Bringing a 2003 Honda Civic SI EP3 Back to Life ep. 4 (K24?!)
Episode 4 of attempting to get the Honda Civic SI EP3 back on the roads after 5 years of sitting. We cover the bent upper control arm and do our backyard sketchiness to try and "straighten" the bent parts to eliminate the toe issues. Then we get to watch my craftsman skills get put to the test while I attempt to cut a basic wood design for the rear hatch. And we finish with the best surprise of the video, for what the Civic has to look forward to in the future (boost?!?!)...

Just purchased a 2003 Honda Civic SI EP3 that has been sitting for approximately 5 years. I received a lot of negative feedback on social media about wasting my time trying to bring it back to life and thought I should document my journey of bringing the Civic back to life! Quick run down and overview of getting the EP3 cleaned up, starting it up for the first time, and my plans moving forward....

Watch the link I shared . Tells you what you need from your motor . These guys do a lot of swaps on a budget .

I’ve been working on my 2002 EP3 and your videos are just encouraging to watch. Planning on doing the control arms and tie rods in the front soon! Looking forward to the next episode.
It also looks like you have some holes for what would be handles , to move the boat around and such , you really going to want those as they help support the 2x6
I just did mine with a 2x6 and a peice of plywood on the back ! Your back peice of aluminum on the transom is very thin just like mine and now mine is very stiff and solid . And you can use bolts and washers for everything i used 4 3 inch 3/8 size nuts and bolts for the plywood
Right on! How did you seal it up?
@@DougGoneWild use marine silicone around all the nuts and bolts , i shaped my peice of plywood on the back into a trapezoid to disburse the weight a little better , im running a 15hp , and it does 37kmph , with the 2x6 , the aluminum thats there and the plywood the motor will just fit .
Hey man have you found the issue yet? Mine is doing the same thing.
Still no luck! Please let me know if you find out what the problem is with your truck.
@@DougGoneWild ok same to you.
Thanks though
Thanks, wanted to be sure I didn't need to take off that lower pocket
Were you having trouble with the lock when the door was open or closed? If the door is open you have to pull the handle to lock the door just FYI incase you didn't know
The door lock would not engage at all whether it was closed or open. In this case the door was stuck shut in the locked position. It would not unlock with the key or a fob.
Watching these videos gave me the courage to pursue fixing something on my own honda civic. It took the fear out of seeing parts of pieces of the car. I love this series, how it's edited and how you talk us through your decisions and what you do. Amazing job!
Whoever had their hands on this before, shame on them... The EP3 is such a good car, mine's an absolute joy to drive Edit: I noticed the Oregon license plate, what part of Oregon are you from? I live near the Portland area, closer to Clackamas.
Well hello almost-neighbor I'm in Canby! haha but yeah it sickens to me see how some people take care of their belongings.
@@DougGoneWild Oh! I drive through Canby all the time to get to my friends place in Yoder. The road construction on 99 is awful...
@@vapour_xs9235 oh for sure, luckily it's almost over. What color is your EP3? I'll be on the lookout for you.
@@DougGoneWild it’s silver with a white Type R spoiler, running on bronze Konig Lockout’s.
This is one of my dream cars and I can't wait to get one. Awesome little cars.
Can’t wait to see it complete! My son and I are about to do the same for his first car
What a great bonding and learning experience! Are you doing it on a ep3?
@@DougGoneWild he likes the emi 1’s so we will see what we can find on FB market. He turns 15 next month so we should have a year to build it up
Let’s gooo Doug!!! Already coming together hella nice man!! I need to install brakes on mine so i can’t wait to that segment of the build!
For sure bro! I can't stop looking at parts, I'm addicted lmao
Great job man cleaned up good! Im starting some EP3 content on my channel also. new sub here excited to see more

so glad to see you bring this back to life. I own a 2003 rsx type s (owned a 2003 rsx base before) and ep3’s were always a favorite of mine. hopefully she treats you well after!
Would make a good camp for a houseless neighbor, probably the best it’ll amount to as well
Doug finna get wild on this build let’s fucking goooo!!! I have 2004 ep3 always good to see anyone down to make content for this platform!
for sure bro! seem like damn good cars!

Turn up your sound, I am sorry I recorded it very low :(

Hi Doug, I'd strongly recommend a new carpet from OC Auto Carpets. I bought a red one last year and while it was challenging to trim it and make it fit right, it was well worth the effort afterwards.
I’ve actually bought from them before when I replaced it in my 84 Toyota extended cab! Very happy with quality of their carpets but yes they do require a little extra trimming. I went ahead and ran a carpet extractor for a couple hours over the existing and for right now, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’ll show it up close in the next video.
Strange find...interesting
I had a 2005 and put those all red taillights on mine. bought it with 114k miles and sold it at 256k miles almost 10 years later.. Best little car I've had. My steering wheel was peeling in the same spot
That's great to hear! I've read you either love them or hate them but it seems like I've been running across more people lately that have regretted selling theirs.
@@DougGoneWild I would have loved to keep it but at the time wouldn't have had somewhere to park it or the time to work on it. Mine was all stock except for the AEM intake that the original owner put in it.. All I ever did with it was oil changes and brakes and it ran great.. I wanted to push it to 300k but I once bumped a guys car and then it would lag a little out of first, and another time I drove over a small median in a parking lot when turning the wrong way to find a spot and I damaged something and could no longer get it passed 65 mph and it was starting to show other small signs of oil starting to leak so it was time to let it go and get something new.. It shifted great tho, a lot smoother than the new GTI i bought to replace it. My 2005 had a lil more with the body kit and spoiler than yours but I always wanted to get the Type R oem kit you would see in europe
W video
I saw your post on the FB group, best of luck!
The cmc on my 03 accord was a little annoying to change. The ep3 has a lot more room to work with
I wonder why😂😂

How does the tiller work? I just found one on Facebook marketplace and I really want it lol
It's belt driven and has a manual lever on the back that you pull to put tension on the belt which in return spins it. This model is the John Deere 31 tiller and there is actually good manuals on the JD website with all of the information. If you type 31 in here: techpubs.deere.com/en-US/Search/Equipment you will be able to download them for free
@@DougGoneWild awesome man I appreciate it
wasnt til i saw a couple of these vids that i finally realized another reason mine looked weird i need an emblem on the grill i also gotta figure out how to flip the brake pedals back to the original configuration someone must have been a left footed driver at some point and flipped them to the left side
It removed everything from my side. WTFFFF
Made by Echo. I was never a fan of their equipment. I'll take a "358" Poulan made product any day over it.
2017 350 with 97k miles on it. Same thing. I have an extended warranty on the truck. Took it in and replaced the turbo which had an oil leak according to the mechanic. Got the truck back and on our first camping trip it did it again and much louder. I immediately turned off the engine break so i wouldnt damage the new turbo. In my opinion(and im not a mechanic) the turbo ticking noise a symptom and not the root cause but the dealer is stumped. I will now change the crank case oil filter separator myself and see if excess crankase pressure is the culprit. However, the dealer stated I have less than 1psi of pressure when measured at the oil fill cap at idle which is why ford wont cover the replacement under warranty. Additionally i was told to break in the new turbo.....which is nonsense to me since the noise is worse now. But hey maybe they really mean "break it and bring it back in" haha.
I am having this same issue and I am stumped. 165,000 miles and it just came out of nowhere. If you could please update if the separator change works.
Changed the separator and took the trailer out for a test drive. It did not help, next week the tech and his computer will come on a ride along with me and the trailer. It only does this under load, I'll keep you all posted.
@@ivannmorales Thank you very much for the update. Please let us know. I went ahead and did a CCV delete. It's the only mod I have done to the truck and it did not help the noise.
Thank you for the update. Unfortunately starting to think my issue is a failed or failing turbo. As mine has now started to make the screech under boost regardless of exhaust brake on or off. So I might be looking into a turbo rebuild kit.
@@Crooked_Mouth oh man that's not good. Please let us know when you rebuild it if the problem was resolved.
Thank you. Finally eliminated the promoted. Fantastic
Thanks for sharing. I am on day 3 of treatment and other than the strange taste in my mouth no side effects. The day I started it, I was miserable with Covid - fever chills headache. Within 24 hours of the paxlovid the fever is mostly gone and I feel way better.

Do you use a brush or anything to add the wrinkle cream? And do you use all of those products just to take preventative measures or did you find out he has skin issues? New Frenchie parent here and just looking for the best products!
Yes he has skin issues and allergies which is quite common for frenchies. All of these are more for preventative measures but they’ve made a HUGE difference. I just apply it with my fingers but you could always use a q tip :)
It works Ik you have it on the inter tube, you just need to like 3x3 square for like a 1in cut

Ya know I like this old school stuff I had a toaster from the 80s and the toast had squiggly lines on the toast as you turned the knob there were more squiggly lines I figure it indicated darker toast back than you didn’t have to be retarded to figure it out Evan geniuses knew but now they got toasters with tv’s on them to help you see just how toasty your toast will be. But no matter how many gadgets you put on a toaster no matter how intelligent your toaster is all you really need it for is to toast bread
My 17 does this too, but only when 30-40psi of manifold pressure. If the EB is on and it’s in high rpm and has around 60psi, it doesn’t make the noise. I was told by a couple people it’s a broken manifold stud but I don’t think it is because all the ones I’ve seen with broken studs do it all the time, especially under acceleration. I’m lost😅
Same here man! Please let me know if you figure it out.
I've been hearing this comment too. But I only get this issue when I turn on the EB function. At no other time will it do it with or without a trailer on flat, down, or up hill.
Thanks bro
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Hi Have you figured out this issue yet? I have the same thing happening
Nope, it still makes the noise. Please let me know if you figure it out
Did you figure anything out with this? My truck is making the exact same noise. It is a 2017 f350. It just turned 130,000 miles on it.
No man it still does it. If I'm deaccelerating down a hill and it drops a gear it will do it also without the exhaust brake. Please let me know if you find out what is causing this as I am still very interested in finding out what is causing this.
Great video, very helpful in installing.
