    Your videos are always impactful. Although I have never been in a lot of debt I always try to pay off my credit cards in full each month. Going into debt is not a bad thing in my opinion, it's about managing it. On another note, how is your french and German coming along?

    Thank you so much. I've needed to hear this message for a long time. I think for people like me who've not been able to let go for a long time, some of us have felt shame for carrying something so long when you're supposed to have gotten over it a long time ago, and therefore you can't talk about it with anyone. I wish I could have talked about it so many years ago and that it didn't change the trajectory of my life though I'm glad that someone (you) has finally validated my trauma. Though to be honest I wish someone did so many years ago, because I've lost so much time, my life has been on pause for so long, and it's impossible to go back to live through certain important life stages. When you live with trauma so long, it can feel like you're a ghost amongst the living or someone who's sleepwalking through life, trying to come back to waking life 😢

    You cannot learn a language in 90 days with classes. Idc what anyone says. Also let me add that a class is the worst way to learn.

  • @AntUtama
    @AntUtama Před rokem

    Hello fellow language learners, I’d just like to share a word of caution with Lingoda. Firstly, I think the teachers are great and it’s a good system. That’s why it’s such a shame how their customer service operates, and especially how sneaky they are with their ‘Sprint’ programme. I am (soon to be was) an existing student on a subscription for 12 credits per month (equal to 12 classes per month). I thought the Sprint programme was a good way to speed up the learning process but also I was dangled the carrot of the possibility of getting my cash back if I completed it successfully. What a great initiative, I thought. So on 27 June, I signed up for the Sprint starting on 11 July. I worked hard and made sacrifices during the Sprint to happily say at the end of the 2 months I completed everything successfully. They take a while to get back to you on your results - but after nearly 3 months, I got an email saying ‘sorry you were in breach of the rules and therefore will not receive your refund’. Customer service said I was in breach of this rule: “The Customer shall be disqualified from the Cashback if the customer uses a Credit for a class that takes place before the Start Date”. They said that yes I had completed the number of classes required in the period but I since I had taken classes between 27 June and 11 July I breached the rules. I of course wrote back and said, I was an existing student and therefore had credits I had paid for relating to the previous period and that I didn’t use any credits relating to the sprint - and they said no, you may not use credits relating to ANY period, even if you paid for the previous month. I said, so I’m supposed to stop taking classes for 2 weeks even though I’ve paid for them? And they said yes. I argued back and fourth saying every and all existing students would be disqualified if that was the case - and they said yes that’s the case. Ridiculous. Once again I’ll say I’ve had a good experience with the teachers and I have made progress in learning German. It’s just such a shame that the company itself wants to bite the hand that feeds them from their student subscribers. In summary - I’d steer clear of Lingoda, but if you are an existing student, stay away from the Sprint programme, it’s just a means of squeezing more money out of a loyal customer.

    • @LaurnieWilson
      @LaurnieWilson Před 6 měsíci

      Totally agree! I never did a follow-up video because I was too angry at the time about their customer service, but just wanted to underscore how true all of your comment is!

    Thanks Laurnie for some very helpful reviews! I watched your reviews before and now as of mid-July 2022 I'm a week into my Spanish A1.1 Super Sprint and I'm really enjoying it but it's not without a bit of pressure. And this Super Sprint is only 60 days, easier to envision and endure than 90 days. After I signed up for the first 30 classes I downloaded 50+ lesson PDFs and started reading them. Based on the printed lessons I thought: this is too easy, I should reschedule into more advanced classes. WRONG! There's a huge difference between reading a list of words and listening and speaking in a class conducted almost entirely in a target language. Time to work harder!

    • @LaurnieWilson
      @LaurnieWilson Před 2 lety

      I'm so glad you've found my reviews helpful, and that you're enjoying the super sprint! It's definitely a great experience--at least once! And you're absolutely right--it's pretty amazing how different it is being in a class, listening to people speaking in real time. (Plus hearing all the different accents of the teacher/your classmates.) Keep up the amazing work! And feel free to let me know how you're feeling after the full 60 days!

    • @LaurnieWilson
      @LaurnieWilson Před 2 lety

      That's a great question! I think they both help in different ways. The Lingoda experience is really great if you want to get more comfortable speaking with people, listening to other French speakers/learners and getting tons of vocab. Since there isn't a speaking component in Damon's course, I actually think the two could work well together. BUT, I think that having Damon's course is good if you enjoy working on your own and want to take things at a more relaxed pace. Let me know if that helps!

    I am so grateful for your feedback. Thank you very much! I am d language trainer myself and decided to teach myself, French, highly motivated and hooked on Damon's videos as well, so purchased his Beginner - Intermediate course. The first impression, i was extremely fired up coz I really felt that it's all "insider's information" coming from Damon that no book will ever teach you. 2nd stage - disappointment. I was really disappointed coz Damon gives more of "tips" on how to sound more French. I was literally shocked by his phrase" Why would I give you content to study - you just find words you like to use a lot in your target language (French). I was like :"whaaattt")) No speaking practice and practice of Listening coming from Spotify, listening to french playlist) He explains grammar well tho, conjugations of everything and I'm just 20% through the course, so might edit my comment after finishing it but so far my honest review is : 1. It would and it kinda should work as a great compliment to books or other resources you use to study French. 2. His course is great for "Intermediate-Advanced" learners - coz all you want to do at this point is to make your language sound more "nativelike", right. 3. Don't regret I spent money on it coz it's freaking Damon and he does give a great cultural insight into language studies.

It's awesome that there are so many different options out there for us to try--some are definitely going to be better for the novelty factor, while others are going to be better for the content. In any case, I'm glad you don't regret purchasing the course and I hope you continue enjoying your journey with French!

    Great video! I was looking into doing the Lingoda sprint this summer for either Spanish or German as I didn’t get to go on two of my study abroad placements which would usually be a compulsory part of languages degrees here in the UK. I never ended up doing it in the end because of what you said about paying a big sum of money at the beginning and being a student I just didn’t have that laying around. I accepted I would have to pay some money upfront just didn’t realise how much as nobody seems to ever mention the cost just that you get your money back. I probs could have done it but was like what if I can’t attend a class and then don’t get it all back? Or what if I have to wait ages to get the money back? It sounds like it is really worth the money though.
