I remember watching Jimmy at The Onenite , Roger Collins bar , and later with The Fabulous Thunderbird's at the original Antone's on 6th Street, they were the house band, Jimmy is a legend and Denny Freeman was another great Texas Guitar player, RIP Denny, anyway keep going, Jimmy, and you are a bad motorscooter

Listening to Jimmy, I hear really faithful technique and licks to the records he and his bro grew up listening to. Very cool treat to hear that nod to the greats in his playing. Lots of ppl compare his playing w/ Stevie or other virtuoso-kind of players, but I'm gonna say that Jimmy always does Jimmy, often forced to follow Clapton and Cray in a jam, he just commits to his crafted licks, digs in, and puts out some classic old school. A good vid for fans is the 1989 Inauguration Albert Collins / SRV / Jimmy V. First song, Frosty, Jimmy has to follow the other two, that are absolutely going for it, dressed in tux's, playing like they meant it! lol Anyways, the audience jaws are hanging open from 80,000 pristine notes Albert then Stevie just assaulted them with, and Jimmie steps out from behind Stevie, already into the first few bars of stuff he planned while he was back there sweating bullets figuring out how to possibly pull this off! And true to form, Jimmy has this arsenal of classic old school licks, with some really musical tweaks that shine. He goes the whole extended solo distance, doesn't even look at Stevie and Albert once I think, but they're smiling and nodding approval (but seemed to start to wonder if Jimmy was ever gonna come back from whatever zone he was in :)) Anyways, since you watched this vid, that's my suggestion! czcams.com/video/OkY1UQhXDhA/video.html

Used to think Jimmie’s playing was overshadowed by his brother cause SRV has more dexterity and flow… but after years of listening to them both, I think Jimmie is the pioneer and is what everything Stevie was aiming to be as a guitar player.
