Can I buy one assembled? I would love to build one, but I can’t. I really would like one…
I have had good experience with cameras from the Lensless Camera Company. The closest model to this camera would be their Super Wide-Angle 8x10. I'm setting up a spreadsheet that I can print out and stick in my notebook. I'm using f/16, because it works with everything. In the first column is the measured time from 1 to 1/1000 of a second (in full stops). Next, I have the adjusted time based on the pinhole camera's f-stop. Then, for each film where I have a reciprocity factor, I calculate the time adjusted for failure. (I also have a threshold at which the compensation is necessary, since for FujiFilm's NEOPAN 100 ACROS II it's like 2 minutes.) It has the constants and formulas in case I need to calculate something not listed. I figure it's a good starting point and I'll see how it goes. I'm going for reciprocity failure and/or slower films, because I am not confident in my ability to open a shutter for shorter durations with any accuracy.

awesome videos so far and sorry to be late to the party - but in this discussion if I were to build a pinhole camera to use Infrared film I would want to use the a Lamda that is close to that spectrum?
For convenience I use micro drills on copper pennies epoxed to 3/8's washers and bevel both sides with another drill 3 sizes larger! I can make one in about 3 minutes! To calculate f stop devide pinhole diameter in to distance to recording plane. I then use magnets to affix the pinhole to the lens board to keep them from slipping!
This was much more useful than I thought! Very well explained math, and having a formula including object distance is great - since I already have interchangeable pinholes for my 4x5 camera so that I can optimize for close-"focus" shots.

Somewhere in between extension tubes and a bellows would be helicoid tubes. Tons of these things available in m42; just add an adapter for your particular lens mount.

If there is an optimal pinhole for a certain focal length, then there is also an optimal focal length for a certain pinhole... I have a 4x5 view camera, so variable focal lengths, and a pinhole of 0.5 mm. How do I calculate that optimal focal length... Or rather, what is my ideal focal length for landscapes? Please, please...
True, we just have to solve the equation for f (focal length). so for d = 0.5 you would get: 0.5^2 / (2.44 * 0.00055) = 186.289mm focal length assuming focusing at infinity. on 4x5 this is close to the angle of view of a normal lens, so maybe not ideal for wide angle landscape photography. Something like a 0.3mm pinhole would be a better choice. I have another video on my channel that shows the effects of blur (from pinhole too big) and diffraction (pinhole too small). It turns out that the effects of diffraction have a much less significant impact on image quality. So for any given pinhole, use the optimal focal length OR GREATER So your 0.5mm is optimal at 186mm, but can be used past that. A 0.3mm is optimal at 67mm, but even using it at 90mm (standard wide on 4x5) will give good results. For any focal length you will need to calculate the F-Stop as focal length/diameter for proper exposures. Hope this helps!

This is a great video. Thinking about doing a similar multi-focal length/multi-f/stop pinhole for my Linhof 4x5. The focal lengths I'm considering for the 4x5 are 90mm, 150mm, and 300mm. I knew math would be a thing to know but you've explained it pretty f'ing well (even if I'll have to watch it multiple times to understand it!). Thanks and hope you're good.
What where the camera settings?
Im confused about something, maybe someone could help me. In a prior video he says that the angle of view is the tang of d/t; but now in this videos says that tang is diagonal of the paper/f... Wich one is?
The angle of view produced by the camera will be tan of half the diagonal over focal length. The maximum angle of coverage of the image circle produced by a specific pinhole size is solved by using similar triangles. You need to make sure the angle of coverage (or image circle diameter) is larger than the angle of view (or the film plane diameter) Hope that clears it up.

I'm 4 years late in watching this. I've been interested in learning to push film. In this video, I wondered if the Canon was brighter because the ISO was at 25,000, while the Kodak was still essentially operating at 800 or 1000...?
Absolutely stretched my brain a bit but in the end it made sense and I'll be making a field notebook like you did in the next video! Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!

Great video. Thanks! I’m just curious about “sighting” down the camera- do you use a different technique for a subject at a shorter distance (e.g. a few feet to maybe 20 feet away) versus a subject “at infinity” (e.g. a tree on a ridge line a mile away)? For example do you use a laser pointer to determine the edges of your image for the “infinity” image? I imagine it’s much easier to define the edges of your image at shorter distances but it’s essentially guesswork at infinity given our binocular vision and the rather wide field of vision of the human eye(s) for subjects “at infinity”. Or do you just close one eye and “sight”? Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but I’m asking because I’m new to this, and while the gratification/ results are much quicker/ easier in the digital realm, in the analog world I’d hate to find out a week after returning from a trip and developing/ processing my images, to find, for example, a huge expanse of featureless sky dominating my image in the tree/ ridge line example because I didn’t compose well.

My fav is the ilford, i finally should use the 3200 thats already lying around some time ;-) I occationally had a "comparison" these days, as i first had a pushed Delta400 (to 3200, DDX 18min 20C) and then the P3200 (also DDX, 11min 20C) - and sorry ... the Kodak totally failed in my eyes ... while the D400 gave much better texture, more and nicer grey steps, and less grain !!!
The whole story of what contrast is the best depends also on the type of enlarger head used ! Color heads with mixing box give less contrast and cope well with high contrast film Optical condenser heads give more contrast and will have troubles with high contrast films The best practice is to calibrate film developpment for the best print result with a given enlarger + lens brand and normal print paper grade
I suspect it's underexposed because of reciprocity failure behaving differently with pushing.

I photographed my OM1n with my phone, sent it straight to my printer via wifi and framed it using and old piece of black mounting card in a spring clip frame. I don't think too much about what I shoot; I just shoot. It came out good.!
