      Anything that is even on both sides and non collapsible under load will work. Of course we train all our schools and business clients how to use cribbing as a tool and to have on hand as they would any preparedness supplies. If you have search teams in place, you should have cribbing also. That being said if one is in a situation without cribbing and they have training they can improvise with what is at hand.

    I've been watching many videos on burns recently. I've seen some videos from the UK that recommend putting a plastic film over the burns because it doesn't stick to the burn and it can still protect the burn from infection. They also say it helps reduce the pain because the burn won't be exposed to air. So my question to you is, if i have both gauze pads and a roll of plastic wrap in my kit, should i favor one over the other ? Thanks in advance !

    • @Disastersurvivalskills
      @Disastersurvivalskills Před 3 měsíci

      This is why I recommend Burn Gel Dressings in every first aid kit. Because gauze and plastic wrap will not stop the burn progression. The burn must be cooled first to stop the damage from increasing. Burn Gel Dressings stop the burning, covers the nerve endings to minimize pain and helps prevent infection and will not stick to the wound. Remember, plastic wrap off the grocery store shelf is not sterile. Hope this helps.

      @@Disastersurvivalskills Yes this helps a lot, i will get myself a bottle of burn free spray and i will also get some burn gel dressings. Also, should i use the burn free spray on 3rd degree burns as well ? thanks in advance !

    • @KrawllUnchained
      @KrawllUnchained Před 3 měsíci

      I've been doing a lot more reading and watched several more videos. Almost everything i read or watch says don't put anything on 3rd degree burns which only solidifies what you said :" anything you rubbed in will have to be scrubbed out". I was hoping maybe this didn't apply to the burn free gel or spray since you mentioned it kills any infection, this is why i thought i'd still ask but i think i have the answer i was looking for , thanks 🙂

  • @KrawllUnchained
    @KrawllUnchained Před 3 měsíci

    Thanks for this video. Now i'm the kind of person who's obsessed with being ready for anything and everything. Let's imagine a worst case scenario. What if a cyclist is hit by a large vehicle and loses part of his leg in the accident. Let's say i'm the first person on the scene, i have a first aid kit in my car but the biggest gauze i have are 4x4's, i have gauze rolls and i only have about 6 instant cold packs in my kit but nothing big enough to carry a foot. Should i even attempt to do anything about the amputation before EMS arrives on the scene or should i just inspect for other injuries or factures and ignore the amputation? Thanks in advance !

    • @KrawllUnchained
      @KrawllUnchained Před 3 měsíci

      I guess i could be a bit more specific with my question. Would it be worth it for me to wrap his leg using my own shirt or even maybe one of the fire blankets i keep in my kit. Also, would it be worth it to also wrap the severed leg segment in a fire blanket or shirt and apply the instant cold packs to it. Would that even change anything at all knowing that EMS are on their way?

    • @Disastersurvivalskills
      @Disastersurvivalskills Před 3 měsíci

      No need to worry about the body part until bleeding has been managed and under control. Without ice you still have at least an hour to transport the body part.

    Ain't no different than burn spray...lidocaine

    • @Disastersurvivalskills
      @Disastersurvivalskills Před 6 měsíci

      Not true. Lidocaine burn spray does not stop the burn progression, does not prevent infection, and some people can have an allergic reaction to Lidocaine. It's only benefit is that it kills the pain by numbing it. Burn gel covers the nerve endings protecting the burned skin from the air which causes the pain. It stops the burn progression, reduces infection risk and can be easily removed by water at the hospital if further care is needed. Burn gel can speed the healing process.

You'll be thrown safe and clear if you don't wear a seatbelt!" As a paramedic, I've heard a lot of people make claims about it being safer to not wear a seatbelt in case of an accident, but haven't in 10 years met someone thrown clear in a crash who survived without life altering injuries (usually, their injuries are life ending.) I'm sticking with ducking and covering.

      Boiling water in an emergency may not be an option. In remote areas boiling may not be an option or limited fuel for fire. You may prefer to save your fuel in both cases for food preparation. It is another option and tool in dire circumstances. Try boiling a 100 gallons of water some time to see how much time and resources is involved. You would then appreciate the Water Bottle convivence.

    Can you please help me 🙏 Hi I have 5 gallon collapsible polypropylene food grade water storage containers. And I have the Aquamira 2 part Chlorine Dioxide treatment. I'll be using city water from the tap. I have to treat it because in our area it's very contaminated. How do I treat the water prep the gallon containers the right way? I read the polypropylene breaks down and can't handle chlorine or Bleach? Can I still use these containers with this aquamira treatment? Will it poison us? Or make the containers leach chemicals? Also let's say it can be used how do I start? Wash each container soap and water rinse. Do I splash each container with Bleach? Then add the tap water then add the drops of treatment? Do i have to boil tge water first or can it go straight from the tap? Or should i just buy distilled water instead? Then treat it with drops? The goal is for long term storage for hopefully 2-3 + years if possible. Ill be doing multiple containers want to do it right. Thanks

    I just watched another video that said to wash with a saline/salt water solution and then put medical grade menuka honey on the inside of the bandage. The presenters were physical therapists, many of whom (if not all) are required to take wound treatment training. They said that medical grade menuka honey is being used now for severe burns and even deep diabetic wounds, and so far, there have been no allergic reactions to the honey or germ resistance, like with antibiotics.
