CIGAR'S GREATEST MOMENTS #2 1995 WOODWARD STAKES
zhlédnutí 328Před 2 lety
America's outstanding racehorse, Cigar, extended his winning streak today by capturing the historic Woodward Stakes at Belmont Park with consummate ease. He looked so impressive that there may not much suspense left in the 1995 racing season. Cigar appears headed for a victory in the Breeders' Cup, an undefeated season and a horse-of-the-year title. The Woodward Stakes is our featured race of t...
1989 Breeders Cup Classic Sunday Silence vs Easy Goer

Advancements in airline travel had an amazingly profound impact on everyday life in this country. Horse racing had its share of regional rivalries, even though West Coast and East Coast hopefuls would clash on an annual basis in the Kentucky Derby, there was never a matchup that created an intense divide between the two regions. It wasn’t until 1989 that a truly frenzied, passionate and utterly...

One Day They Will Name The Race After Cigar……. With the benefit of hindsight, we can look back on the career of two-time Horse of the Year Cigar and recognize the precise moment he transitioned from an ordinary racehorse into a nearly unbeatable Hall of Fame inductee. The year was 1994. After achieving limited success on grass, the 4-year-old Maryland-bred son of Palace Music seemed destined fo...

The 1992 Breeders’ Cup was held at Gulfstream Park, and expectations were high for the great A.P. Indy in the Classic. The son of one Triple Crown winner (Seattle Slew) and grandson of another (Secretariat), A.P. Indy had an opportunity to win a Breeders’ Cup race and also secure Horse of the Year honors. But a tough field of 14 that included 12 Grade 1 winners would make it a stiff challenge. ...

Bob Baffert’s Legend Began Here….. Going into the 1992 Breeders’ Cup, at Gulfstream Park, Baffert was an unknown to everyone but Southern California racing fans. Having branched out into thoroughbreds just a few years before, Baffert had yet to win a grade 1 race, and had just one Breeders’ Cup starter up to that point. Thirty Slews, his lone starter at the 1992 Breeders’ Cup, was 18/1, off two...

Holy Bull Says Goodbye They rolled out the red carpet, literally, for Holy Bull on Wednesday when he left his stall at Gulfstream Park, and said good-bye to the racetrack and entered the van that carried him to his new career as a stallion in Kentucky. They also marked the spot by putting up a plaque in his stall reading, in the all-America manner: "Holy Bull Slept Here." A fond farewell was pl...

A field of great jockeys!!!!!!
Strike the gold and Hansel the 1991 triple crown. Great champions
How I miss Calder race track. Sad to see it closed down. Today we only had Gulfstream park.
Looked like a paid workout.
Weird race. He came up on rail after first move, then pulled back and went to outside when it looked like he had room on inside. One of best ever, if not the best ever.
Delp really let Franklin have it after the race. Franklin had ability but no experience riding in those type of races. The other riders in the race basically set a trap for him and he took the bait. There were a lot of angry words back and forth for weeks after that race. The Bid was such a good horse. Saw him the run in his first race back after the Belmont at Delaware.
Easy Goer was one of The Great movers in This Sport...2:42 Look at That Conformation....What a Big Athletic Boy Easy Goer Was
I wish there was a similar rivalry today. Today’s horse racing has no rivalries whatsoever
Pulpit became one of the best sires and sire of sires of all time. None of the 3 horses who beat him in the KD -- Silver Charm, Captain Bodgit and Free House -- ever came close to him in that respect.
Tapit. That's all I need to say. Amazing!
I live in Vancouver, made 3 trips there , 82 ,89 and 94 . When I see the photos now , it makes me sad .
What a shame
Great sire
Good backing music 👍
The HIALEAH Meet was a big deal, if you lived up north and could make it HIALEAH in the winter you were envied. Now all we got is Gulfstream which to me is like a Puppy Mill, running all the time, all year on that synthetic track, with cheap Claimers. BRING BACK HIALEAH !
A 22yo Larry Collmus on the race call, long before becoming the voice of the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup on NBC
now you just hope no horses die at the track!!!
Even more impressive was the way Easy Goer zipped around that sharper, smaller far turn, proving he could also absolutely fly around sharper, smaller turns on smaller 8 furlong sized tracks, just like he did around wider, bigger turns on bigger 9 furlong and 12 furlong sized tracks. If sunday silence was forced to run drug-free without any drugs in all of their races, Easy Goer wins all of their races. If sunday silence's criminal doctor [Alex Harthill] didn't give sunday silence the potent, powerful performance-enhancing drugs Clenbuterol, Etorphine, Sublimaze and Furosemide [proven scientifically to enhance performance by six to nine lengths], Easy Goer wins all of their races. Easy Goer ran drug-free without any drugs in all of his career races. If all of their races were on larger tracks with circumferences bigger than 8 furlongs, Easy Goer wins all of their races. If Pat Day and McGaughey were not the rider and trainer of Easy Goer, Easy Goer wins all of their races. If Easy Goer was trained by Woody Stephens, Allen Jerkens or Charlie Whittingham, Easy Goer wins all of their races. If Easy Goer was ridden by Angel Cordero, Laffit Pincay, Jerry Bailey, Mike Smith, Gary Stevens, Pat Valenzuela or Chris McCarron, Easy Goer wins all of their races.
Great race horse
Easy Goer Was Much The Best in This Race
This Reminded Me of Easy Goer in The Wood
The Way Easy Goer Effortlessly Zipped up The Backstretch and Through The Stretch Was Absolutely Amazing...What a Powerhouse!!!!!

Shades of Ruffian ..thankfully, not as sad an ending
Snow Chief was my favorite horse during this time. Grateful these race films are available.
i read a story a few years back about carryback. it said the owner bought the mare and was taking her home in a trailer behind his pickup truck and saw a sign that said thoroghbred stallion at stud. pulled in, bred the mare and put her back in the trailer and took her home. the foal was carryback. another note carryback was shipped by boat to europe and ran in the arc de triomph. ran a respectable 6th.
I loved Holy Bull but he was inconsistent, trainer over ran him imo, I went for Cigar off his improvement on dirt
One of Pval’s greatest rides.
Mike Smith had to regret opting for Talkin man over Thunder Gulch.
HAMMER TIME!
The judge from the TV show ‘Night Court’ is the announcer/s
He was a n.y. breed also.
A.P. Indy did gain revenge against pleasant tap in the jockey club gold cup
Steroid era
Terrible announcing, sounds like the 10 o'clock news
The Bull was such a great champion....and so was Cigar!! Miss those days when horses ran deeper into a career....
Mike Smith is a great jockey
I had Cigar in this race, but I loved Bull but liked Cigar’s form since leaving grass and price
I love the old Gulfstream, the new one has no where for you to see anything on a big day & they sell-out all the seats
The best american mare EVER..and how beautiful gulf looked without atrocious synthetic..
1.10.3 was a workout for Mr. Greeley
An absolute superstar.... obscurely bred.he was super fast and could keep on trucking.... the unfortunate reality is the are fragile animals and it can happen at anytime.
You will never see this again, the great jolypha a multiple group 1 winning filly making her 1st start on dirt running 3rd in the classic lol I loved AP INDY
The track was Beautiful at that time.
It was me. Sorry. I was on the worst strike of my life and had a big DD going w/the Bull. When he pulled up, I walked out of the room and took a month off from gambling.
I prefer the Donn Handicap over the Pegasus World Cup
I love these series plz kp it up yr by yr brings back great memories
Saw him at Monmouth Park. He sure was special 😮😢
