You Can Draft!
United States
Registrace 19. 10. 2018
You Can Draft was born out of the need to have an easy way to help my friends and family interested in learning CAD easily and quickly. It focuses on a real-world workforce-oriented approach.
My goal here is to pass along information that gets you up to speed as quickly as possible with the most relevant topics to a majority of drafting disciplines. This means I value commonly used tools in the workplace such as dimesions and hatching over lesser used "school only" functions such as geometric constraints and surface modeling.
Although I don't have all the answers I do have quite a bit of AutoCAD knowledge accumulated over my 24 years of using the software in disciplines such as architecture, MEP, and civil/structural.

AutoCAD - Text Fields
Fields are intelligent text strings that are connected to other data in the drawing or file. They are great for keeping information dynamically updated.

great vid. i'm glad to know it's not just me. you seemed to attempt the same trial and error approach that I did.
Was great, definitely some good work arounds
You didn't teach anything, you just wasted 30 mins of my time, yet u didn't teach me how to set my workspace
you are quite confuse behaving
Thanks! Happy I found your channel. Very good at explaining
THANKK YOUUU VERY HELPFULL
This video saved me, Thank you so much it was clear and concise
Thank you !! almost saved my assignments
very nice🙂
thanks bro
Thanks for the great video. How can I have my folder in the correct order after I create the sheet set? I know I can grab and place them above or below a subset but I want them to already be in the order already.
will this work if the L shapes are at a angle facing in to create a 45connection
First comment after 4 years. Learned something new. Good job, keep it going man!
Thanks for the video. If i use "sheet list table" to create a drawing list. Is there any way to merge data from 3 columns together? On our title blocks we have Desc 1 Desc 2 Desc 3. I can get the data to come in 3 columns, EXAMPLE MIGHT LOOOK LIKE: "01-CP-110X " "DESC 1-DESC 2-DESC 3". (merge these 3 columns together so it does not form columns) Hope this makes sense.
As far as I know there is not. However there might be a workaround. Sheet set tables follow standard table formatting. What you can do is select the cells for Desc 1, Desc 2, and Desc 3 and go to the borders in the table format. Then turn off the interior borders. This will make it look like one large cell.
Thank you very much ..
tq.. aliasedit
Hey there, old video, but I tried setting SS to LAYISO (layer isolate) and it wouldn't work after following your steps.... could you see if it works on your end? Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH
My company is actually paying a guy to give us an intro on SheetSets, and I found your video while prepping for that session. Now I doubt we need that session, and I could just show the other Techs how to use SheetSets. Thank you, this was perfect for my needs!
Awesome! Glad it could help. One day I swear I'll make the videos on how to make sheet sets from scratch lol. Then you'll really have an upper hand.
very clear explanation thank you
thank you!
Thanks a lot 🙏🙏🙏
It's always the most superficial issue, the vid was clear and concise. Love the title as well. Life saver!

So can you set different templates for different categories? How can i add sheets from outside contractor to the list? Is this set up available in auto cad LT?
This helped me out a great deal but have one more huge mystery, after getting all of my lines, circles, text, hatch etc into plane Z, I have dimensions that are now NOT in plane Z and I tried going through those properties but can't figure out how to force the dimensions back into the Z plane??? Any advice there?
Unfortunately dimensions don't have Z values. Dimensions are created based on the current UCS. Most of the time this is set to the default WCS at 0,0,0, but if your UCS is set to another elevation, say 100 feet, then your dimensions will be drawn at that elevation. The only way to get them back to the 0 elevation is to manually move them.
@@youcandraft That's what I was afraid of, as many as I have it may be quicker to just dimension the 0 plane lines now that I have them all located at one level now. Thanks a LOT on the quick response!!!
Thanks for sharing. If you have the time, I'd love to see a "Best Practice" Sheet set template creation video.
I do have plans to make a series around sheet set creation but it's a lot of material to go through and I need to make sure I've covered all the prerequisite material before starting that series. I will add some more videos soon!
Thanks it helped a lot for my project thought that it was a virus of sone sort … thanks
Thanks for this video. I want to ask you this: I modeled some steel like the video but when I join all in a block I cannot edit any steel because change the steel properties from "Group" to "3D Solid". How can I do it?
@@Frankb932 Wish I could help but my specialty is with CADWorx Structure and not CADWorx Equipment or Plant.
I'm coming from SketchUp Pro 9SketchUp + layout) to Autocad, and you know - ACAD is jsut so needlessly clunky and complex. In Sketchup Layout, it was so simple to set up a set of sheets, with all the text automated, from title block information, to specification and annotation. Now I have no doubt that ACAD can do all this - but why do they make it so damn difficult? I'm fairly certain I can learn it myself - but how can I convince my Business Partner (and future employees) to also take to automation, if it's so clunky and time-consuming? Coming from Sketchup where everything was so simple and automated, to ACAD, is such a demoralising thing.
Great video. thank you
Amazing Thank you sooo much

Pls make a video about viewbox in cadwrox structure 2018

Thank you for doing these.
Thanks a ton for saving my time! Really appreciate it!!!
Hello . thank you actually i use this trick but it won,t work when i select many items the start Z and end Z or elevation won't appear again . do you have any trick to set the elevation equal to when selecting the whole plan
When you select different object types together the Properties window will not show elevation information. You need to click the drop-down list at the top of the Properties window and select each object type, 1-by-1.
@@youcandraft Than k you I select separately lines circles poly lines objects etc
You saved a lot of my time buddy, keep doing
Thank you so much for your valuable video. That helps a lot. Could you please share the "guest drawing file" so that I can have more details and learn more about it. Thank you very much again!
Thank you for this video! It helps me a lot. I hope you will create more videos about AutoCad. I'm still finding videos how to import Xcel files to Autocad, how to edit and how to create xcel tables.
Thank you for your tutorials,
thank you very much!
I haven't had a job or drafted in 3 years. The new job uses SSM. Thank you this really helped jog the ole noggin. I also noticed that your project # is 90210 lol, thats funny.
Cheers from Brazil! Your videos really helped me, thanks!
nested parameters from another Dynamic block? Example, section of a 2X4 (dynamic-2x4, 2x6, etc), over a side view of a 2x4 (DY-2x4, 2x6, etc), over another section of 2x4.......having it with a stretch param from the middle downwards to form an overall view of a section of a floor truss......i tried it and 2 things so far is not happing correctly, the stretch, the 2x4 section being locked to bottom of the side view and being able to see the visibility of the 2x4 sections......im still working on it, your plate w/ holes block is nice
Thank you so much
So I use AutoCAD light where I work and I have made a ton of custom Dynamic blocks but im running into an issue. We work with pallets at different depths, and because of this I want to make a block that I can past in my drawing, change the depth, and array it as far as I need it to. Here's my problem/goal though: I want to link an array parameter to a stretch parameter so that whatever I set the pallets depth to, 48" for example, the array parameter will instantly see that and match that depth. How would you go about this? P.S- If you need further clarification on what I am trying to explain, please let me know.
