I am soooo glad you started this channel. I am a DIY'er also. I was quoted about $1200 for my sister locs and I have a mohawk. I decided that, because i have low density, color treated hair that I wanted to go a little larger. You inspired me to do it myself. I have carpal tunnel, so it will probably take me a month, but it's OK, it's my hair and I can do that. 😊Thank you, new subbie here.🎉
Heyyy! Welcome to my channel! I’m so glad to inspire and help anyone. I do tons of searching for help as a DIYer. Doing my best to not make too many mistakes. I have a couple Qs, do you find yourself tightening individual locs as needed or are you able to leave them alone for weeks? How after do you shampoo?
@MsKobe I just started the process this week, so my plan is to retwist as needed. I usually shampoo my hair every 2- 3 weeks, depending on how active I am. My scalp tells me when I need a shampoo. It doesn't like build up.

Thank you for this information. I get my locs started tomorrow and asked for extensions. I have considered the look of extensions but never considered the density consideration for the additional hair. I will be sure to tell her to use less hair than my own to prevent the loc size from being larger than the root.

Still have to be careful with interlocking especially on thin, low density hair. 2-3 point rotation is usually best because anything more creates too much tension at the root which can cause breakage later on down the line. Also even starting with two strand twists you can prevent them from becoming too large at the bottom as they mature with proper locksmithing during reties…

Yes the Jamaican Black Castor oil spray does leave a film. It makes my scalp white looking. Please add the extensions. Love your results.
I’ll have some time in my hands in May. I’ll be deciding on the extensions then. I’m soooo on the fence, STILL!

Thanks for the input! My focus was simply on the fact that they wear extensions. So people here should stop trying to shame people who wear extensions. Now that you have provided more info, perhaps others will feel the need to seek more info or to even verify what we have provided.

I’m researching and getting microlocs in June. I follow a channel called Microloc Mastery (founder of microlocs). She is warning of the very things you are talking about….fat ends, correct ways of installing extensions, etc.
I have seen some of her videos! Thanks for the info. I’m hoping I’m on the right path. Gonna take a closer look at her channel.

Can anyone tell me if this style of locs can be taken out after a very long period of time after you start retightening them?
Hi! Yes! Absolutely! The extensions were added to the ends of my locs, not the roots. Reties come nowhere near the extensions.

@@jesscorhill8933 Okay. Please excuse me. In my research, I found many people removing just about every type of lock installs after long periods of time. I would check around CZcams university, you may find a direct answer. At the moment, mine are easy to remove. It takes me between 5-7 minutes, maybe.

@@jesscorhill8933 I took mine down after a little over two months. I shampooed and used a detangle brush after applying conditioner. The brush that everyone is talking about on sucias media. It worked really well for me.
Try coffee spray, rice water spray, onion ginger and garlic spray, rosemary spray, fenugreek spray, or cloves spray to thicken your hair. You can try the green all individually or hell for a super potent and powerful treatment combine them all in one. If you need details let me know!

Yes I will be doing that. And my loc count is actually 568 not 550. Still working on the curly ends. Need to find a way to secure them. I did dream Locs method but I still lost a lot when I washed my hair. Any suggestions welcome

@@knottyJaGirl I lost a few too. I noticed it was the hairs that my neighbor did. She insisted on using her own tie in method.
Which method works for you to secure the curly ends?

Also, what length hair did you purchase?
I purchased 16” hair. Both bundles.
Is there huge difference in quality between the hair from the better locs and other one? Trying to go the cost effective way.
Not at all! Honey I hit the jackpot with the Amazon hair. The curl patterns are different and look really nice when blended together. Also, the curl pattern and pic from the betterlocs page can be found on AliExpress.

I totally get what you are saying. I took down mine and resized them. I now have smaller Locs and my count is 550 up from 407.
I just completed the front half. I counted about 180 but I was tired so I will count again. I anticipate installing around 450.

Thank you for the compliment! So far, the hair is holding quite well. I actually think it will go a good distance. The CZcamsr, Dreamlocs, mentioned she had been wearing her hair for 9months… I think. The beauty of adding extensions on the ends of my microtwists is the easy removal and replacement at will. When it comes to management of the extensions, all I have to do so far is shampoo and condition once every other week or so.
