Thank you so much for this video! It’s sooo very helpful. I’ve watched and rewatched many times. I have a question. Do you use mold release during mold making or casting? Do you find it adds texture to the finished casting? Thank you for your time.
omg
Awesome work and patient hands!
In the end of this video I tried different wigs for this doll, both natural and from milksilk and now I am confused which one is better 🫢 what do you think? 🧐
Gorgeous doll 😍❤️😍
Oh my goodness 🤩 Those hands seem so tiny 😅 So cute ❤
what kind of joint is that shoulder called? it looks interesting.
Дякую 😍, така гарна перука та лялька. Хочу своїй дівчинці зробити таку перуку. Можна використовувати силікон для форм (рідкий який замішують з двох частин)? Та якщо немає шерсті кози, що я можу використати замість неї? Дякую!
Do you have any recommendations for good bits for fine grit sanding with rotary tools? I never really know which ones of my bits will work the finest lol (obviously not the coarse sanding drums 😆 )
How do you usually hollow out the pieces for stringing after casting?
Olá, ficou perfeito❤,qual tecido usou?
Hello, is that a table vacuum cleaner you're using? Is it enough to avoid resin dust fyling all over as I've seen other artists using plexiglass cages to protect themselves? Good luck with your dollmaking work 🙂
Hi! As for me, the small vacuum is enough if you work very closely to the fan (but still I want to buy more professional one). It is crucial to check and change filters. I have plexiglass dome, but I decided to use good head mask instead, because this way I see better what I do:)
hi kate is it alright with you if we can have the pattern in PDF form so we can print it? i loved the way it turn out in the video
So amazing 👏
wow have you got any videos about mold making? your molds are super
Hello I love your videos. What’s the material? Which type of resin?
Hello! I had a question about molds. I intend to use mine to mold air dry clay, so I won't need to pour resin or anything in it. I was wondering if you cut a one piece mold all the way down to bottom on one side, wouldn't it essentially perform like a 2 part mold?
Hi! I never did two-part mold this way, I assume if you will cut it with enough ‘roughness’ it could work.. If you will decide to try it, please write back, I am intrigued :)
a beautiful cast! Do you have a video that goes in-depth about this process? I've always wanted to cast my own pieces!
Hi! Yes, you can find different videos about mold making, resin cast, doll assembling on my channel💜
Well I guess I vastly underestimated the time making molds and casting a bjd would take. It looks just as laborious and time consuming as sculpting the doll itself. Only much more stressful, unpredictable and more expensive since I'd have to purchase a pressure pot
Yes, it is very time consuming, but when I start getting first results (like the first assemble of a master doll) I usually became very motivated to proceed:) miniature is some sort of magic for me 🪄
Beautiful
Hello! Thank you for this video. I know it's a bit older. I am interested in making molds and I saw someone melt the clay and pour it in to the bottom of the mold box. Do you think that would work with doll parts as well or is it better to just form it the way you have done here? Thanks!
Hi! Ladoll (that I am using for sculpting) can’t be melted. I know only about monster clay that can be melted and poured, I guess it can work. But it’s used only for master model, it doesn’t last long.. as I know for the ‘final’ doll the resin is the only option (if we’re talking about silicone molds)
Hi Kate, first of all, love your videos and your dolls! Question - what is the name of that green plastic thing you use to make the mold boxes??
Hi! Thank you❤️ it is plastic fence, I bought it in garden section in the mall
I have watched all your videos, and admire your abilities, its the aesthetic that troubles me... is a plastic doll or a porcelain doll better? I think you have gone to extraordinary lengths to achieve quality, probably more than a porcelain doll, in which the pouring appears to be a much simpler task.. so perhaps it is more difficult to caste resin than porcelain? for toy-like durability...or longevity.. what are your thoughts?
Hi! Thank you❤️ well I didn’t try cast porcelain dolls, so I can’t tell you if it’s harder. When I chose resin I honestly thought it’s easier that it turned out to be:) so I definitely think that there’re pitfalls in porcelain casting also.. and it will take time to master the skills.
Hi! What paint do you use?
Hi! It’s Tamiya primer
Could you please explain how you make the cast hollow!!! I don't really get it if it goes in pressure pot for 40 min it'll be completely solid right!! Do you pour our some of the rasin after it cured a little like porcelain casting or is it the way you make the mold!! I would love to have some info in it.. If you would please 😊
Hi! If you want to make the parts hollow right after the casting, you need to make the molds with the ‘pipes’, the silicone can bend so it is possible to take the detail out. But I usually just drill the details like legs and hands. This resin can’t be casted like porcelain, this materials are very different..
Plastic were to buy the silicon mold the the thing you put in I wanna make one real ly
Hi! This is Smooth-on resin, Smooth Cast 305. It is US based brand.
How tall is the doll
Hi! It is about 30 cm (1/6 scale)
Hi, just stumbled upon your channel. I’m not a bjd maker but I sculpt digitally and your videos inspire me. Keep up the great work!
WTF
Elles sont superbes, les finitions sont soignées, tout simplement le travail d'une passionnée, tous mes compliments! 👍👋🤩
Merci beaucoup!
As an arts student I am learning how to make a bust and cast a mold but I really wanted to make a doll as well, is there any chance for you to explain how I should mold each piece for assembly? 🥲🥲 your dolls are gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
Hi! Thank you:) it’s hard to show exactly how to place each detail, because it all depends on the angles and the nuances of the doll. Each doll is different, there’re just some common rules and recommendations for making the molds. I definitely will share more ‘secrets’ in the future videos)
Looks so beautiful 🌷 love the colour tone 🌷
what is the material be you used in the first step?
It is Padico formo. But Ladoll used to be better
@@katesamostudio ohh, cool! Thank u! ☺️
Been watching for a while now and am loving how this doll has been turning out! It's such a long process, but i can see that it's definitely worth it ❤
Please tell me what product you use to tint the resin?!
Hi! Here in this video I use Marbo, but now I use only Smooth- on tints
What product did you use to colour the resin?
Would also love to know
Hi! Here I am using Marbo, ‘peach’ color , but a very small dose
This is so underrated DONT give up ❤
Do you like the Task 3 over your previous Smooth On choice? What’s the difference?
Hi! Task 3 is stronger after curing (it’s a ‘professional’ smooth-on series), but a bit translucent, and I really like that it’s curing time is ~20 min. It also differs with 305 by weight and the results after adding tints.
@@katesamostudio Thank you so much for your response. I’ve learned so much from your channel! Do you think the translucency adds to the realism or not? Also, what do you do for ventilation? Aren’t the fumes super toxic?
Do you use a release agent in the mold, before pouring the resin?
Hi! Yes, I do use Ease release
Okay! And also for one piece molds? (it seems to me that that would be a bit harder to get the Release inside the mold. Have you also considered or used baby powder as release?@@katesamostudio
I open and spray it a bit) I actually never have the problem ejecting the detail itself, only the excess material sometimes sticks to the silicone (I guess because it doesn't have the smooth surface). I afraid to use any powder or liquid release because I don't want to lose the detail surface texture..
bellissima!❤
I’m confused in how to make this. For example if I’m making a mold of my doll’s limbs like arms or legs etc. how do you make sure that it’s hollowed like this? Did you let the silicone sipped inside or did you plug the hole with plasticine? I can’t see the actual positioning of them before you pour the silicone on it.
Hi! You’re right, this is one of the way to make the mold. But for more neat result sometimes it’s better to drill the hole.
I would love a video on how you use a drill. My husband bought me a really nice Dremel but I’m so intimidated by it!
Wow, thank you for this ❤ I'd be so grateful for a drilling video!
Quick questions: the green strips you placed above the head of the doll and behind each of the hands, what is it for? And what are the lines in front of each of the fingers? Thank you for this video! ❤
Hi! The green strips are the holes for pouring the resin and the strips next to fingers are places for the air that didn’t find its way out while pouring
WOW !!! This is FANTASTIC !!! Short hair wigs are so difficult to do, you really have fairy fingers :D Great job <3
Look's awesome. What kind of glue did you use for the sueding?
Do you use a vacuum chamber and pressure pot for doll casting perhaps? How do they come out so beautifully for you without bubbles?
Hi! I use pressure pot, I wish I could use vacuum chamber also, but I have too fast cured material. But anyway, most of the time pressure pot is enough
your work is incredible - just subscribed! <3
Stunning! I love the cat coming into frame as well! :)
