1998 Honda VT 1100 C3 Aero Bobber walk around, start up, flyby and build pics
First customization from stock to "Yellow Taxi 44" in 1998/1999 (see slideshow after video)

Solo seat support plate: one off (water jet)
Gas cap: Crime Scene Choppers

Right fender strut bracket: modified random IKEA piece from the bottom of some drawer
Suspension: Progressive Suspension (lowered front and rear)
Risers: Aeromach adjustable dog bones (shaved and milled)

Exhaust: Hard Krome (bobbed and wrapped)
Left side tag bracket: one off (interchangeable plates with fabbed quick release system)
Air cleaner cover support: recycled air horn bracket & hockey puck
Ignition: Dynatek 2000 DK7-1

How did you get the tank to fit?
3 bolts, 3 nuts welded into the frame. The tank is a hand made one-off.... has to be to make it fit
friend I'm breaking my head thinking how you modified the factory tank I want to do the same with a slingshot saber that hurts that the full process does not come out of the tank
The tank you see is a one-off fabrication, not a modified stock tank... pics are in the slide show at the end of the video

Nice ride, the cruiser routine usually leaves me flat but yours has some real originality rather than some extra chrome doodads. Sounds excellent, too. Very nice, stay upright mate.

Love your machine! Saw it ages ago on Pinterest and now found this video. I just got myself a '97 VT 1100 C and the way you've handled the tail is inspiring. Gotta rebuild mine, as stock just ain't what that ride could be really, so I'll be checking your pics for some good ol reference here. Oh, bout that seat? Good on long distances as well? The original seat is super comfortable, but will never look good on a naked bobber type of a bike, so I'll be rebuilding that part eventually as well. Cheers!
Seat/w springs is super comfortable, especially with the Progressive Suspension set as hard as it will go

Billblackeye I was trying to sell my 650 vstar for 1800 and I was getting no bites, so I decided to bob it, seat was a 100, taillights and plate with blinkers was a 100, new flat bar and grips and levers 130, and all the labor can done yourself, and fiber glass wrap 15 bucks

I wish! No, I designed it and a buddy of mine did all the welding.
Do you remember the details of it such as thickness, composition, and what he used to weld it with?

Just looked through all my crap and found a bit of info. The steel used was 0.040" thick, the welding was done with a MIG. After, smoothing out of the fuel sight bung welds and mounting tab welds etc.. was done by brazing. Finished off with a tank sealer, I used Restom cuz it's local but there's a bunch of tried and true tank sealers out there. That's about all I got man :-)
this is gorgeous. how'd you take the rear shock casings off? Trying to figure out how to strip them off for the exposed look. thanks!
Thanks. I didn't take the rear shock casings off, I swapped the stock shocks for shorter shocks by Progressive Suspension, lowering the rear and making the ride firmer. www.progressivesuspension.com/product/1408/412-series-shocksIf you have an aero with an original rear fender and you go with shorter shocks like I did you're gonna need to relocate your rear brake caliper to the under side of the disc... otherwise you'll ram it into the lip of your fender first big bump.Cheers!
This is the first video of of maybe a100 , ive watched where the vt1100 sounded so good , no matter what pipe it had on it .Is there some reason why the older 1990 s model would sound different than the 2000 models ? Your bike looks and sounds fantastic . The pump in my fish tank sounds better than my factory piped 2000 vt1100 .
+Cheef Cherokee Thanks Cheef! I know they switched from a single pin engin to a double pin engin around 2001 on the 1100 Aeros... not sure if that would make a difference or not though. A lot of guys run them withought baffles (I used to) and that's where that crappy hollow metallic"blub-blub" sound comes from (not to mention performance loss).
The single pin Aeros ('98-'00) had (and have) a great stock exhaust sound. The shift to double pin (thanks in part to the Harley litigation) in '01 screwed that all up. They sound like sewing machines, comparatively. I sourced a '98.
hi, im looking a 87 1100 just wandering about high way speeds and how she handles in general? i have a 600 vlx and love it but never rode a 1100 before

I ended up picking up a '95 1100 ACE. It needs some work done before it'll run right. It has that spitting and popping going on, along with a big loss of power. Any idea what that might be off hand?
RideThroughLife Could be a carb problem. Mine was doing that last year.... I got rid of the spitting and popping by rejetting, the power loss was from one of the rubber carb boot membranes. Mine wasn't seated properly and it stayed sucked down in the closed position, the bike was utterly running on one cylinder. Check the membranes to make sure there are no holes or small tears and replace if necessary. I'm assuming the Ace also has 2 carbs but it may not be the case.... does sound like a carb problem all the same.
***** Thanks. That gives me some direction. It feels like it's just running on one cylinder some of the time. I'll check the diaphragms and clean the carbs out. I think the bike sat for a while before I had it.

and also how did you get those spoked rims on the bike? i got a 93 vt 1100 and wanna build a bobber soon but im having some troubles finding spoked rims for my bike
Thanks man! The spoke rims are stock on the 1998 - 2002 1100 Aeros, as for tank volume, it only holds about 8L, due to the backbone of the bike actually being the air tunnel from the filter to the motor. The giant size of the tank tunnel to make it fit ate away gas volume. Thought about a Frisco style tank which would have fixed the volume problem but the lines of the bike were all off and it looked like ass. I can get around 120kms to the tank but I usually pull into a gas station as soon as I pass 100kms... and I've got that reserve bottle on the frame just in case! Cheers!!
***** I saw this bike on tumblr, and I was wondering what the bottle was for. Very amazing bike. Do you know off hand if the Aero has a different fork rake than the other models? It looks like it might, but looks can be deceiving.
ridethroughlife It wasn't tumblr, it was just a random search that lead me to your BikerMetric write-up. Sweet bike. I have a plan for mine that will hopefully end up something like this.
ridethroughlife So a quick check on Google and I came up with °32.25 rake on the C3 Aero and °32.4 rake on the 1100 Sabre. Then again another site had them both listed at °32.4 so I can't be sure. Couldn't find any rake specs for the C2 Ace though....
ridethroughlife Good luck (Japanese engineers are crazy complicated) and have fun doing it! I'm currently working on a '59 Panhead and after the Honda project, working and the Harley seems sooooo simple, so straight forward, acessible, logical etc.. etc... ;-)
