    Any one of the Ambitious Card type routines purposely employ different techniques on each iteration to purposely and non-verbally dismiss previous potential solutions, so that when the finale arrives, all solutions have been exhausted. In other words, it relies on exactly this kind of feign. The Fool Us routine is easy to follow through if you keep that in mind and pay attention to what is going on at each moment. There is even a moment when he pretty much TELLS the audience what is going on at the moment it is happening, which I find deliciously ironic. Also: Sweden rules!

      ***** ? What?? They did? In what way? If you say that they did "switch" but said "no" you are wrong, because the producers are forced to know what the secret are so no one CAN cheat. As well as someone (who had to take down his vid) showed how this trick was made.

    • @raglanheuser1162
      @raglanheuser1162 Před 8 lety

      loleo123 that's not the point. the point is that there are many possible ways to do any trick, and penn and teller can come up with multiple ways to do each one. however, they have to come up with the ONE which was used, and when the trick is done a certain way it implies the method used. it'd be like if i did a trick where it could be done with a deck switch, and I made all the hand motion that made it look like i did a deck switch, but HAHA NO GOTCHYA i didn't actually do a deck switch i used a different method. its poor sportsmanship. this show is supposed to be about producing a unique effect that master magicians cannot fathom, like kostya kimlat's for example. where they look at it and they're like fuck me hold a gun to my head and i wouldn't be able to tell you how they did it. its not supposed to be, well there's 5 ways they could have done it and i have 3 guesses on which one of those 5 ways they used.

      ***** But this is basically, what someother magicians do aswell. And I don't see as much hate tho.

  • @cordwainer60
    @cordwainer60 Před 8 lety

    In the performance for Penn & Teller, the "faked switch" was done so obviously, P&T should have been suspicious of it. They jumped to a conclusion too fast. And, to their credit, they admitted it. Penn even said he was happier being fooled, because he loved B&L's act. OK....P&T didn't consider it a dirty trick - they appreciated the cleverness. So all of you claiming it was a "dirty trick"....what is your point, exactly? That B&L somehow cheated or broke the rules? Well, no, they didn't. Nor is there now - nor has there ever been - some "rule" that magic tricks have to be exactly the same every time. The producers of the show publish the conditions publicly. P&T and Ross have discussed them on the air repeatedly. A judge meets with the performers ahead of time, knows before they go onstage how the trick is done. That it ruined the trick for you personally? So what? In what way does that make the trick "dirty" - considering it's made very, very clear there is no card switch? In the end: the audience still doesn't know how the trick was done, plus B&L are slick and entertaining enough to make even Teller bite on an obvious bait move. That it violates the spirit of the show in some way? Um....you are savvy enough to know the "Fool P&T" thing is a gimmick, right? They freely admit that. Their biggest desire is to to give good magicians a place to show off all kinds of tricks, AND bring top-quality magic to TV audiences who rarely get to see really good acts. Unfortunately, TV producers want a "hook" - and morons want a chance to ridicule anyone who fails. Well, P&T refused to make it the kind of "competition" where people are embarrassed intentionally onstage, for the amusement of sadistic idiots. But they did agree to the gimmick, and Las Vegas "prize", as a way of getting the show on the air....for the good of magic as a whole, something rather rare. They have stated flat out they WANT to be fooled - WANT to experience the same sense of wonder and enjoyment as a non-magician. That includes misdirection targeted at THEM - because in this case, they ARE part of the audience. So it's a dirty trick....why? As far as I can tell, it's a "dirty trick" only to commenters here who took the same bait as P&T - who likewise got fooled into thinking they caught the magicians making a clumsy switch.... Meaning the commenters yelling "dirty trick" are simply sore losers. While Penn & Teller aren't. That's the difference between "no class" and a class act.

    Dude. We know you didn't switch it at the end. We also know you intentionally covered the card to make it look like you did, something you don't do in other performances BECAUSE IT RUINS THE TRICK. So congrats on fooling them that way, instead of actually doing a good trick.

    • @therealteal620
      @therealteal620 Před 8 lety

      +Indecision1977 If Penn and Teller could think of a second way they did it, they would have mentioned it. Also, misdirection is what magic is all about. In the given circumstances -- that is, being on a show called "Fool Us" -- they absolutely used misdirection, and absolutely DID fool Penn and Teller. I don't understand why you people are so damn salty about this. They did a bang up job.

      No vaseline or water. Watch the beginning of the trick, when the tape is being applied. He holds the tape in place with one hand while the other is wrapping it around. The first foot or so of the tape is not sticky. So long as the rest of the tape near his mouth doesn't actually touch his face, there is nothing actually sticking to his mouth. It's just held in place by being wrapped tightly.

    "False switches/moves should have been prohibited on that show." I get what you are saying, but the producer(s)/judge knew about the false switches and encouraged them to throw Penn and Teller off. Penn said so in an interview. They are just another form of misdirection that Penn and Teller should have accounted for.

  • @Fardawg

    Great job! It was wonderful how you made it "obvious" to Penn and Teller that you switched the card with that hand gesture. I'm not a magician, but they should have known you wouldn't do something that obvious. I guessed that it was when you hit him in the head that he slipped the card in, but the false switch made me forget about it long enough to think a switch happened.
