Off Grid RV 24 Hour Battery Capacity Test W/ Work From Home Set-up!!!!
Did you place a Fuse onto the positive cable between the inverter and the battery? Some say the inverter has an internal Fuse inside of it, others would say that adding a Fuse is required .... ??? I'll be doing all this next month. How's everything working for ya? Your probably sipping margaritas in Mexico about now :)
Well done!
Thank you!
Re-wire the AC wiring of your converter directly to the shore power side of the transfer switch with it's own AC fuse. Then the converter will only charge when you're connected to shore power. No more manual switching!
Good input! I’ll need to look into that! Thank you
When you camped there can you hear the sound of the surf from your campsite?
If you get one of the rows closest, you can a little.
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr my campsite backs up to the beach parking lot. The only thing in the way is the sand dune.
Then most likely you will be able to hear the ocean.
Ah, Colorado another liberal democratic utopia shit hole.
Thanks for this very nice video and sharing
I am happy you enjoyed it. Thank you
That sucks 😕....they have no security???? Geez
They do / are supposed to as listed in the lease.
Man so sorry to hear this. I would honestly talk to a lawyer because they noticed it so long prior and didn’t notify you.
Thank you. Yes I am actively trying to find some legal support.
isnt this the storage fault?
I have my opinion on it. :/
Pray to the Lord, find strength in Him. Come to Jesus Christ, even if you have doubts, and He will set you free of them. God loves you, so much so He died for you. What is an RV to Him? Didn't He make the stars that one day became the elements that became the aluminum in that RV? Pray to Christ, seek Him and surrender in humility, and He will provide all you need.
Thank you!
Oh no, I hope in the future You can move on from this situation. 🙁
I agree! This will pass with time! Thank you!
That really crappy, Hopefully you took pictures of all the items. But like the old saying......I guess they needed it more than you.
I am very happy in the fact that I took a ton of pictures before I left. Now the fight is just getting the insurance company and facility to listen. Thank you!
Hopefully you had insurance, and check your storage unit from time to time or have a friend swing by and check it.
I do have insurance but they are trying to deny the claim. It’s been a fun time … :/ Thanks!
sorry to hear this news.
Thank you! It’s been a rough thing to deal with.
Welcome to Liberal State Colorado
Colorado has change a lot over the 30 years I’ve lived here.
Did you have storage unit insurance?
I do but the insurance is playing game claiming I don’t even though the policy calls out “storage unit” :(
I thought storage units were more secure than that. I guess I thought wrong. Do you have any notion that you were specifically targeted?
Agreed! It’s an indoor ”secure/monitored” facility. It turns out the facility knew my lock was no longer on the unit many months ago and they never tried to call or investigate. Of course their video only goes back 30 days and by the time I found out we are well past that.
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yrsounds like an inside job.
There are some horrible people out there :( So sorry to hear.
I agree. It is sad. I just hope it’s only good people moving forward! Thank you!
Inam so sorry this happened. I've known folks who have placed a Ring (or similar) camera in storage units and have them powered by the light sockets. So sorry this happened.
This is great and my recommendation to people moving forward. All you need to do is make sure you have power and wifi.
I don’t understand how these storage places take your money and don’t protect your belongings and they even fail to notice it’s even been broken into obviously.
The sad part is the police found out that the storage facility wrote down that my lock was no longer on my unit about 4 months ago prior to me coming back to find it had been raided. They never tried to contact me. It’s an indoor and “monitored” facility. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever use a storage facility again.
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr wow! 😮 I hope you can pursue legal action.
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr years ago when I was in the military, a guy in my unit had everything he and his family owned stolen out of storage. They had triplets and were waiting on housing. Horrible! You’re better off buying a shed and putting it on family property and having them monitor it.
Agreed! I am currently looking into my legal action options. I was hoping it wouldn’t have come to this.
That’s really really too bad …. So sorry you lost all that….. This will pass …. Hang in there.
Thank you!
Sorry to hear that. I’m following your footsteps & just put some more stuff in my storage unit. I own a security company so will have up a system. Def suck for you man. Hope to catch you down the road sometime.
Thank you! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone! Are you able to shed some light on how you plan to secure? Is it a camera and motion sensor? How are you getting wifi/signal to it?
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr your welcome. Sir, this will be new to me so I will be learning myself. My first idea is a cellular trailcam. Ive used them in our investigations dept and it alerts your cellphone of activity. Works on cellular and we have had it in some pretty rurasl areas here. The one we use is the Spypoint Flex. Im assuming your talking about your vehicle but can be used for storage which I def will be doing until we sell the owner a security system which will work off hardwire or cellular
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr they also have alot of hidden camera option these days. Be glad to share some with you.
Ohhh a cellular trail cam should do the ticket! Thanks for the info!
Cheer up brother! Now you get to start fresh! Best of luck with selling the RV. Link it in the video description!
Thank you. I agree, as long as I am able to get insurance to cover which has not been a promising process. Absolutely, I’ll get the link added!
What month did you camp there? Was it too windy? And what temperature did you experience day and night on average? Thanks for the video review
I’m have been there many times. December, January, and February. It is one of the best places to spend winter in my opinion. I would say the lows are typically in the 50’s but when storms come through it can still get cold. I only had one night that dipped below freezing this winter. The highs were typically in the 70’s. It can be windy, this year it wasn’t very bad. Just a couple of storms! :)
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr Thank you for the info? We are going there December and Jan
That is a great time to be there. It can be windy sometimes but last year was pretty great! Maybe I’ll see you there!
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr have two months reserved a t campsite across the beach parking lot so it will a short walk to the beach. I saw in your other video that someone robbed you sorry to hear that.
That’s going to be great! Honestly there isn’t really a bad spot in padre. It’s a great place to spend the winter! Make sure you check out comedy night at isla grand. They usually have some pretty good talent come in! It’s on Thursday nights. I did. Thank you. It has been a stressful time, but that is temporary!
Great video..my question is if my power is a bit low and I hook it up to the mains. Do I have my Victron inverter switched to on or charge only. Thanks
Hey, I don’t think I fully follow your question. If the batteries are low and you hook up to shore power to charge, the inverter should be off and run your loads on the shore power. Was that your question? Thank you!
@@KolbyAdventures-qi2yr Thanks for that. I'm new to this and couldn't contact the previous owner. Thanks again

Someone told me York is important on the spark plugs. Is that true if so / or not. How tight is good? Tia
Hey, I would say it is important. You do not want to over torque and strip the plug. I obviously didn't use one in this video but I would recommend it if you haven't worked a wrench much before!
W spot
I look forward to the repair video.
The repair video is scheduled to go live tomorrow!! It was a fun one.
Happy Birthday Maui! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Thank you Jose! I think Maui had a good time!!!
Man these guys in the comments are really giving you some flak 😂 I’ve been building battery packs since NiCad was acceptable and I think you did a solid job brother. You’ve got a mellow vibe and your video was both interesting and informative. 👍 Pay the pedantic comments no mind. You post a video on YT with so much as a cell repeater install and everyone and their brother is an EE all of a sudden😆. But I would get myself one of those heat guns from Harbor Freight or even Amazon for the heat shrink. Amz has little 350-400w versions for about $14.
Thank you for the kind comment! I am loving this setup. I truly never worry about not having power! Thank you for the tip on the heat guns!
Amazing! I hope one day to see it with my own eyes!
I truly hope you do! It is beautiful!!! Thank you Jose!
Question… with this setup are you planning to use this when boondocking? If so, it would seem that you’d be using the battery/inverter power to charge the battery. If that is the case, what is the gain of the power or difference of power used to power delivered? Seems like it would be a wash?
Hey Donny. The chargers are on a circuit that gets turned off when boondocking, so there is no endless cycle of the battery running the inverter to run the charger to charge the battery. That would kill the capacity pretty quick! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for clarifying! I do recall you talking about that breaker now too. So, when on shore power this will now charger quicker, got it
If your still in the area and want a tasty burger, go to Pals. Order a Pals burger with cheese, frenchie fries and tea. You won't be disappointed.
The pals I tried going through was only a drive through, the rv doesn’t fit, and I was being too introverted to want to walk through the drive-through 🤣 it’s on my list though. I’ve heard it’s good! Thanks for the recommendation!
Take a look at powering the start link using buck-boot converters, and anything else you can convert 12v to to power instead of using ac to dc converters
All the Starlink ones I’ve found require you to cut open the dishy. I am defiantly not wanting to get that into but I agree finding ways to run things on 12v is so much more efficient than using the inverter to 120v. Thank you for the comment!

Cool. I did the exact same thing a little over a year ago. I used a Heltec 330a (1,200a surge) BMS with a 5A active balancer. I built a 620a liftable solar array on the side of my MH to charge it. I insulated our fiberglass battery box under the steps using the same Fomular board you did. I cut a 1" hole in oner of my step risers and installed a tiny 1" computer CPU fan to blow conditioned air from inside my RV to keep this area at close to room temp, so we don't have to worry about the BMS shutting down charging due to low temperature - or their life reduced from getting too hot. Take care!
That sounds like a great install! I'm happy to hear it is treating you well. I'm loving my setup! Happy travels 🤙🏼
I looked at their website to see if there's available sites for this summer, I didn't see any😭😭😭 how far in advance do you recommend for us to book?
I booked my spot about 2 months in advanced. When my parents came down for a few days I booked their spot the same day. Just keep checking the website. There are A TON of people constantly canceling their reservations. I hope you get one! It's a great location. I Dont know I could handle the summer heat 🤣
Just did this install! I guess they changed a few things up, my kit actually came with 18MM bolts and a big U-Shaped bracket to hold the bushings instead of the hex. Thanks for the video, really helped.
Im happy the video was able to help!
Awesome video! I plan on doing some of the exact upgrades you are doing! Do you have a link to the 12v fridge you are using?
Also, do you have a video of you building your batteries? How difficult was it? I'm pretty handy but just hesitant to mess with building a battery!
The fridge was installed by the previous owner. Here is a link to it. uniqueappliances.com/en-us/products/unique-170-litre-white-12-24-dc-refrigerator-freezer?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=7a03a7d52&pr_rec_pid=8729636733211&pr_ref_pid=8729619202331&pr_seq=uniform The battery build was super simple. I have had the cells for a few years, if I were to do it today, I would probably just buy a pre-made battery. Will Prowse has a ton of good reviews and a ton of information. The main benefit to making your own battery is its size ... The price isn't as big of an advantage as it was 2+ years ago. Here is one of Wills videos showing how to make the battery. czcams.com/video/3U4ZfQ_IToI/video.html Have a great one!
Thanks. I plan on putting one in my 2017J. Doesn’t look that hard.
It is not a rough install at all!! It is a great upgrade over that factory fan I had.
Secoooond!🤪
Thank you Jose!
First!
