leadership”.

Katie talks about the Holy Spirit’s important words spoken through Paul on this subject, but ignores those spoken through the Holy Spirit about women teaching in church (1 Timothy 2:11-14). Distort the scripture to justify this disobedience all you want but it’s very clearly written there, and in many other passages. Let’s not forget that God is not a God of confusion (1 Cor 14:33). If you need to play twister with the scripture for it to say what you want it to, that’s not a good sign of solid doctrine or understanding.

Also, God doesn’t meet is where we are. That’s a platitude. God is reachable by us no matter where we are. But He’s not going to meet us in our sin. God has NO tolerance for sin. Jesus never had any tolerance for sin. The phrase sure sounds nice, though. A reaffirmation of any lifestyle.

The Bible is broken into two parts. OT and NT. The Law and The Gospel. Both parts equally important, but I don’t hear Crosspoint preaching the law or any OT scripture for that matter. Likewise, we serve one God in three parts. Father, Son and Holy Spirit; but I don’t hear Crosspoint preaching anything about the Father and HIS posture on sin. The Father’s wrath against sin is a scary thing for those receiving a watered down message that favors JUSTICE over GRACE and MERCY. If sin isn’t part of the gospel presentation because “we can’t be judgmental”, then there’s no need for a savior. Doctrine matters for those not wanting to be lukewarm.

Encouraging and affirming sin is not to be celebrated. Countless Bible verses about the qualifications of an “overseer” (teaching elder/pastor) and they all say teachers of the congregation are to be men. Not my opinion. Take it up with God if you don’t like it. There are zero examples of support for women overseeing a church or teaching over men. It might feel good to support female teachers, but most sin does feel good in the moment, doesn’t it? Isn’t this the wife of the lead pastor who just married a man to the woman he cheated on his wife with? I wonder what Jesus says about a married man cheating? Or a divorced man remarrying? When you attempt to unify a couple like that, they are not married in the eyes of God and they are living in sin. That is what the Bible says. How do you reconcile that or justify that in your mind as a pastor? False teachers read comments such as these and think "I must be doing something right. I'm be persecuted in Jesus' name." No, you're not. You're being rebuked.
